Still nothing to explain why the gold price is holding at the price it is. But the year isn't over. A year ago it was £974 an ounce, £1029 last Friday, which was also it's recent high. Ten years back it was ££600, and five years back it was £744..._

Golds price rise I believe has an explanation. The fx rates. Why I didn't check such an obvious source for the answer I can only put down to basic dyor schoolboy sloppiness.

At the time of the September 2011 sterling high of £1180, the USD price was $1890. Today at £1100 the USD price is $1410. In February 2011 when gold was at $1410, the sterling price was down at £873.

Of more importance to everyone else here who has funds in the US is the USD/GBP fx rates. Five years ago sterling got $USD 1.70, a year ago it was buying $USD 1.30, and today It gets you $USD 1.25. No wonder Trump is strong arming the 'independent' NY Fed to lower rates with elections next year.

If US rates get closer to GBP then I suspect the current sterling price of gold in UK to drop back..._

Not sure what to think about this month's performance. Around 2% was down to currency movements. It makes me a bit reluctant to add more contributions to US stocks especially. Looks like its UK mid/small caps for next months.

Nice hike this month courtesy of the pound heading south, probably more to come.

    Cracking return for DiggerUK

Contemplating dropping India, as Trump has directed his wrecking ball in that direction and its not pulling it’s weight.
