F0xh0les, this may or may not be useful to you..re the skimming of your ceiling....I thought our walls and ceiling were so bad we were going to have to do this but I really really didn't want to spend the money.
I obviously don't know how bad your ceiling is but I can recommend 'everbuild fill & skim' if it's something you can do yourself? I used the polycell one years ago and didn't get on with it but thought it would be worth a try with all the work that needed doing, this one seemed to work well. I watered it down with a pint of water (added a little bit at a time until I got a consistency that worked for me) and scraped it onto the walls and ceilinh..it's worked really well. I did have to skim, think I got it all, sand back and spot more problems the next day, 'skim' again, same the next day until I got everything covered so it did take about 4 days. I was pleased to start painting after that. I'v even been able to recreate corners on walls that had been knocked off or rounded when they should be square.
If that's not your thing, we've just used wall rock thermal liner in the cold hallway, the walls were in quite a state and I wanted them thermal lined anyway....it is expensive but not as disruptive and messy as getting plasterers in. It's not an easy task but I haven't wallpapered for 20 years (i did my bedroom when I was 14) and was able to do it whilst 7 months pregnant by being patient and taking my time. The thermal liner stuff is 3mm thick and completely removed all the wall defects for us, I'm pretty sure it's ok for ceilings too.....on the non external (and not too bad condition walls) I have just used regular wallrock 'smooth' lining paper get a matched finish to the thermal lined walls and put it over the thermal lining also....though this is recommended I'm not sure it's strictly necessary.

It has been a lengthy pain to do all of this, but I would choose it over skimming if I had to chose again and the walls wernt completely knackered.

The thermal.lining of the hallway walls may be a bit OTT but my 'nesting' has gone into overdrive and although external wall insulation keeps the house warm, the lining has given me proper nice warm homely walls with no defects also.

....I won't lie though, it was tough going. I'm not aware of any health conditions or injuries that may make this impossible for you to do. But if it is possible, I thought the above may be useful

Today I am grateful for another mild day, for the dentist fitting me in to stick my tooth back in place, for my washing machine, for dd's ankle improving - she twisted it a few days ago, for dh insulating and cleaning some of the front windows, for yummy chicken korma for tea, for a good book to read, for getting some reindeer and gingerbread men cut out ready to sew up tomorrow, for chatting with another mum, for 85% chocolate.

    Hi all :j

another NSD 8/15 need to get plenty in as next week away with DD...no NSDs there!

Organise: Little bit of organising down cellar - now starting to empty (non-working) freezer that was left down there - presume they couldn't get the thing out - now used for storage. Chucked a few tins & packets that are no good. Seem to have a massive stash of jars of MnS Christmas Cake curd...hmm

Lunch: Aha eggs of course what else. Scrambled eggs on a bagel slim, was very nice. DH ate leftovers from yesterday. DD had scrambled eggs plus sausage...

Supper Nacho feast as had a small amount of chilli left. Added another tin of beans & it did the 2 of us. Sadly forgot the jalpenos till after we'd eaten it

    Food budget: £191.96/250

Be kind: Still laughing about the eggs but hopefully in a kindly way.. actually we had 77 eggs as already had 5 in..

One more time: Stuck mainly to plan

Extra Income: More bids on my items, must make sure to pack them up before I go away on Monday..

    Christmas: Nothing today

    Exercise: Not as such

    Heating: still off

Grateful for: Not having to get up early tomorrow, invite to see relatives next week after we come back, friends ancient video tape - 22 yrs old - playing on our converter machine & therefore can make her a dvd of her husband & FIL (decd) which she wants to give to her DH as a gift..

Mothernerd Glad to hear you are feeling better - yes DD is a hive of activity on her days off...she tries to cram in as much as possible...

    Hi all:wave:

    Just checking in.

I am hoping today is NSD # 10, unless my folks have something planned.

I have been given a torch at work which goes on my keys which Im going to count as winter prep. Big candle lover so I always have those in. Picked my boys some microwavable teddies earlier in the year and so pleased I did.

MOTHERNERD- So now I am pretty much done for xmas, I am doing my brothers shopping- does this count if I spend money he will immediately give me back? I can tie it in with my spend days otherwise :o

I haven't done much in the way of excersize while hubs been away but I will do when i have a sitter. Considering getting an excersize bike but its where Id put it which is the issue.

I am really enjoying this challenge. I still have plenty of cash in the budget which I think is down to not wasting a few quid here & there.

Today I am greatful for- a good night sleep :j , for warming porridge, for a safe reliable car (last winter my car was in a bad way , blowers didn't work ) and for the lady in the shop who fixed my boys torch for him :o
  • Mothernerd try not to b so hard on urself. I think u do an amazing job. Running this challenge and motivating us all alongside all ur other jobs.

I got an unexpected nsd yesterday so now at 7/15. DH bought a naughty take away last night out of his personal spends which was nice. I've bought him a take away coffee today. Other than that I just want to book a few Christmas activities today.
