I was apprehensive about starting my new job but 9 months down the line it's all tickety boo :) Change is always unsettling.

Anyway - take care HH xx

  • HH you are not a wuss!!
There is much going on in your life at the moment and it’s bound to be unsettling!!

I have come to the realisation that I am having a small “empty nest” wobble.. both DS’s are busy, out a lot or in DS1’s case with his GF at her families home.. I sat and had a good wail yesterday when I could finally work out what had been unsettling me for weeks now.
I’m not sure how to put myself first (of sorts) the free time, I can go out to the cinema etc.. yet it just feels odd.. No one in for tea every night.. :o
Still, they do msg me regularly and always tell me they love me (as I do them) so I know everything’s ok.. it’s just another change.. things will settle.
I also think the whole world is unsettled one way or another at the moment.. Oh for simplicity..
Sending hugs your way & have a great time when you start your job, all will be well! :)

Thanks Madam Mim :). I can understand your empty nest wobbles. I'm feeling that too because I miss DS3 so much now he's back at uni. It was nice having him home at Christmas and then upsetting when he went back :(. Although I do want him to be at uni. And DS2 hardly ever comes out of his room and he's going abroad for a month soon (and he'll be away on my birthday :().

We love our children so much that we're bound to miss them when they become more independent and need us less. It's natural to feel this way but it doesn't always make the emotions easier to cope with. I hope we both feel better soon. All we can do is make a new normal and we'll get used to it eventually.

My new job will be a welcome distraction from missing my mum and DS3, but I'm a bit nervous now it's so imminent. So lots of wobbly feelings for me at the moment :o.

I expect I'll feel better tomorrow. I'm having a wobbly day. I hope you feel better soon too.

  • At least you know the building HHOD, so you know where they key things are. All the new contracts I do, you wouldn't believe how many places don't tell you where the toilets are, or (perhaps more importantly) where I can get a coffee.

Have you got your right to work documents sorted for Monday? Have you got to do a new DBS check too? We 'buddy' our new starters until that is through, which means they are not on their own for their first couple of weeks.

I get the unsettled thing too, part of the winter gloom for me. Always brighten up a bit once the days get longer.

Thanks Redo :). I'm not sure what do you mean by right to work documents? Sorry if I'm being dense :o. Do you mean my passport and national insurance number?

I've been given a new starter form to fill in. I've filled in as much as I can (like my national insurance number, next of kin, bank details, etc), but the school office people need to fill in some bits (like my grade, salary, etc), as I'm not certain of that info.

I've also been given a job description sheet. They're going to sort out my staff id on Monday, so I said I'd take in some recent passport photos to save them having to take a photo. I thought I would take in my passport as proof of identity, just in case they needed it, although they didn't suggest that. Should I take a recent utility bill too?

My DBS certificate should be okay I think, as I needed an enhanced one to start my volunteering in the first place. They didn't mention anything about needing to have a new DBS check anyway.

Should I take in my latest self assessment tax form do you think? Or write down my personal tax reference number to tell them?

You're right that I know the layout of the building, including where the toilets and staffroom are. I also know several of the staff. So that will help me to settle in more quickly :).
