Cash in hand / JSA & HB

I have been signing on for a while and claiming housing benefit, but now I have found a job.

The thing is it's cash in hand and I don't know what I'm supposed to tell the job centre and the council.

Is there a particular procedure for this?

What do you mean by cash in hand, are you self employed, paying your own tax etc, or are you intending on hiding your income from the tax man?

    OP

Are you Polish, Bulgarian or Romanian.

If you are DWP and HMRC won't bother you.

And if you are doing cash in hand why tell people about it?

If they're paying the tax etc before paying you and you're getting a payslip then inform the benefits agencies in the usual way.
If they are doing neither of the above then they are likely to be acting fraudulently and you're setting yourself up to get into strife. Your choice.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Some people are paid cash but their employer pays tax and NI.

They pay cash but it's up to the employee to do their own taxes. I don't need to sign on any more because of this job. I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to say to the council (for housing benefit) or the job centre.

Rare these days but as you say still around.

I'd like to know where all these cash in hand jobs are.

    I'd like one.

You tell the JC you've got a job and inform Housing benefit you're working and how much you're earning. You'll need to show proof of your wages for HB purposes.

Sure I can do that but I won't have any payslips.

You'll need to show proof of your earnings somehow because of your hb claim. Which ever way you look at it you'll need to inform them of these changes.
