I recently re cycled iphone 6 64gb after approx 30+ months.

    ‘Upgraded’ to SE 32gb.

Was never going to be an iphone X early adoptor due to cost.

Think I’ll re visit 8 or X approx 2-3 years.

All credit to O2 for their recycle scheme and service.

i'm not overly impressed with the screen size/resolution - i have a second hand nexus 6 which now typically costs 150 pounds second hand and is 6 inches at 2560x1440 but this "flagship" iphone is only 5.8 inches at 2436x1125 and almost 7x the cost - it feels like apple are selling 3 year old tech at a premium price as its an apple
  • I like the X and am considering getting it.

Someone is interested in buying my iPhone 6 + for £180 which would take the X cost down to very close to the iPhone 8+ 64gb. (£799) it is currently worth £142 on o2 recycle.

I popped in to the apple store the other day to look at both iPhone 8's and the glass back is lovely however once in a case it would look just like my current iPhone 6+.

I've never broken a phone screen yet and have used smartphones for years. Nokia to Blackberry to Android to Apple.

The current 6 plus is a tad too big and the smaller version is too small for me. The X is between the two size wise which to me is ideal. I also like the lack of home button and more gesture based UI having used Nokia N9 and Jolla in the past.

i went to school a long time ago but i don't think maths has changed that much. you are still paying a grand for the x

Sent you some new batteries for your calculator..

OP sells current phone for £180.

OP pays a £250 deposit for the iPhone X.

IPhone X a bargain at only £570. Does that help?

The trick is not to add up all the payments, hence making the item cheaper :)

I do the same when buying gadgets with accessories, missus asks how much that was and it was £500 even though with all the accessories i actually spent £1000.

    Thanks for the input.

There is nothing in the Samsung S8 or the android world that makes me want to move over. They make great hardware and android is great software but Apple make great hardware and has great software and there is no vast divide between them.

I switched to the iPhone in 2009 after my Nokia E71 had 2 faults and was blown away with IOS. Every year since 2009 the phones have been getting better and better to point that I personally feel the iPhone X will cater for all my needs in photography and computer use.

I don't look solely for the best specs in computer devices. If I did that I would be buying the latest tech thing every 6 months (I have had 3 iPhones in 8 years). If I wanted the best specs in a camera I would be buying a DSLR and expensive lenses that would cost 5 times as much as the iPhone X.

Yes there is no getting away from it that its an expensive phone but value is not based solely on the cheapest or cheaper price. Value can mean the experience, usefulness and importance of something to you. If money was always the driving factor in peoples decision making then everyone would be using a £150 phone or less and Apple would not be making phones and Samsung would never make flagship phones in the S or Note phones (The same would go for clothing, cars, houses, food and drink).

That great hardware that Apple make, would that be the screen made by Samsung? Or the batteries made by Samsung? Or the parts made by LG? etc etc.

You do realise that no single company in the world manufacture all the components that go into their products.

What makes great hardware is a combination of some or all of the following, design, materials, components choices, manufacturing processes and success in the market place.

  • Can we recycle this thread and use X to mean any new iPhone device?

  • Blimey £1000 for a PHONE !!
    The worlds gone mad.............
While I personally wouldn't spend £1 on any Apple product, let alone £1000, calling it a "phone" is somewhat disingenuous.

Like all current mobile handsets, it's really an all-purpose handheld computer, with built-in wifi, camera(s), GPS, Bluetooth, etc, etc.

In fact, I suspect that most smartphones spend a relatively tiny amount of their lives making telephone calls.

Having had bad call quality on the iPhone 6 (Google told me I wasn't the only one), no I wouldn't spend £1000 on another iPhone, even though apart from calls, I found the iPhone 6 a nice device.

For the 10, I'd need to have it on a few weeks free trial before even considering it.
