The non existent queues to buy it this morning said it all

Those non-existent queues were for the iPhone 8. The iPhone X won't be available for another month or so. Please report on the queues again when on topic.

Apparently £1,000 gets you an iPhone X ... or 1,440 cans of Tennent's lager. :D

Can’t see it doing much at that price. A sony or Samsung android phone is better anyway.

    I'd rather have the lager.

The last sentence, maybe, but the rest is on the button.

I understand why people buy into the Apple infrastructure and would never say that they don't provide for their market and they have a good product. However, it's been a while since they offered any innovation.
If you really want to be a one device user then the Galaxy S8 or Note 8 combined with the Dex station, gives it you all.
All that said. Flagship phones have just gone bananas price wise.
A phone that sells for twice the price of a good computer and sells, probably, ten times (plus) the units, has to be ripping someone off.
I have a Galaxy S8, £779 at launch, I didn't pay retail for it so bought it and sold a Galaxy S6, this brought it into the realms of an OK expense for a phone to last a couple of years.
My Wife has a Moto G4 and rarely finds anything that can't be done. Paying £1000 for an iPhone, quite frankly, is madness. Especially as in a few months time it will be going for a lot less than that.

    Thanks for the input.

There is nothing in the Samsung S8 or the android world that makes me want to move over. They make great hardware and android is great software but Apple make great hardware and has great software and there is no vast divide between them.

I switched to the iPhone in 2009 after my Nokia E71 had 2 faults and was blown away with IOS. Every year since 2009 the phones have been getting better and better to point that I personally feel the iPhone X will cater for all my needs in photography and computer use.

I don't look solely for the best specs in computer devices. If I did that I would be buying the latest tech thing every 6 months (I have had 3 iPhones in 8 years). If I wanted the best specs in a camera I would be buying a DSLR and expensive lenses that would cost 5 times as much as the iPhone X.

Yes there is no getting away from it that its an expensive phone but value is not based solely on the cheapest or cheaper price. Value can mean the experience, usefulness and importance of something to you. If money was always the driving factor in peoples decision making then everyone would be using a £150 phone or less and Apple would not be making phones and Samsung would never make flagship phones in the S or Note phones (The same would go for clothing, cars, houses, food and drink).

  • I'm sticking with my android phone.. Phone is way to expensive for me!
  • Work has given me an iPhone and I'm also allowed to use it for personal use. I hate it though so I go back to my android for non work stuff. I certainly wouldn't pay my own money for an iPhone at any price and I'm staggered at the cost of the latest one.
  • Well looks good, Rumours I read online may cost £1000 so anyone going to get one?

Nope! No way am I getting one. I have an Apple laptop, but wouldn't touch any of their phones. They are all far to expensive.

I've seen a lot of people drop their smartphones and break the screens. And I've heard of people getting mugged for their phones. So I bought the cheapest smartphone I could find, planning to lower the economic hardship that I would suffer if I broke or lost the phone or had it stolen.

(Basically, I became my own underwriter, doubling the price of the phone and treating the extra price the cost of my self-insurance policy.)

(The phone I got was a Samsung Galaxy SIII mini. It's got cameras on the front and the back and can act as a mobile router, if I want to go online on the move. That allows me to go to hotels that don't have free wifi and use my own Internet there.)

I paid £100.00 for my smartphone and would be able to replace it 8 times and still have paid less than a single iPhone X. If I bought into the iPhone X and had to replace it, I would be forking out £2,000. That's a lifestyle I just can't afford.

Maybe my £100 smartphone can't do everything that the iPhone X can do, but I'm sure I could buy other devices that do the rest for less than £900.

  • the point is you can get a lot better phone for half the price (samsung s8 plus, some of the top end chinese phones even cheaper). i don't get the apple connectivity excuse as i have no issues with android, pc and tv talking to each other.

Apple is already building the most expensive building in the US and sitting on the biggest corporate cash mountain. how much longer are their customers going to allow them to rip them off?

If it was the redmi note 4, I bought one and its absolutely superb.

I am never paying a 300% markup again for a phone!!

Its no word of a lie the best phone ive ever had, and the battery lasts 2 days!!

    I got the 5" Redmi 4x (not Note) £102 minus £7 TCB. :D:)
    Battery life is amazing.
At a squeeze with my usage I could probably get 3 days, but 2 days easily.
    Battery 4100mAh.
    Move along, nothing to see.
