    Ooops! It was nicely laid out on the original :p

    The key ring I found for 99p somewhere & it has a little torch, compass & personal alarm --hence the descriptions--& it was one of those battery hand-held fans that was also 99p. The comb was a really cheap plastic one & I broke out a couple of the teeth to make it 'gappy'; a lightbulb shaped pencil sharpener in MrT's back to school range for around 30p & a 5p for the silver :D

    Great range of items BigMummaF :D

    My brother will be 30 next year, thinking of doing him something similar. Already started a document with things that happened on the day he was born, year he was born, facts like average price of a house in 1979 (under £20k), facts about him - time born, what the weather was like on the day etc. I was only 4 at the time so am asking my m&d to provide the details here ;)

    BMF - thanks for that lot...........:j

    rainmac - I did a folder for my eldest son last birthday,of all the stuff that happened around his birth year, what the weather was like, what toys/music were popular, furniture, everything I could find in fact. Took me an age to find it all...........kept coming across stuff like the Pirate radio stations that were around at the time and there was loads of stuff about them, lot of fun though.

    Oh, just to say I've just done two more ''safe keeping' jars.........another one full of dried beans and one I've filled with multicoloured raw plugs for my son keep in his shed.............that way he'll have one and so will his girlfriend................lol

    Ohhh, just been invited to my friend's 40th. Going to have to make a survival kit for her :p

    Does anyone have any ideas of things I can add in addition to those already mentioned above? Anything specific about turning 40? Thanks :D

    Hi rainmac,
    i found some interesting/funny facts about being 40 here http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/editors-choice/2008/01/30/40-reasons-to-enjoy-turning-40-86908-20303245/ and these

    The past 40 years were all about preparation. Now you are both credible and incredible. 40 is the pivotal power age and here is why:

    ·You can become a doctor or lawyer and still have time left to practice;
    ·You can fall in love like a teenager and still have the time to grow up;
    ·You can marry a younger man without first having a facelift;
    ·You can have your first wedding anniversary;
    ·You can have children and still have the time to raise them
    ·You can shop at Victoria Secret without looking silly
    ·You can move to another country and still have the time to make it your home;
    ·You can take up a new sport without worrying about arthritis;
    ·You lived long enough to be sure about some things;
    ·You can say what you want and others will listen;
    ·You can still have fun without being medicated;
    ·You can do something that you have never done in your life.

    And remember this motto to live by:

    "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ "WOO HOO, what a ride!"

    Hi all!
    First time spotting this thread but I thought it would be the perfect place to share a dilemma of mine!
    I was intending on making pickled bums for my younger brother and a mate of mine so I have been saving any jars that I could in the cupboard. When we moved house I packed them up and then to my horror when I unpacked them they stink!! The jars had pasta sauce in them and they were thoroughly washed when I popped them into storage.
    Is there anyway of getting rid of the smell and making them usable or have I been saving jars for nothing?
