Credit Card Reclaiming Discussion

Hi nduncan, and welcome to MSE :hello:
If you've not already done so, I would suggest you have a careful read of the MSE article on reclaiming PPI charges.

If you still have any questions on attempting to reclaim PPI, then post them in the MSE forum on reclaiming PPI and other insurance where you will probably get a better response.

Well aware of what the OFT said, it was in Egg's and the FOS's letters.
It's the inconsistency that is the problem, as documented on this forum, people have had refunds from Egg, also had the FOS upholding cases and awarding refunds.
They either agree full stop with credit card charges or they do not. It should be across the board one way or the other.0 -
I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem. My husband was contacted by a firm promising to retreive his credit card fees through excess charges and the ppi. he has provided them with bank statements etc 6 months ago. They then wanted his credit card details and charged him the amount he already owed which toke him close to the limit ,also they then informed him to close the account. They initially told him this would take up to 6 months, the 6 months is up in the begining of july, but as his payments have doubled we are struggling. He has phoned them on several occasion but just say it wont be long, I'm afraid we've been conned and now owing twice the debt.0

The FOS, as an independant body, looks at all claims on an individual basis, taking into account both sides of the story & the evidence they both provide.
As no two claims are identical, a 'one size suits all' approach to resolutions would not be appropriate."Now to trolling as a concept. .... No, but I've been contacted in the past by someone who said I'd won the Spanish Lottery and they just needed by bank account details and mothers maiden name in order for their cousin Benson to transfer the winnings to me!

Hi after a bit of advice been using a firm called "bank smart" for claiming back on an old credit card with capital one. I received a letter off them with a final offer and also one of capital one. The card in question has been dead for some time due to me defaulting on it. Debt has been passed too a debt collection firm (Robinson Way) and i have been paying it off weekly this was a few years ago and on there statement says ex-capital one. The help i am after is some wording in the letter off capital one attatched to bank smarts and it says "Once we receive your form we will offset any refund against any outstanding defaulted balance, over limit arrears. By defaulted balances we mean any balance outstanding after credit facility has been revoked"
Any idea's please?0 -

It sounds like they may be planning on offering you a refund?
What they are saying is any refund will go towards paying off your debt with them.
(Some people wrongly hope think that despite owing a credit card money, the credit card company will send them a refund to spend on a holiday or something )"Now to trolling as a concept. .... I wrote to all my old credit card companies (i think 4 in total) using the standard letter asking for a list of my charges. Got a reply from Vanquis fairly quickly saying they had received my letter and would be looking into it. A week later and without me chasing them, they sent me a list of all my £12 charges which totalled £108 AND offered me a refund of the full amount without me even asking for one!! Well chuffed with that :j
Not so sure i'll have this much luck with the others though but 1 isn't bad eh?!
Good luck to everyone else out there...0 -
i thought we the consumer could get a refund from credit card companies now it seems its except from egg cardDoes the £57 offered equate perhaps to the difference between the £20 charge and the £16 cost Egg have proved to the OFT? That would seem to account for £40, so perhaps theyve added some interest too?
It's not anything recent, I think Egg proved the £16 cost was fair back in 2006 as the OFT were challenging it as it was above the usual £12 limit they generally automatically consider is unfair.
If so, it would be consistent with the FOS stance on credit card charges reclaims.0 -
i have 3 separate credit cards, which im paying of on repayment plans. im thinking about claiming back fees that ive incurred on these. But i dont have any old statements. Do i need to know how much ive incurred in fees? Think its quite expensive to request this info? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks0
