Hi, just after some advice please. I have recieved a response from Lloyds after my 1st letter advising me that they will not pay what i was asking but would refund what they thought was fair ( i.e the difference between £35 and £12 charges). I have sent my 2nd letter telling them I want the full amount refunded but in the meantime I have recieved a cheque for the amount they offered. Do I cash this cheque or will that in effect be seen as me accepting their offer?? Or will they send another if they decide to pay up in full ?? Really unsure as to what to do, please help.
Hi Beemamad, just wanted to share with you my experience which I thought you might appreciate as it was very similiar to your predicament, althought I appreciate mine was with a different financial organisation, Abbey MBNA.
I sent letter asking for full amount of charges. They responded with partial offer of just refunding the difference and enclosed a cheque for this amount. I banked the cheque and sent further letter thanking them for a partial payment which I accepted "without prejudice" (important you put this in your letter) but that I DID NOT accept their offer and that I was seeking the full amount of FOS procedure will follow. 2 weeks later I receive another cheque for full amount that I was seeking with a letter stating goodwill gesture and that fees are fair....blah, blah, blah.
Hope this helps, and keep going !!!!!If you see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck !!!!!!0 -
Can anyone help me...
I have a halifax credit card and i have still got £4500 outstanding on it. Can they tell me to repay the whole £4500 at once as I dont have the cash to repay it to them in one go ???
Regards
Craig
Mmmmmmm, interesting. Ive been after a response to this very same scenario and interestingly enough it is also with Halifax and also £4.5K.....SPOOKY !!
Anybody know if they can do this?
Furthermore, also whatabout if you are on a DMP or reduced repayment scheme with the organisation, I am thinking that these may be in jeopardy of being cancelled should I commence a charges claim against them ?
Anybody know about this ? Answers on a post card please..........If you see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck !!!!!!0 -
I have been reading the below comments and wonder if anyone can help - I have a store card which I had cover on it for unemployments/sickness etc. I have been out of work and rang to inform the company. They stated I did not have the cover. the only thing i can put this down to is that the company changed the cards over a few years ago and I just got a new card and continued on using without knowing the difference. The card went from being a store card to a visa/mastercard I could use anywhere - but i can not find any of my paperwork.
Would anybody have any advise of what I could do??0 -

I have got a Halifax credit card which I still owed 4,400 on it and it is with DC but I applied to halifax to get my charges back, I asked for £1030 but after I filled out all my paperwork I realised I had asked for OVER 6 years of charges. The 1st letter i got back offered me only the difference between the charge and £12 as a goodwill gesture. I politely turned this down and 7 days later got a 2nd offer in which they explained to me that i had asked for more than 6 yrs of charges and they would refund me all my charges + intrest to the tune of £978. I rang the DC to see if the money had been taken off my debt and they confirmed that it had.
I asked where that would leave me regarding outstanding balance and they said I would still keep paying it back as per my arrangement, so as far as in my experience you have nothing to loose. p.s thanks Martin:money:0 -

I have a friend who has lots of credit card debt and over the years he has paid thousands in interest and missed payments charges. To date I thinnk the outstanding balances on a multiple of cards is at least £25k.
Someone from a company called Cartel have offered to help him try to claim back the charges - they don't guarantee it - but say that due to the age of the cards, and the volume of charges he has made - he should be in luck.
I remember seeing on here that further investigation with Cartel was going on - and that no comments were being made officially by the site. Does anyone know what I can best advise my friend to do?
He is scared of upsetting the card companies and them withdrawing him any credit as that is how he lives at the moment with them. I hate paying fees of any kind to these companies and between them they are just sending people like him further and further into debt and I don't know how best to help him get his self back on financial track.
Any help or pointers on the way forward would be appreciated.0 -
A possible idea is for him to claim back on one card first, see how well it goes and then move on to the others, that way he's only putting one card at risk at a time.
Although the FSA have made some sort of ruling that the banks can't close down accounts due to the charges being claimed. I'm sure an MSE expert will be along soon to clarify.0 -
Thanks - good idea - we will look at which has got the highest charges and start with that one.
Can you point me in the right direction where to get the Martin's forms from - I just want to get the right ones and in the right order. Thanks0 -

Hi, here's the link to Martin's article on reclaiming credit card charges- http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/credit-card-charges
I dont really know anything about using companies to reclaim charges for you but if you just look through the successes thread, you'll see how easy it is to do it yourself.
The first step is to request a list of the charges if your friend doesn't already have all his statements. The template letter for that is in the article, as well as everything else you need.
