  • Thanks to the GREAT support and help from this site I have been persuing Egg Cridt Cards for £160 plus interest of £53.36 i.e. a total figure of £213.36. Since Egg wouldn't budge, I went through the Financial Ombudsmen. I received a letter from the ombudsmen service saying Egg would be prepared to pay me £140 charges and £47.56 interest to settle the dispute. I accepted. I patiently waited a few days for my cheque and got a letter from Egg. It said the £187.56 had been put into my Egg account to help against an outstanding Debt of £400!!!!!

As a consequence of divorce and selling the familiy home our (in my sole name) Egg credit card was paid in full in 2005 with profits from the house sale!!

Can they do this? I rang them and they say I owe them this. Obviously, before you all say it. I DIDN'T get a letter of satisfaction upon paying Egg in FULL in 2005. HUGE financial companies can't do this can they? £400 is nothing to them.

I feel like !!!!!! Turpins rode past me and had it away with MY money!

    I just don't know what to do...
  • I recently incurred a fee for a Gambling charge. Someone I know used my card without my knowledge to make a 40.00 gambling transaction, however they instead entered £4000 which was transferred to the betting account. This was transferred back the next day when I found out and received 6 days after the transaction date by Credit Card Company, due to the intervening weekend. The company has charged me £120 3% of the transaction as they deemed it to be a Cash Transaction (even though another card I own considers the same transaction equivalent to a Retail Purchase and charges nothing) a further £10 for going overdrawn and further interest and late payment charges. Having spoken to them recently however I have managed to get the debt reduced to £45.
Should I pay this or try to get the debt wiped out alltogether. What would happen to me if I did not pay the charges anyway, will they actually end up sending round debt collectors or bailiffs for this ? Would this Gambling transaction charge be classed as an unfair charge and able to be reclaimed if it was paid ?
  • I recently paid off my credit card. I had been crippled by huge charges over a long period. The bank let me pay a "settlement amount" which was about 80% of the balance. Can I now go back and ask for the remaining charges to be refunded or will the "deal" I got stand in my way? wld really appreciate any help.
  • Hi,

I was hoping that I might be able to get some advice please. I have been lucky enough to re-claim around £300 of bank charges in the past. I am now looking into my OH's credit card history. The problem is we have no details at all, no account numbers or old statements. He knows who the accounts were with, cany anyone tell me how I would go about getting statements or a list of charges from these accounts?

    Many thanks,

    purplegirl

I had a similar problem with MBNA - I wrote the standard letter and included my date of birth and previous address details - they found the account I wanted and I'm now waiting to hear from them as to the refund of charges request.

  • Hi i am new to all this but i have been reading all your stories over the last few weeks.

I am with rbs, think they are the hardest bank to get anything back from ever.

Over the last 9 months i have totalled up £399 of charges split over 2 of my accounts i have with them, i wrote a letter to them asking them to look into these charges and was really nice about it and explained due to financial issues i have been going thru over this last year or so i simply could not afford to have paid these amounts, (there was 1 mnth where i got 5 charges between my 2 accounts).

I explained that most of these charges i was never even notified of getting applied especially the referral charges that were being applied to my account later on in the month after they applied a service charge at beginning. these referral charges were then making me go over drawn resulting in another 2 charges getting applied the following mnth and so on.

Got a letter back explaining that the bank charge issues are all on hold at moment which i knew already but i clearly stated in my letter it was due to financial reasons that i had written it to them along with a copy of all my charges.
Got a system generated letter back with the financial forms i have to fill in stating all my outgoings each mnth. i am still awaiting a reply back with the outcome.

I have also got a credit card with them (unfortunately) i sent a copy of the template letter off of martin lewis site requesting a copy of all my charges i have received since i opened my card account back in 2006.

I received a letter yesterday with them totalling amount of £312, couldnt believe it was so much.

Can anyone tell me where i go now and if i should persue this further as all the charges are for £12, i have received 2 x Late pmnt fees and the rest have all been over limit fees but these were all due to charges getting applied the next mnth taking me over the limit when i was always paying them the slighlty more than what they were sending statement out for, (E.G stment amount was for £37 and I was sending in £45) but this was still not covering the over limit fee from previous mnth so its an ongoing issue every mnth.
Totally fed up with this bank and dont know where to go now or what letter i should send in to them with the charges to get them refunded.

If anyone can advise it would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

Send the first letter from reclaiming credit card charges, you will probably get back the standard letter of "£12 is fair". Then send second letter saying you are not satisfied and want full refund. They will either say ok or if they say no you have the choice of mcol or the FOS.
