Credit Card Reclaiming Success Stories

paddy_rich wrote: »Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can help, am pretty new to this site and have decided to try to reclaim credit card charges based on the success you guys have posted...
Long story short have had a credit card with Abbey (MBNA) for years, stupidly missed payments due to being very naive and youthful, thus being charged late fees and eventually over limit fees for quite some time. I would imagine it could amount to quite a tidy sum!
Was just wondering what impact this would have on credit rating and also relationship with the lender (not that I had any in the first place) - only ask is that my current account is still with Abbey although I know the credit card is with MBNA, I took it out through Abbey at the time?
Thanks all for your response if any...?
You probably need to start a new thread to highlight your story but i am not sure how to do it, hopefully someone wiill come along and sort it.
It shouldn't affect your credit rating or Abbey bank account. Do make sure you ask for contractual interest as well as 8%. They will credit your card and if you're lucky enough to have a credit balance after that they will send a refund cheque if you ask them to close the account.
Good luck!0 -

Absolutely nothing.
I reclaimed form Lloyds then closed down credit card.
I claimed over 2k from Natwest still have an account with them just dont use it. There are other banks out there.
It wont affect your credit rating at all. Only missed payments will show up. They cant say that you took them court to reclaim your charges and stick that on your file. They will just refuse you any deals but thats from internal scoring, nothing that they can put on your credti file.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

Then in the next paragraph they offer FULL REFUND - not even difference between charge and £12 - full £375 + interest @ 8%:T

Another success!!!! Woot Woot!!!
Barclaycard charges - 844.00
Interest - 339.65

Sent letter 2nd March. Got two letters saying they were dealing with my complaint then today got a letter offering me more than I asked for.
Thanks to MSE and anyone who advises on here.0 -
Hi everybody - my report is a little late... this is because I had to keep my success a secret in case my other half saw it, as I treated her to a plush meal in The Fat Duck with the money from my success, partly to say thanks for getting me out of schtuck with my normal finances!
Anyway, I have been trying to root out the letter and haven't managed to, but the general gist of it is that I got over £800 in charges and I think £290+ in interest... in basically came to just slightly over £1,100! This was with Barclaycard, who to be fair to them paid back everything without a question (albeit with the usual 'not our responsibility' caveats). I then moved on to my PPI, which I shall detail in the appropriate forum....
Thanks so much for the guides, they're BRILLIANT - and the email.0 -
Captial One amount reclaimed £395
No letter telling me they are making any kind of offer but when I looked online today there has been a Misc Credit Adjustment? on my account for £259 so I guess that's some of the charges, need to just fight for the rest now.
But rather something than nothing.RainbowLiberty0 -

Do you still have an active credit card with Barclaycard? When I got my refund they took it off my outstanding balance and then lowered my credit limit accordingly. Obviously it's still a good result for me but I would have prefered to keep my limit at what it had been.0 -
