    morning all,

i recieved a letter the other night from vanquis bank offering me £204.00 as a full and final settlement of my complaint against their credit card charges.

i only sent one letter about 4 weeks ago asking for my statements and a £10.00 cheque. They sent me the cheque back and told me they would investigate ... And they did! I have just signed the acceptance form and will be posting it this morning.

this cuts my outstanding balance in half which means i can now settle the outstanding balance and cut the damn card up! Happy days :):)

Can't comment on Capital One as Im still waiting to hear from them however with everyone I have sent letters off to I have put down any and every charge that has occured on my account. Be it £12, £20, £22, £25, £35. As well as the interest and some of those were 11p, 27p etc etc etc but they all mount up.

Only sent letters on 25th March and the first to reply re credit card charges was First Direct, they didn't argue at all, I'd asked for £82 + interest so was approx £120 I was asking for. They offered me £104.17 so it did cover my charges but not quite the interest but I was still happy to accept. They put it into my account the following day.

I got the £120 on my capital one card wiped with a phone call registering a complaint.

They'd passed me on to a debt collectors despite the fact that they knew I was between jobs etc and paying them a token £1 a month till back in work.

I read on here about reclaiming charges etc.. and I thought blimey I bet most of the money I owe on the card is charges.

I 10 minute call and the £120 left owing was wiped - and got in writing confirming it won't show against me on any v=credit checks etc.. as I was worried about that.
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!

    Provider: Sainbury’s Credit Card
    Amount Reclaimed: £125 (5 x £25) plus compound interest.
Amount they paid: £180.09 (5 x £13 plus compound interest.
    The story:

A few weeks ago I wrote to Sainsbury’s Credit Card about 5 x £25 charges they had applied to my wife’s card back in 2005 and asked them to pay them back in full.

I also pointed out that although they claim to not charge interest on their charges this is only true if their customer is able to clear their account in full the following month. Where someone is unable to clear the full amount off their card, as in our case, they are able to carry on charging compound interest on the outstanding amount which is made £25 greater by virtue of the unfair charge – between 15.9% and 17.95% in 2005, 17.96% in 2006 and 2007, 23.95% in 2008 and 28.95% in 2009 and 2010.

A week later we got a reply from Sainsbury’s saying that they didn’t agree with the OFT ruling but as a good will gesture were prepared to refund the difference between £12 and £25 - £65 in full and final settlement.

I declined their offer and pointed out that I also disagreed with the OFT ruling as I felt that £12 in no way reflects their true costs which I believe to be much less than this.

I suggested that I might be prepared to accept a solution based on the difference between £12 and £25 if Sainsbury’s were prepared to demonstrate that £12 is a true reflection of their costs by letting me have a full breakdown.

In any case we still asked for the compound interest back as well.

In the post this morning we received a letter from Sainsbury’s declining to give us a breakdown of their costs on the grounds that this was “commercially sensitive information”.

That said, they did offer us the £65 PLUS compound interest up to this month - £180.09!

Thank you so much for the above, I wrote to Halifax for £260.00 worth of charges, received a reply offering £65. Wrote back quoting quite a lot of your letter (hope you don't mind) received a letter on Saturday saying they would refund the original amount. Fantastic.
Thanks so much for this post.
  • Capital One coughed up this morning for charges and interest. This is a total of £513.71.It only took one template letter that was about 4 weeks ago.that is now the last card to claim for so thanks to all in this forum.

just had replies (well on friday only just got round to posting) from natwest and barclaycard. (charges reclaims are like buses you wait months for one and then 2 come along at once...:D)

Barclaycard have agreed to a full refund of charges including all of the revised £12 charges in full plus interest totalling £1,100.

Natwest have accepted my claim for financial hardship although have yet to confirm if they are offering a full refund or partial refund of my charges so i'll update further once i get their offer which i'm expecting within the week.

Good luck to all who are still trying.

Just be aware that any financial hardship claim does not entitle or may not involve a 100% refund of charges......once they make an offer we will see where or if we can up it.
