Provider: MBNA - -Virgin Credit card
Amount Reclaimed: £24
Amount they paid: £24
The story: sent them letter as per Martins Money Tips page, had 2 page letter back saying they will not pay back the 2 months of charges for missing monthly payment by less than 1 day!!! That was one sentence within the letter the rest of the letter was going on about going over credit limit - which i had never done! and also about the charges reflect the admin charges, So wrote another letter back complaining about the letter they sent saying that they had not really answered my query and asked what the admin charges covered - as thought £12 was a bit steep for a letter to be sent to me (2 weeks after missing payment by less than one day!). They wrote back about 4 weeks later saying that under data protection act they can not tell me that information but as i was not happy with their outcome they would refund the £24 but by paying this they are not condoning the £12 they charge for missing payments etc!!!
So quite happy that they refunded me £24, but as soon as i can i want to swap to 0% apr as lost that with virgin whn missed payment by less than 1 day!!Eve

Hi guy's,
Another success, Barclaycard this time. i originally wrote to them beginning of october, after getting nothing from them i chased via phone and fax and still nothing.
I wrote to the FSO on the 2nd December, dont know if they had anything to do with it but i finally got a response on the 30th December. As a goodwill gesture they are paying me £380 of charges plus £316.05 interest in full and final settlement. Unfotunatly they are going to credit the account which is partially setteled due to my completed IVA so i wont see any of it personally but never mind.0 -
Halifax
i reclaimed: £305
they paid me: £270
i used the HARDSHIP method.
I filled in the forms they sent to me (about hardship). I did lie. (i didnt care)
i got back about 90% of what I claimed.
BUT,,,
they CLOSED MY ACCOUNT SO I COULDNT ACCESS MY MONEY!!!!!
i wrote to them again and they finally sent me a physical cheque.0 -

Egg and Capital One at 1st letter stage0 -
Provider: Halifax
Amount Reclaimed: £943.19
Amount they paid: £1300.06
The story:
I sent a letter requesting a copy of charges at the end of October 2009, received the full list around the 3rd Dec 2009.
5th Dec - Wrote requesting full repayment of charges The majority were £25.00 charges but there were some that were £12.00 and I included those too and added the 8% interest.
7th Jan - Recieved a letter this morning offering me £286.00 (the difference between £25.00 and the new £12.00 charge) Was about to write them the a letter to say I wouldnt accept but with the snow I didnt really want to go to out to the post office so thought I'd give them a call. I spoke to a lovely lady and I explained that I wouldnt accept and she said she would have a look and call me back, I said well whilst you are on the phone I will tell you that there is no point offering me any amount lower than what I've asked for (in a very friendly was) and that I would not stop until I recieved the full amount. She said oh actualy I have just managed to review your charges whilst you are on the phone and I can offer you £1300.06??? Nearly £350.00 more than I asked for! Accepted, it is now showing as available credit on my account!
Thank you all for your help - Still a long way to go but finally I am on my way to becoming debt free!:j0 -
Hi everyone!
A few years back I moved my credit card around chasing the 0% interest offers. Going though my files I found charges applied to 5 different credit card accounts and after seeing all the success stories on this forum I thought I would try to reclaim those charges. I have managed to reclaim the following amounts:
Provider: Marbles
Amount Reclaimed: £27.11
Amount they paid: £27.54
Provider: RBS
Amount Reclaimed: £92.88
Amount they paid: £108.00
Provider: Mint
Amount Reclaimed: £26.12
Amount they paid: £21.60
Provider: Natwest
Amount Reclaimed: £188.50
Amount they paid: £168.48
Provider: MBNA
Amount Reclaimed: £217.47
Amount they paid: £214.17
I sent the initial claim letter and either received a flat out rejection or small settlement offer from all of them. The second letter threatening the FOS or a civil claim brought more realistic offers from all of them!
Marbles were by far the slowest, it took them nearly 5 months from the date of my first letter to me receiving the cheque from them.
My advice to anyone considering reclaiming is to go for it, but don't accept the first offer you get - MBNA's first offer to me was £13!
Thank you to everyone at MSE for this fantastic site.0 -
I have several credit cards, what are these charges for? I have never missed a payment so am I entitled to get anything back?0

Hello,
Wondering if someone can help me. IN short, started FOS proceedings against Capital One in Nov, and very qickly received a full and final settlement offer for the full amount claimed, plus interest. The letter stated the final figure would be debited of any defaulted amount, (of which there is none) arrears (of which there is none, I've kept my DD payment going from day 1) and lastly, and overlimit amount. Due to the charges, this was about £200. I have just found out instead of merely taking the overlimit amount, they have cleared my entire card balance. A zero balance is appealing, but I am annoyed they have gone against what they said in black and white print. I called to complain and was told to write to head office. Again. I'll be calling the FOS on Monday.
The offer letter said the offer was not an acceptance of liability on Capital One's behalf, so surely it is therefore upto me to decide how I spend the money? It's only a £200 difference, but I'd rather keep up regular payments to maintain my credit rating.0 -
Bank: Halifax
Amount Reclaimed: £149 plus £60.98 interest = £209.98
Amount they paid: £209.98
The story:
5 October - Sent S.A.R letter.
2 December - Sent first letter.
8 Dember - Received letter offering £65.
17 December - Sent second letter.
9 January - Received letter offering full refund of £209.98.
Thank you very much MSE.0
