Hi to all
Had my first success today. I rang Vanquis credit card about 3 weeks ago and registered my complaint about charges. I never even had to write a letter and today i have received a letter giving me back my charges of £288.00. Only a small amount but its a start.

Morning,
Here's my reclaiming story so far, hope something here that helps someone,
Firstly some background, I have previously held 6 credit cards, albeit at different times, I was made bankrupt in Aug 2008 at which point all credit cards were included, I have since been discharged.
Wrote letters on 11/11/09 to Skycard @ Barclaycard, Barclaycard, MINT, Alliance & Leicester x2 @ MBNA and Halifax,
I know I shouldn't have but I wrote of with the claim letter template slightly amended as I hadn't requested my last 6 years stmts, I simply requested a refund of all charges plus interest.
The first letter I got back was MINT rejecting my claim, I wrote straight back saying I wasn't accepting and would pursue through the court, within a further week they wrote back repaying the full amount plus interest (£250.56), they insisted however that it would only be paid to Equidebt who had bought my debt, I stated to them that I had been made bankrupt and as such the debt no longer existed, they wouldn't budge however. I therefore rejected their offer and I have now spoken with the FOS who in principle state 'if it is a goodwill gesture rather than an admission of liability then the funds are payable only to you personally by cheque', they have now taken up my complaint.
My first repsonse from Halifax was an offer of £296, I rejected this, bearing in mind I didn't know the total I was claiming, they have now agreed to pay me £898.96 by cheque as the full amount plus interest.
Alliance & Leicester(MBNA), two separate accounts dealt with under one complaint number, they have replied by sending me two cheques £296 & £280 representing the difference between the charges applied and £12, I have now banked these cheques and notified them that I intend to pursue the matter if the balance is not forthcoming.
Barclaycard and the Sky card (Barclaycard) are being dealth with under the same complaint reference, to date just an acknowledgement.
So far, including MINT, I've received £1725.52, still waiting for 2xBarclaycard and further payments from MBNA. Not a bad result for around 5 weeks.
Having been made bankrupt, other than my mortgage I have no debts, feels so good to have some 'savings' in the bank, first time for a long long time. I've learnt a very hard lesson, no frivolous Christmas for me, priority is a new year, new beginning after a very hard couple of years.
I spent hours reading all the posts on here before starting, thanks to everyone who has posted something, it gave me a great deal of motivation and knowledge as to how best approach this.0 -
Hi Greg,
Well done on getting money back from the bank! I've read lots of people's s stories about getting money back. I was wondering if I should give it ago, I've been out of a job for most of the year, and been in my over draft a had loads of bank charges for it. Do you think i'm in with a chance of getting money back?
Many thanks

Like many people on here I have debts with several credit cards and have no idea of the amount of charges that have been applied to these cards.
Also, I don't have spare tenners to send to each of them to find out. I also don't have access to a printer to get the template letters.
So, on the 11th December I wrote to Mint and the essence of my letter goes something like this:
"I am in the process of contacting the financial ombudsman regarding the charges that have been applied to my account.
In view of this I write to request that you send a list of all charges that have been applied to my account since it was opened..............
If we disagree on the fairness of these charges then it will be for the financial ombudsman service or indeed the court to decide......
I would be happy to accept full refund of these charges in order to avoid involving FOS or Court."
Got a letter today, listing all charges. The amount comes to £376. They have offered me £148. They have given me a phone number to discuss this matter if I am not happy with their offer. I don't want to talk to them over the phone and will reply using the fax number they have sent me.
I have sent this same letter to MBNA (they have sold on my debts) and will keep you posted.
Tired.
Update: I bit the bullet today and rang Mint......told 'em I will only accept a full refund of ALL the charges. She says, ok, full refund, plus 8% comes to four hundred and something pounds (to be honest, I was so shocked how easy it was that I didnt quite hear the amount!) She will send another letter in the post which I am to sign and send back. Then I will get the cheque.
Thank you so much to all the people on here for giving your support.

Hey guy's
a partial success with Capital one, they have today made me and offer of £127.01 regard default charges which i am going to accept, its not the full ammount but if i'm honest i'm happy with that. One thing that i am confused about is this:
All my credit cards were included in an IVA which was completed in 2007. Capital one are basically going to refund their offer to the card as although the account is setteled there is still an outstanding balance. so how come i had a cheques for nearly £600 from egg this morning regarding my PPI insurance. i dont get why one company refunds the card where as another send me a cheque. anybody know why?
thanks
