    Capital One
Amount Reclaimed: £640 in charges £169 interest
    Amount they paid:Full Amount £809

First wrote to capital One asking for my fees to be paid back, after to- ing and fro-ing they only offered me £227, I said no and kept on persuing them for the full amount, they wrote saying it was their final offer and i wouldnt get anymore, infact i would get less.

So i handed it to the ombudsman, they wrote back today saying:
The bank does not accept that its charges are unlawful or unfair. But following our intervention, it has told us that it would prefer to settle the complaint as an alternative to our formal investigation. It accepts no liability, but nonetheless says it will pay £640 plus interest of £169 to settle the dispute.

So i have to sign and return the form within 14 days which i have done already, so heres to the money very soon!!!

Keep going, don't let them dictate to you, it may take a while longer but worth it in the end!!!!

By the way, October 2003 was my first charge so i got it all back within the 6 year period

Hope to hear from Cap One soon. After receiving my SAR 23/09/09 I noticed a letter, dated 31st July '09 whereby they offered a partial settlement, in lieu of my PPI claim. I wrote back to them 7/10/09 asking for a higher amount. Told them I did not receive their original letter, dated 31st July. In their letter they said they want to settle this matter, soonest.

Their reply letter could be held up in the post.
  • Provider: Barclaycard
    Amount Reclaimed: £399 + £99 interest
Amount they paid: Whole amount requested
The story: Very straight forward. Paid my £10 for statements, asked them for the money back and they gave it to me. Currently with MCOL for claiming back £369 from Cap One as they only offered me £40. They have made it as difficult as possible every step of the way but I expected as much after reading this forum. I'm not giving up though.
  • Thought I'd add my tuppence. Not the highest amount - prehaps even the smallest on here - but still very welcome.

    Provider: Barclaycard
    Amount Reclaimed: £58.18

    Amount they paid: £58.18

    The story:

I was so angry with Barclaycard for making these two charges - dating from 2002 and 2005 - that I closed the account at the time .

Retribution and reparation were easy. I used the template on this site, sent a copy of the statement containing the later charge and posted it to the address given on this site. 3 weeks lapsed and I received a letter that refused to ackonwledge fault - their fees have always been reasonable, don't you know - but acquiesced completely. A phonecall to confirm bank account details and the transfer was made.
  • Again, another big thanks to all you guys on here - together we could conquer the world!!! :rotfl:

Ace catalogue: Claimed £367 (inc interest at 8%)
    Paid out £367!!!

First letter requesting charges sent 22/09/09, recieved charges 05/10/09, sent 1st letter requestings charges back 12/10/09 and recieve letter back offering full charges off account 26/10/09 - less than 4 weeks!!!

I have just had a phone call from my mum who is absolutely made up that Ace have responded to her, and advised that they will credit her account with £368, bringing the balance right down to £200!!! (on a DMP too!)
Already submitted a PPI claim with them so hopefully this will be just as quick - more than £700 owing on that!!

Now, I'm going to be cheeky and try to reclaim the actual interest charged on charges (34.8%!!!!!) - can't hurt!!!
Thanks again, to anyone who is in doubt about catalogues/store cards etc get those letters sent!!! :j I would never have bothered without this thread so thanks again
Pay off as much as you can in 2011: £780/£8000

    Ebay/Paypal target for 2011: £109/£1000
  • Provider: Lloyds TSB
    Amount Reclaimed: £851.00
    Amount they paid: £874.00

    The story.
Following 2 recent successes with Lloyds (£921) and Halifax (£200), I decided to reclaim on an old card of the wifes. Same processes used asked for list of charges and then requested money back. First offer of 12-20 difference, £175.00, turned down and sent letter again asking for full amount with 8% interest. They replied within a week and yesterday paid the remainder into current account. This was the easiest reclaim yet and from start to finish took only one month!
Now concentrating on 2 other reclaims including one I will take great pleasure in winning; Capital One (£495.00), expecting a bit more fun with them as they have already tried boring delaying tactics, but as Martin says I WILL NOT BACK DOWN until fully repaid.
Ahh the thrill of the chase, this really is quite good fun.:rotfl:
    Thanks Martin.
  • Provider: Barclaycard
    Amount Reclaimed: £832

    Amount they paid: £832

    The story:
I sent of the request for statements on 02/10/09 and they came back around two weeks later (I haven’t checked to see if they cashed my £10 cheque). I requested this for two Barclaycards that I have, and as I sent it as one letter I only sent one lot of £10.
I totalled the charges, and used the tool on this site to add interest. I was shocked at how much it came to. I sent a request for £1,000.29, but the reply points out that there was an error in my sheet (I checked and it was my mistake) the actual amount should have been a total of £832 across both cards. I sent the letter on September 28th, and the money was on my Barclaycard account by the 30th. Amazing, one account had a balance of £90 and I have now closed this, and the other had £350 and now has nothing. I even have money left over to repay other debts.

Thanks so much for guiding me through this, now I just need to wait for HSBC and Cap1.

As a thank you, I thought I should return the favour. I used to work for HSBC, if anyone has any HSBC questions I will do what I can to answer them (as long as it does not put me in breach of the confidentiality contract that I signed, so please, just general questions).

    Thanks again.

    Hi all

This is my first post, I have been reading everyones successes.
Barclaycard have been very straight forward, I have other claims in and some stil to start. See below.
I'm so happy I had to take a family loan to sort my debts out so the more claims I can win the quicker I can clear my debt.

Thanks to everyone who posts and gives advice - you dont realise who much inspiration you give to people.

    Barclaycard - win £365 - after 1st request letter
MBNA - !st request letter in
ABbey CC - 1st request letter in
Halifax - denying all knowledge of my account - I dont have cc number!
Nationwide CC - still messing about, sending statements to the branch (apparently cant identify me, only sent partical statements, promised rest verbally in 10 days) currently giving them the benefit of the doubt due to post strike.
Egg Loan & CC - Yet to start claim
Abbey Bank account - Yet to start claim (this will be my big one - dreading it).

Evening all - you gave me the courage to claim 13 x £12 charges from AA Visa (HBoS):j. I simply sent the first letter requesting 8% interest on top. Today I received a letter confirming that whilst they are unable to uphold my complaint they have refunded the full amount + 8% interest as a gesture of goodwill. A total of £208.93. Many thanks to you all!:D:D

    Hi
Thanks to you for the post. I sent off several £10 cheques the other day requesting a list of my charges. I assume from your payout that they have refunded the statutory £12 which is the minimum they charge. Would you please let me know if this is correct and do you have the template letter that you used plse?

    Thanks
