Just wanted to saya BIG thank you for this site, because otherwise I would have never known about reclaiming charges. I am an avid user of this site (tend to peek in rather than post) however felt I wanted to share my joy !!
Wrote my first letter to Barclaycard in August asking for my statements of charges (enclosed my £10). Received them in September.
With a fine tooth comb I went through and was surprised I did not have that many !! Anyway there were 2 charges of £20 late payments, the rest were £12 charges and 2 over credit limit charges at £12 each.
Totalled £140 and the interest calculator came out at £32.07.
So, off went my second letter asking for charges and included all my necessary paperwork.
I had an acknowledgement from them saying they were dealing with my enquiry and get back to me within 14 days.
Had a letter on Monday saying that although they felt the charges were fair, as a gesture of goodwill they would pay me the whole amount PLUS the interest.
(Whoo-hoooooo)
There was a slight hitch when they said they would amend my balance accordingly through the debt agency the card is with - I made a short settlement to Barclaycard (Mercers) in Nov 2007 when I was horrendously in debt. I contacted them and explained the situation and was worried they may well just reduce the figure, but according to a nice young man, they will pay me the money into my nominated bank account, and today I have had a letter confirming this.
So am really pleased, that hopefully by next week I will be £172 better off.
PPI claim next I think !!!
Thanks again, and I think I was very lucky it was such a smooth procedure.I'm a Chocoholic ..... and proud !!!0 -

BARCLAYCARD claimed: £176 + £21.35 interest
RECEIVED: Entire amount (yay!)
I reclaimed £176 plus £21.35 for late charges on my Barclaycard - I sent the 1st template letter less than 40 days ago, then sent off my 2nd letter detailing the charges plus interest I wanted back (once I got my statements sent to me) - Today I have a letter in my hand stating they will refund the entire amount 'as a goodwill gesture'. I'm chuffed to bits. Bloody great site this is! :beer:0 -
Hi, new to all this, and hopefully about to claim back some charges for the 1st time. I've familiarised my self with the template letters, but wondering, which address do I send them to? The same one that is on payment envelopes and statements???0

Provider: Halifax
Amount requested: £650
Amount received: £650
I wrote to the Halifax in July asking for a copy of my statements and enclosed my £10, I received the papers back approx 3 weeks later but I didn't do anything with them until 1 October 2009 when I requested £650. I received a letter fromthe Halifax 15 October saying they did not agree with the analysis of the default fees inthe Office of Fair Trading's statement in April 2006 but nevertheless they reduced theie rees to £12 with effect from 1 August 2006 and that they didn't accept my request but would offer me £193 without admission and liability. I wrote back to them on 19 October saying not accepting and I receved a letter 26 October stating they would pay back the £650 directly into my credit card account. I have checked this morning and the money has already been credited to my account
I call this a great success.0 -
Capital One
Amount Reclaimed: £640 in charges £169 interest
Amount they paid:Full Amount £809
First wrote to capital One asking for my fees to be paid back, after to- ing and fro-ing they only offered me £227, I said no and kept on persuing them for the full amount, they wrote saying it was their final offer and i wouldnt get anymore, infact i would get less.
So i handed it to the ombudsman, they wrote back today saying:
The bank does not accept that its charges are unlawful or unfair. But following our intervention, it has told us that it would prefer to settle the complaint as an alternative to our formal investigation. It accepts no liability, but nonetheless says it will pay £640 plus interest of £169 to settle the dispute.
So i have to sign and return the form within 14 days which i have done already, so heres to the money very soon!!!
Keep going, don't let them dictate to you, it may take a while longer but worth it in the end!!!!
By the way, October 2003 was my first charge so i got it all back within the 6 year periodAnd yes the lady in the avatar is me
