Card Provider - Natwest
Amount Claimed - £316 charges + £77.43 interest
Amount Received - £341.28
I wrote to Natwest requesting statements on 23/03/09, received these and followed template letters to write back and ask for all charges and interest, they replied offering to pay the difference between the £25 charges and what the revised charge was - £12 and offered us £95.04 which I refused, wrote back threatening court action and within a couple of weeks received a letter offering us £341.28 which we promptly accepted!
This was my first claim and the fact that it went so smoothly has just given me the confidence to pursue others.0 -
Card provider - Virgin Money (through MBNA)
Amount claimed - £424.00 + 21.44 interest
Amount paid - £424.00
Requested statements on 23/03/09, received money yesterday
After I sent the letter requesting te charges refunded they sent a letter referring to the contract, charges being detailed in it, fair etc. so I replied with the letter threatening court action and they refunded all monies.
Note though, I had a ridiculous credit limit of £9800 with them and I paid it all off and cancelled the card in November 2008, they sent me a statement yesterday showing that I had the £9800 limit plus the credit balance that they refunded onto the card from the charges available to spend. I instantly thought that I was not going there again so rang them up and asked why the card was not cancelled and they explaiend that it was the only way they could refund me the charges, I said that I did not want the card and it should remain cancelled so they promptly offered to send the money into my current account so don't be tempted!0 -

Provider: EGG
Amount Reclaimed: £372 pluss £90 interest....total £462
Amount they paid: £352 plus £83.49 interest... total £435 ???
The story: This has been a saga and EGG have tried their best to be difficult. I applied for my statements and it took EGG nearly 4 months to send them. I complained and got them in 2 days. Then got the original lot a week later with my £10 cheque returned too.
I asked for the full charges plus 8% interest.
The first reply was ' you're due nothing, charges are legal etc'
I sent Martins second latter and again got 'you're due nothing blah blah'
I sent another more militant letter threatening court action and recieved an offer of £32 and charges are legal blah blah again.
I sent another letter thanking them for the offer and I'll accept £32 as down payment but telling them to make a sensible offer or its court.
I got my offer of £435 this morning woo hoo!!!!
I persevered with this because I had read the forums and I knew EGG would be as difficult as possible so I would be put off and go away.
DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED!!!!
Thanks to Martin and the team and to the forum contributers. So far I've got my Royal Bank of Scotland charges (hardship claim), Mint Card, RBS Access Card and now EGG Card totalling about £9000.
Now trying for Frasercard.... (and I'm debt free now woo hoo!!):T0 -
Thanks for the replies, it is so helpful here !
Barclaycard have sent me the letter asking for the £10, but I see some people just ask for the charges back without knowing the value ?
Is this advisable ? Or should I add everything up from the statements when paid the £10 ?
Is there a template letter asking for the charges when you don't know how much?
xxx
I would give them the £10 if I were you. That way YOU have complied and the ball is in their court again (sorry Tennis on the brain at the mo)
My advice to you would be to stick to the templates letter for the first couple of reclaiming actions. That way, you will become aware of all the steps in the dance that the reclaim process can present to you. Eventually as you become more experienced in the procedure then you can start cutting corners.
Good luck in your quest and keep us posted. If you see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck !!!!!!0 -

Write back and say you no longer need the statements....:D0 -
Managed to get close to £800 back from a number of c/cards without much trouble with the exception of Citibank, who were appalling. Ignored request for statements, despite cashing my £10, only supplied them after I went to FOI commissioner. Then were still very slow to respond, sent very officious letters, said I had to sign a statement accepting their final offer (which was for the amount I had claimed) within two weeks (which I did even though it was unenforceable) and even then they took a month to pay up, even though they said they would send payment within 10 working days.
My advice is to
a) claim all charges, even £12 ones and let the companies argue against.
b) don't back down or settle for anything less than you have claimed
c) persist, especially with Citibank

CREDIT CARD- BARLCAY'S
AMOUNT REQUESTED: £792 + £181 (8% INTEREST)
AMOUNT REFUNDED: £973
- Sent first letter statement request with £10 cheque: 11th May 2009
- Called the call centre in India on the 18th June to find out when statements would arrive, they blamed the postal system in the UK. Statements arrived the following day.
- Sent second letter with details of charges along with interest on the same day (19th June) set timescale of 14 days for response.
- 2nd July - Called the call centre again to check if letter had been recieved got through to India again. The customer service agent (nice guy) was unaware of what these claims where all about so had to explain it all. He said he couldn't transfer me to the UK but would call on my behalf. I then had a 3 way telephone conversation with a call centre manager and the customer service agent. slightly frustrating! The Manager told him to tell me that all claims where on hold, I then told the agent that they where not on hold for CC charges but bank charges. They told me to resend the letter as they had not recieved it. Resent the letter- first class post!
- Recieved a letter the following day (bit weird) with amazing news that made me very very happy! That they would refund me with £973 in full and final settlement! Woo Hoo!!:j
They have refunded it to my CC which only has £300 on it so called the centre again and they agreed to transfer the rest to my bank account! Then I'm going to close the account. With the remaining amount I can pay off some of my debt and feel a happier that I am on my way to being debt free!
I just want to say a massive thank you to Martin and the website for helping to have the confidence to make a claim. I am in financial hardship so this money really helps! I am currently processing a claim with the FOS as HSBC have admitted I am in hardship but will not refund any charges until after the court case. But hey one down, one to go!
