    Amount Reclaimed: £1264.12

    Amount they paid: £1264.12

    The story:

Wrote to MBNA on the 2nd April asking for a detailed list of all charges over the last 6 years and then this turned up on the 9th April. On the same day I wrote asking for all charges to be refunded with an additional 8% interested added on top.

    30th April - Offered £344

3rd May - Sent letter demanding full payment of additional £920 or going to take to the small claims court, set deadline of 26th May for response.

Today - Recieved letter stating that they are crediting the remaining £920.12 to my account within 3 days.

Now looking to challenge old accounts, does anyone have advice on how to get your old details on accounts? I have an experian account and know the addresses, should I just write off? Obviously well worth it...

Keep it up everyone! Great advice Martin!:T:T:T

    The Story:

Sent off first letter 10 days ago and din't request a specific amount, just asked for all charges to be refunded with interest.

    Barclaycard and Barclaycard Goldfish

    Letters sent 18th May

    Claims :
    Barclaycard - Charges £708, Interest on charges £405.95 = £1113.95
    Barclaycard Goldfish - Charges £676, Interest on charges = £436.44 = £1112.44

Both claims settled in full today!!!
No wriggling or squirming on their part and the interest I claimed was not the statutory 8% (although i did detail that as well in my claim) but my calculated estimate of the interest which I had paid them on the charges.
    A good result

Thank you Martin and thanks to Natweststaffmember and Esmerelda for all their help

    Provider: Capital One
    Claim: 651.25 (with interest)
    Received:651.25

Went through all the usual templates with Capital One, they offered £64 final offer. Downloaded form to fill out for financial ombudsman and sent it away, got a reply from them a week later to say they were investigating. Every couple of weeks i had a letter to explain due to everyone claiming etc it could take up to two months for a result. Around a month later i had a letter stating that they were offering above amount to me. Sent acceptance form off and viola, cheque in the post!!

    cheers martin!

    Amount Reclaimed: £716.11
    Amount they paid: £656. 64
    The story:

Wrote 17th April asking for charges, enclosing a £10 cheque. Had a reply within a fortnight, including my cheque back as they don't charge for this service.

Claimed £716.11. Was offered £120ish which was the difference without interest. Said no!

Offered £656.64, which they randomly claimed was the full amount. At that point I was happy to settle.

Only four more guys to go after (Barclaycard, Capital One and Egg, the latter who are being an !!!! getting the list of charges)

    Amount requested: £600
    Amount paid: £600

    Story

I wrote to MBNA in early 2009 demanding they refund me all charges going back 6 years. They responded with a letter that it was fair, blah blah but they would refund me a miniscule amount.

I responded with a threat of court action as their fees were unfair and too high. Received a response a week later offering full amount as goodwill gesture!

Happy days, my unfair and illegal charges have been returned to me

Went through reasonably quickly. Requested information - we had to chase them for this as they went beyond the 40days but this was quickly resolved.
Sent letter reclaiming charges. Received letter saying as a gesture of goodwill will make settlement of £683.84 :j :j

A big big thank you for all the excellent advice :T :T :T

    Provider: NatWest
    Amount Reclaimed: £256
    Amount they paid: £142
    The story:

A late payment in Feb this year resulted in NatWest (temporarily) stopping my Access card. Phoned them up and they agreed to waive the late payment fee and interest and credit the account but this didn't happen and when I phoned up again I was snootily told that they wouldn't refund the charges. I was so mad I started looking around and found this site.

I claimed £142 in total for late payments which represented the full late payment charges and the 8% interest. Also tried to claim a further £114 for additional interest charges incurred in the last year since NatWest signed up to the Faster Payment Service - they still took 3/4 days in some cases to process payments from my NatWest current account which meant that in some cases my payment was late.

NatWest initally offered £26 but a second letter using Martin's template resulted in them offering to pay the £142 which I was happy to settle as I didn't expect them to credit any additional interest charges. So glad I pursued things plus I've also as a result taken out a new cash back credit card now with much better terms. A big thanks to Martin and the team :T:T
