Credit Card Reclaiming Success Stories
Comments

I reclaimed 3 years of PPI from HSBC card services for a policy they sold me over the phone (under pressure) because they had already sold me another policy in 2000 in my account holding branch that covered my credit card payments. I followed a template from this site insertiing details personal to me. After 12 weeks of waiting i received an offer of almost £1100 which were all my payments plus 8% interest which I have accepted and it is now in MY bank account and not theirs.0

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at Moneysaving Expert.......
1st Letter sent to Nat West on 20th March 2009, claiming charges totalling £96
Received a reply 7 days later, saying no to refund of charges.
2nd Letter sent on 21st April, threatening to take them to the small claims court.
Received a reply 5th May, offering £157... (£96 charges plus interest)
Wow, how easy!!! 30 mins work and the price of two stamps. :T
I still have a long way to go, as I have a few credit card debts, but this has spurred me on and will help to pay off a little bit of the balance...
Many, many thanks again.0 -
Provider: MBNA
Amount Reclaimed: £956
Amount they paid: £956
The story:
I have been reading the forums on here for nearly a year now, in that time I have reclaimed some cash from the big money lenders out there. I have finally decided to sign up and take part in the discussions so here goes...
Having read about lots of people reclaiming 'unfair credit card charges' I decided to write to MBNA and ask them for a copy of all the charges they had applied to my Credit Card Account over the last six years.
They sent me the info within 2 weeks (no charge) and I grabbed the nearest calculator. I worked out that I was owed nearly £960 in charges. This included all of the supposedly fair £12 charges.
I wrote to them asking for all of it back, they replied with the ''we can refund the difference between £12 and the full charge, but any charges £12 or less we will not refund''.
I wrote a reply stating that if they did not pay me every penny then I would be speaking to the FOS.
The reply came a week later along with a £956 Credit to my account, cutting my Credit Card Debt in half! :-)
Result!
Thanks to Martin :money: and also to those of you who have written down your success stories as it was reading these that inspired me to put pen to paper and reclaim what is mine! :j

Egg Card
Amount Claimed: £160 charges + £5.50 interest
Amount Agreed: £160 charges + £5.50 interest
Back in February I wrote to Egg using the template letters to try and claim charges back for overlimit when they applied their interest, I had never missed a payment etc.
All of the charges were the £12 variety.
Egg rejected me right away telling me that was the end of it and to go to FOS if unhappy. I wrote back to Egg and they didnt reply - so off to the FOS I went.
It has taken a few weeks but letter in from FOS today detailing Egg dont accept their charges are unlawful but will refund them.
A little bit of comfort given their APR has risen from 13.9% to 29%+ since I took my card out a few years ago. I cancelled the card earlier this year to lock in the rate and aviod the rise to 31.9% (iirc).0 -
Provider: Lloyds TSB Credit Card
Amount Reclaimed: 657.83
Amount they paid: £921.33
The story: OK... I've just finished dealing with Lloyds TSB Credit card, reclaiming the charges back and had a very quick turn around. So thought I would give you all the timeline of events:- 17th April 2009 - Original letter sent requesting repayment of charges + statutory interest @ £657.83.
- 27th April 2009 (received 1st May) - Lloyds replied... don't agree with OFT decision, blah blah blah and refunded £225.32 onto card as a gesture of goodwill.
- 1st May 2009 - Wrote back, accepted refund as partial payment without prejudice, asked for the remainder, if not... court action is next step.
- Lloyds had until Monday 18th May to respond... otherwise I shall be taking another little trip to the local court!
- 13th May (dated 8th May) received final response letter from Lloyds and I am gobsmacked!!! They have agreed to refund £696.01 (I'm not sure where this figure has come from... unless I missed some charges off!) on top of the £225.32 they refunded a week and half ago!!!
That's a total of £921.32 reclaimed, when we only asked for £657.83!
I think we will settle on this one!
Good luck to everyone else... go for it... you've got nothing to lose. It only took us 3 and a half weeks to get what we asked for and more back!

I put in and received a refund from Halifax couple of months back which paid off a good portion of the balance on that card. I recently transferred bal from my Barclaycard to another card (lower interest) before requesting refund of charges from Barclaycard themselves. Got the money back plus interest! Used some of it to clear rest of my Halifax card.
End result one less card with a balance on and closer to being debt free on my credit card.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0 -
Barclaycard
Total charges inc. interest £330
Claim paid within 1 week.
Claimed back my bank charges before they were all put on hold, but as I didn't think my credit card charges were that high I never looked into it. When I eventually did I totaled them ALL up (including the lower £12 ones) AND added the interest. Was shocked when Barclaycard got back to me within 1 week and credited the full claim amount to my card. Well worth a couple of hours work.:beer:0
