  • Cahoot Loans

    Amount Claimed: £220 + £38 interest

    Amount Received: £220 + £38 interest

This all started in July. Sent letter 1 and 2. Abbey wrote back saying that bank charges claiming were on hold. I wrote back saying that this was nothing to do with bank charges and it was a loan. I then referred it to the Ombudsman. I then received a letter from Cahoot saying that Abbey shouldn't have been corresponding with me in the first place and they were sorry for their error.

Today I received a letter from the Ombudsman saying that Cahoot felt their charges were perfectly justified but would pay in full to avoid being investigated.

Result. Thanks once again Martin.
  • It is really good reading some of these stories, and can offer hope to some who can't see a way out.

    keep up the great work
  • Hi everyone, never posted before but have researched for a while with this thread so thought I would post my successes!

Barclaycard x 2 - refunded full amount inc interest to my accounts after second letter

Egg - refunded full amount inc interest after second letter

Egg Credit Card PPI - wrote to say I wanted a copy of signed agreement as I could not recall requesting PPI and also that due to previous medical history I deem it to be invalid, full refund straight to card within two weeks but no actual written correspondance!

Northern Rock/MBNA/M&S all at second letter stage so will keep you updated!!
  • ABBEY MBNA

    Amount claimed £1278 + Interest £406.27

    Amount Received £1278 + Interest £406.27

Back in March I got my list of charges through which amounted to £1278.
I sent the first letter and only asked for that amount back with no interest as didn't want to seem too greedy and be rejected.
2 weeks later i received a cheque for £618 (difference between charges and £12) which I was happy with so just banked the cheque and forgot about it.
Last month I was looking on this site and read the stories of people getting the whole lot back so thought 'nothing to loose' so sent the second letter asking for the remainder of the charges plus interest or i will take then to court. just over 2 weeks later I have received a letter saying they think charges are fair but they are sending a cheque for £1,066.27 to clear the balance.
I was worried I wouldn't get anything back as it had been 6 months since I got the first cheque and never replied saying I accept without prejudice (although did say this in my second letter)

I know there are probably quite a few people out there who have got the initial amount for the difference back and settled for that as they don't want the hastle but go for it! It took me 10 mins and a stamp to send the second letter and got it all back with interest. There really is nothing to loose.

    Go for it!

Thanks Martin and all the contributors to MSE
  • Oh and I forgot I claimed £456 from Halifax they offered £211 after first letter now offered £553 after second letter to be paid by cheque as the card is closed, yay!
  • Myself:
    Provider: Barclays
    Claim: £2400
    Won: £2000

    Parents:
    Provider: Barclays
    Claim: £1,500
    Won: £1,200

    Best Friend:
    Provider: Halifax
    Claim: £2,800
    Won: £2250

    Best Friends Wife:
    Provider: Halifax
    Claim: £1950

    Well done.

Can you tell me if the barclays ones were credit card charges and if so, did they just credit your account or sent you a cheque?

    Thanks
  • Povider: Natwest
    Amount Reclaimed: £432 + £77.42 Interest
Amount Paid: £479.52 (They left on a £12 charge that had already been refunded years ago, and worked the interest out differently!?)
    The Story:

First wrote on 16th Oct '08, got response offering the difference of £8 in line with OFT ' standards'. I refused and asked them to explain what 'standards' when the OFT merely made a statement on it's position and said it wouldn't contemplate prosecution on charges below £12.

Recieved an offer of the difference plus interest on 4th Nov '08 to which I said no.

Sent NBA on 11th Nov '08 in which again I pointed out their descrepancies.

Offer of £479.52 recieved on 19th Nov '08, now just waiting for a cheque!!

Now just Barclaycard, then Alliance & Leicester and Barclays bank charges (Hardship case).

I think I'll leave Natwest bank charges for the moment as they'll remove my overdraft facility and leave me in a world of hurt......

    Lloyds TSB

  • My story.....Capital One

1st letter sent 12th Sept 2008 requesting all my charges £1,112.

    Received reply 23rd Sept 2008 offering £316.

2nd letter sent 15th Oct 2008 refusing offer and chasing full amount or court action.

Received reply 21st Oct 2008, again offering £316.

Took my claim to court paid the necessary fees and now i have my cheque for £1,112 (which includes the 8% interest) plus the court fees reimbursed, smashing !!!

Just goes to shows that if you persist, you are more than likely to get all your money back which is, rightfully yours. So don't give up !

A big massive thanks to all fellow moneysavers who have helped me through this process, you know who you are.
