    the story,

response within days, statements sent to me.
added up charges £432-00, sent 2nd letter off with charges list.
they responded in days again, act of goodwill offer of £182-00.
i wrote straight back, threatened court action.
they sent another letter £364-00 offer, i accepted, no hassle of court for a few quid.
it took 2 weeks start to finish, money paid into my account before i even accepted.

don't lose hope all those claiming.

its your money, reclaim it:beer: happy days.

  • HI, just a note to let you know that I had success with both.
MBNA I wrote to, gave them the details of charges that I had statements for and asked that they give me details of the rest. They took a couple of weeks, but didn't send me a list, they sent me a cheque for £136 instead. That was the difference between the £25 they had charged and £12 it 'should have been'. I complained that they had also doubled my interest rate, for no reason, to 35%! The account has been paid by DD for more than 2 years and when I asked why they had done it they said "because we can".
Personally, I think they stink and will have nothing more to do with them. I cleared off the balance but haven't told them where to stick their account yet. Knowing how they operate, I will expect to get an offer to transfer some balances sometime soon!

On to Amex. Even better than MBNA except that I had to send them a second letter threatening court action but then they paid up beautifully.
My card is an Amex Green charge, not a credit card and had been hit with some fairly hefty charges, over £100 for being a few days late, but as with MBNA, I detailed the ones I had and asked for the details of the others. They not only listed out all the charges, but they also paid me interest at 8% as well, less the £12.

All in all I got back £507 so not a bad result at all.
  • Just wanted to say thanks to the site and all the info as I used the templated and all the info and have had money back from:

    GM Card - £972.10
    RBS - £170
    Capital One £103

RBS & Capital One both paid out after i sent the first letter. both worked it so I was charged £12 instead of the £25 and both also paid me 8% interest on the money.

GM Card said no to the first letter and then after sending letter two, not only did they pay but they paid the full amout so ever single charge was paid out in full and also 8% added. how shocked was I :)

Thanks once again to Martin for hosting such a good site.

    Provider: ALLIANCE + LEICESTER
    Amount Reclaimed:£239.57
    Amount they paid:£239.57
The story:One template letter to request the info on charges, I included £10 cheque. A+L supplied the info very quickly returning the cheque. Template letter 2 asking for all charges plus interest. They made an initial offer of £72,( there were 9 charges at 20, which they reduced to £12 and 1 of 12)I disagreed THREATENING COURT ACTION in a third template letter. They paid a further £167.57 = payment in full.
1 down 9 more in the pot.
Thanks Martin I couldn't have done it without the help of your template letters.:T

(just a few sentences, please include how far you went did you a. just write a letter, b. threaten to go to court or c. actually go to court) [/quote]

Provider: The Co-operative Bank (was a Northern Rock CC)
    Amount Claimed: £124.49
    Amount Paid: £100.05

Found I had most of the statements (Hello my name is Flossie and yes I hoard paperwork), so no need to write off for them. Launched straight into the second letter, complete with the list of charges and interest, thanks to Martin’s interest calculator.

Letter acknowledging my letter received a few days later. Yesterday, a cheque for £100.05, with some explanation about the missing £24.44. I will have a look at that in more detail next week and see if it is worth pursuing. Meanwhile the cheque is in the bank!

Not a huge amount compared with some, but I am happy, and as a well known supermarket says ‘every little helps’.

    Thanks Martin, thanks MSE.com!
