  • Lloyds TSB
    Claimed approx. £120
    Amount they Paid. £120
    After only 2 letters!

Barclaycard next - I have claimed approx. £120 from them also and notice that they have refunded me £24 +interest, so will be sending them a 2nd letter too.

    Thank you Martin:T
  • MBNA

    Amount asked to reclaim: £302.00
Amount payed out to me: £302.00

After only a couple of letters, and the one threatening court action, MBNA payed out to me, which is a result! I can now easily go about paying off the remainder of this card shortly and get it off my hands! persistence does pay off

    Thanks MSE!
  • We looked back through old CC statements and found 3 instances of late payment fees - 1 with a store card, and 2 with credit cards.

So far, the store card and one credit card have refunded the full amount, but the third is refusing to pay.

I'm writing a second letter, requesting settlement with the threat of court proceedings if they don't settle!!

2 out of 3 ain't bad as the song goes, but could be 3 out of 3 if this second letter works!

Give it a go - worth the cost of a stamp or two eh?!!
  • Hi,

My partner opened a store card with Topshop the other day (...terrible i know!). They've since called to say that they forgot to get her to sign the contract. Does that mean that she isn't liable to fulfill the agreement and pay the money back?

Does anyone have any advice as to how I should go about getting it written off or would it mean bad credit in the future?
Any adivce would be appreciated :)

    Amount Reclaimed : £845.01
    Amount they paid out: £800

Just in time for Christmas shopping! :D:D

I've been unemployed for 18 months and funds were at zero!
Now it looks like i'll be able to pay of my High interest credit card debts and still have enough to buy presents this year :D:D

Took nearly 3 months! due to them initially refusing to accept my claim due to the fact the card was issued to a different address.

It took me ages (well over 3 weeks of letters and calls) to get them to accept I'd cancelled the card a year before I moved house and I belived i was not required to notify them of the move. They still sent all letters to the old address, lucky the new tennents kept the letters unopened till i found out about it and picked them up! But once i got my address changed it went smooth :D

    !Snoopy Dance! :D

Perfect way to end the week :D

    p.s.

Drat just remembered I need to get the money from the canceled credit card. So more paperwork and calls on Monday :(

  • Provider CAPITAL ONE

    Amount cliamed £522.09
    Amount paia £535.16

Way back in June 2008 i requested a copy of statements and paid the £10 fee.

It totalled £522.09 inc interest and they offered £120 and £10 as a goodwill gesture towards the interest occured. I turned down that amount and asked for the full amount to be paid.

Of course they refused and i was wondering if i should o through the courts or the Financial Ombudsman.

Decided to go with the FO and filled in forms and waited.

And deep joy got a letter the other day saying Capital one are settling in full... i am over the moon.

Took a while from early june but i am glad i done it

    Thanks martin...you are a star

    Congratulations!!

Did you receive the money by means of a cheque?

If so, does your husband still have an outstanding debt with them?

    Thanks
  • Provider: Barclaycard
Amount Reclaimed: £1,385.43 (£1,099.00 without interest)
    Amount they paid: £1,186.92

    The story:

14/08/08 - Data request sent off with £10.00 cheque

29/08/08 - Copies of all statements sent from Barclaycard

22/09/08 - First letter requesting refund of charges plus interest

26/09/08 - Letter from Barclaycard offering me £409.32

07/10/08 - Second letter requesting refund of charges - I gave them the option of paying £1,099 if they replied within 14 days failing which I would commence court proceedings.

10/10/08 - Final response from Barclaycard offering £1,186.92

I accepted this final amount and it's now in my bank account. I've paid for my car insurance in full and am no longer using my overdraft.
Still waiting for Halifax to respond and have gone to the Financial Ombudsman about Capital One.

Thank you to Martin and all the other Money Savers who have posted their stories - I nearly accepted Barclaycard's first offer but am so happy I stuck to my guns, I wouldn't have been able to do it without this website and it's Members.

    Hi Vicky

Can you let me know if you've an outstanding debt with Barclaycard on a credit card, and if so, did they credit your bank account that is with Barclays, or did they credit a current account you have elsewhere?

I'm just querying because i'm tempted to claim my charges back but am on an IVA so they will probably just credit the debt that is outstanding on my card, which wont really be any use to me short-term.

    Thanks for any advice given
