Loan paying off May 2022 £70000 -
On reading some of these success stories, I can't believe the number of people who, upon getting a payout, instantly book a holiday here, or buy this, that or the other with this "windfall". Personally, any balance going back onto my card is staying there as I attempt to pay off my credit cards. I have learned the hard way that spending on credit cards can be devastating to your finances long-term and, as my old Granny used to say: If you can't afford it today, what makes you think you can afford it tomorrow?

Provider: LLoyds TSB
Amount Claimed £428 (inc interest)
Amount Paid: £428
My final credit card payout.
Went via the FOS, which took 8 months. An offer of £300 was turned down after 6 months had passed, and was quickly followed by an offer for the full amount.
Lloyds TSB response - doubled my credit limit - nice one!!0 -
Provider: Halifax Visa
Amount reclaimed: £208
Amount paid: £211.21
Story:
Requested statements on 26 March, and received them a week later. I wrote back to them on 14th April claiming for £208 which included the interest. Received a letter from them on 25th April saying they accept no liability but offered me £13 (the difference between the £12 charges and some at £20). I wrote back on 30th April saying this was not acceptable but would accept £192 which was the amount of the charges without interest. Received a letter on 17th June saying as a gesture of goodwill they would refund the £193.00 plus interest of £18.21. Total £211.21 to my account.
I am very happy with this and have accepted this method of payment as I intend to pay off the outstanding amout on my card as soon as possible.
Many thanks Martin for all you help and advice:T Great Stuff!!.0 -

Provider: Barclaycard
Amount Reclaimed:£389.46
Amount they paid:£436.32
The story:
Sent a letter on 15 May 2008 with a £10 cheque requesting copies of my statements which I received on 8 June 2008. After totalling up my costs and adding interest I then sent the first letter requesting a total refund of £389.46, received a response with the usual reply " even though we believe the charges are fair and resonable blah blah blah" offering to refund the difference between the £20 charged and £12 of £138.24. Sent a second letter on 24 June stating that I would accept that but would be taking court action to claim the rest. Today I received a letter stating they had added up my charges and they actually came to £436.32 and they would refund the further £298.08 to my account.
Thanks to everyone on here for posting and helping me out, I'd never have had the nerve to do something like this without your support.

hi there my charges were paid back to my credit card. I phoned them and they said I could either have a cheque or they would debit it straight to a bank account. I opted for bank account and it only took 3 working days to transfer0 -
Provider: Lloyds TSB Credit card
Amount Reclaimed: £538.00 plus interest at 8%
Amount they paid: £538.00 plus interest at 5% (bank of eng base rate)
Only took 2 letters (Letter 2 and 3 MSE templates)
First response they offered nothing and second response they offered the lot plus interest at 5% (the bank of england base rate)
Two other claims on the go, waiting on response to Template Letter 3 with both. One of the claims is with Tesco Personal Finance who are playing hard ball having offered only 15% of claim but will persevere and see what happens...next step will be the FOS.
Thanks to MSE and everybody who has posted on this forum :T

Provider: Barclaycard
Amount Reclaimed: £1454.61
Amount they paid:£1251.72
The story:
23/05/08 Sent letter requesting the last 6 years statements.
18/06/08 Received statements, totalled up all charges made, not the just the difference between £12 and the charges made. I used Martin's Charge calculator, and included 8% interest for each.
19/06/08 Sent letter demanding £1454.61 back.
27/06/08 Received offer from Barclaycard for £357.48 inc. 8% interest
This was paid into my Barclaycard account, so it was now in credit by £157.48, which they said they would put into my current account.
28/06/08 Sent second letter accepting part payment without prejudice, but pursuing for the whole amount.
05/07/08 Received letter today with an offer for a further £894.24 inc 8% interest.
Incredible result, and took barely 6 weeks to do from start to finish! My credit card is paid off, I don't care if my account is closed, and I still have over a grand to pay off any other debts. Big thank you to Martin lewis and his team at Money Saving Towers, and also to the people who helped here on the MSE forum.
