Provider: MBNA
Amount Reclaimed: £949 plus £189.10 interest
Amount they paid: £949 plus £189.10 interest
The story:
Wrote on 25th April requesting full repayment plus interest. Got initial reply saying they needed an extra 2 weeks to review then they wrote back on 22/5 and offered £385 which was amount if all fees reduced to £12 - they paid this straight into my dad's account. 2/6 - I wrote to reject and request the full amount or we'd go to court. No response so I wrote again on 30/6 finding out their decision. A letter dated 25/6 arrived yesterday saying they had paid the balance into my dad's account. Thanks Martin!!:T0 -
Provider: Capital One
Amount Reclaimed: £1042.95
Amount they paid: £1148.52
The story....- Requested statements in Feb.
- Sent initial letter in March, received offer of £358.
- Responded to refuse but accept £358 as partial payment without prejudice. (Never received partial payment - apparently Cap1 never do this).
- Wrote to them again in early April to advise I would refer to Finincial Ombudsman.
- Chased case with FO a couple of times & finally received an offer 27th June of £1148.52 via the FO - Capital One of course refsuing any wrong doing but offer of goodwill.
- Responded to accept offer immediately & received a response from FO advising that Capital One are dealing with high volumes & although they agreed it's not ideal, it could take upto 6wks before I receive the money into my account. No doubt they will take the full 6 wks also....
Interestingly enough - i logged onto my account & notice that despite I'm well below credit limit - I have no credit available & have no pending payments!
Big huge enourmous humumgous thanks to Martin & everyone who runs the site for guiding me through getting my loot back!!!! :beer:0 -

Provider: Egg Banking PLc
Amount Reclaimed: £340.66
Amount they paid: £837.28
The story:
After Egg cancelled my card in Feb 08 I Followed Martin instructions, had some real sharply worded letters back telling me that they had been down this road before many times, and had themselves liaised with the FSA who they assured would side with them and that i am wasting my time, then one letter saying they would pay £36 for the period that their charges were £20 instead of the £12 that they are supposed to be and that if I didn't reply within 14 days or continued to used the card they would consider the offer accepted, I again sent a letter from Martin's instructions restating that I wanted £340 or would accept the total sum of the overcharges about £127, got a real nasty letter back saying no and that I should go to the FOS for all the good that that will do you i am sliming this down allot but the letter really made FOS to be less than useless, so that's what I did included all the correspondence between Egg and myself (including the nasty one), list of charges etc... I found FOS to be very very helpful keeping me updated all along the process,
just goes to prove that you have to stand up to these companies.
many thanks to all at moneysavingexpert and FOS

Provider: Halifax Credit Card
Amount Reclaimed: £617.69
Amount they paid: £617.69
Provider: Halifax Current Account
Amount Reclaimed: £3641.06
Amount they paid: Still waiting
The story
It all started off when I read a article in the Times newspaper by Martin back in June 07. Having had loads of charges myself over the years I thought I would give it a go.
I requested statements for both accounts going back 6 years and downloaded the templates for this site.
I sent my first letters for both accounts on the 01.07.07 I then received on the 06.07.07 what I now know as the standard letter regarding the charges, saying that they are fair and so on and so on.
SOD IT !! I thought
Downloaded the second templates and sent them on 16.07.07 I then received a letter on the 01.08.07 for the credit card offering a part payment of £200 I then received a second letter on the 04.07.07 stating all claims have been put on hold till the test case has been heard.
So stupidly I have left it until last month 06/08 to when I was going over my letters when I read on this site that the test case only covered bank charges and not credit card charges.
I sent the next letter on the 12.06.08 stating I was not happy with amount that they offered and I was going to take further action, I did however state I would accept a lower amount of £500 if they responded within 14 days.
I received a letter on the 26.06.08 saying that this matter has been forwarded on to the Customer Relations Department and I will be contacted in due course.
I received a phone call on the 07.07.08 saying they would refund the full amount of £617.69 this amount did include the interest that has
been incured since. which I have accepted :T :T
and has already been credited to my account. :T :T
So I am now waiting on the big one.
I would just like to say THANK YOU to Martin :money: and everyone involed for doing that article in the Times and for setting up this great site..

Provider: MBNA
Amount Reclaimed: £1979.68(charges plus interest of £492.68)
Amount paid: £1979.68
Altogether has taken about 3 months. Offered £461.65, refused and threatened court action. Today received letter saying will pay full amount. This includes all £25 and £12 charges, so anyone trying with MBNA go for all the charges, they will pay out.
Also this was for 2 accounts, one was a Sony Card once owned by Bank Of Scotland, and MBNA paid out on the charges for when it was with them too. So don't let them fob you off with the excuss that the charges were before they owned the card. They take on the debits too.
Provider: EGG
Amount Reclaimed: £657.00
Amount paid; £657.00
Took about a month, sent all three letters, threatened court action. Sent cheque for full amount.
Thanks for all the help from this site0 -
Provider: MBNA
Amount claimed: £750
Amount received: £855!
I've not used the exact figures as my PC crashed and I lost the original letters, but this is the sequence of events.
About 12 weeks ago: Wrote to MBNA asking for details of charges, which I received.
10 weeks ago: Wrote asking for full payment of all charges, together with interest, calculated at a total of approx £850.
5 weeks ago: Received a cheque for just over £200 representing the charges if reduced to £12 each.
4 weeks ago: Banked the cheque and replied asking for the balance, threatening legal action in 28 days. At this point I said I'd accept the figure net of interest if they settled it without me going to court.
Yesterday: Received a letter telling me they were issuing a cheque for the full balance, even including the interest!
Thanks Martin. I used the template letters throughout. Fantastic!0
