  • Provider: Barclaycard
    Amount reclaimed: £380
    Amount paid: £164.16
    Story:
Requested statements at the end of April, and received them after a week. I wrote and posted a letter on May 18 claiming for £380 plus interest. Received a letter from them on 3 June saying they accept no liability but as a good will gesture they will credit me the difference between the current £12 fee and what I was charged = £152.00 + 8% = £164.16. They have credited it to my barclaycard account although since I closed the card down a year ago they have transferred it to my bank. I could have chased up for more money but to be honest I was happy with this.

However, at the same time I sent a letter to EGG with a list of all my old addresses and they duly sent me the complete pack of statements but although they were addressed to me they were my SISTERS. Needless to say she is not too happy with Egg so the story continues...
  • Provider: Barclaycard
    Amount Reclaimed: £602.03
    Amount Repaid: £518.40
    Story:

First template letter sent 20 May, reply received a week or so later offering £259.20, second template letter sent 2 June, revised offer of £518.20, which I accepted. Slight problem in that they credited my now closed Barclaycard account, however easily resolved by another letter and telephone call to confirm bank details. Thank you, Martin for the wonderful guide and template letters.

Capital One (for the mrs) are also about to pay up (more as it happens on that one), Citibank are claiming they've won court cases over credit card charges, but all I can say to that is "bring it on", and MBNA haven't heard from me yet.

To have the boot on the other foot for a change and be the one writing the letters rather than being scared of the postman (and I truly was) is the best feeling in the world. In another month or so I'll be free forever of credit card debt, and will then take my revenge on the aforementioned MBNA... mwahahaha (mad scientist laugh there at the end)

    Amount Claimed: £712.80
    Amount Paid: £712.80

Story: This was dead simple, Sent first letter 20th May claiming £712.80. Got usual reply (our charges are fair etc) and an offer of the difference between the higher charges I had paid and the new £12 charges, the same day i got this letter, my Barclycard account had been credited with £155.52. Sent second letter, not even accepting this offer but merely stated I still wasn't happy and would be taking it to court. Lo and behold, I received a letter yesterday claiming that, after an internal investigation and as a gesture of goodwill, they will refund a further £557.28 and consider the matter closed. Well, Barclaycard, guess what....so do I. :)

So that's Mint and Barclaycard both paid up in full so far, still waiting to hear from Capital One, Citi and GE Money. It's almost been too easy so far.

NB. Barclaycard have dropped my credit card limit from £2800 to £2200 after they have refunded me. Not that this matters, the card was cut up a long time ago....

Amount Claimed £50 ( £25 for MCOL and £25 for charges)
    Amount Paid: £50

A&L had applied a £25 payment charge on my account so I just went straight to MCOL filed the paperwork. A&L's solicitors wrote saying they were going to defend, however a couple of weeks later i received a cheque for the full amount.

Just may need to do it again but I'm adding interest on this time.

I have possibly done something quite foolish! I requested my charges back from Barclaycard late April/early May, and recieved the 'difference' between £12 & £20 late May. However after reading other peoples posts on here i decided to go for the full amount. My problem was i wasn't sure of the exact date that i sent my original letter (as i had stupidly deleted it - now keeping all letters until fully settled!) and was 90% certain of the full amount of the charges that i had requested, however can't be certain that the figure i put was correct. I now know the date was out by a couple of weeks, could this affect my claim for the full amount?? I hope not :( but advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    The Story:
Having Sent Off All The Template Letters From This Site, And A Bit Of Backwards And Forwards, I Eventually Got A Result. Having Gone To The Ombudsman On The 20th April With My Complaint I Received A Reply From Them (29th April) To Say They Were Dealing With My Case And Would Provide Me With A Full Response As Soon As They Could, And Gave Me A Contact Number If I Had Any Further Enquiries.
13th June Received Another Letter From The Fos Saying The Bank Does Not Accept That Its Charges Are Unlawful Or Unfair.(which Seems To Be The Norm). But Following The Intervention Of The Fos It Has Told Them That They Prefer To Settle The Complaint As An Alternative To There Formal Investigation. '' It Accepts No Liability, But Nonetheless Says It Will Pay £700 Plus Interest Of £114.08 To Settle The Dispute''.
I Did Have An Option To Accept The Offer Or If The Offer Falls Short Of What My Claim Was To Refuse. Although It Is Slightly Below £182.38. I Have Decided To Accept The Offer And Look Upon It As £800 I Thought I Would Never See Again.
Many Thanx Again To Martin And All Who Share There Cases On This Site, Without You All I Might Never Have Gone Ahead With My Reclaiming. Good Luck To You All!!!
    UPDATE::::::
27th June, received a letter from FOS saying Capital One are reimbursing my charges, although it may take a while due to high volumes of complaints.
9th July, letter from Capital One saying received signed settlement form from FOS. This has cleared £297.08 outstanding balance and requested a cheque for the remaining refund of £517.00 which I should receive in 21 days.
12th July, Received a cheque for the £517.00. Another credit card company out of my life for good.:j

  • Claimed from Tesco Personal Finance

    Amount Claimed: £180
    Amount they paid: £207.36

    The story:
I originally wrote to Tesco saying that I had been subject to overlimit and late payment charges on my Tesco credit card in early May 2008, and asked for a payment of £60 to my account to remedy the issue (at this stage I had no idea of the amount of charges etc but just wrote to them in the hope they may respond favourably). Got a reply after 10 days saying that the charges applied to my account were in line with the OFT guidelines and as such I wouldn't be gettng any refund. With this letter came a breakdown of the charges applied to my account (totalling £180). Replied with a letter requesting the full amount of the charges, and I was sent effectively the same letter by Tesco, stating that their charges were fair and transparent etc. My next move was to write a letter citing the relevant parts of the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, and requesting that they issue me with their Final Response so that I could take my grievance to an 'independent body' (the FOS).

Well yesterday at 6pm (whilst I was doing a spot of shopping at my local Tesco's!!) I got a call from a Tesco representative who said that Tesco were going to refund me £207.36 for the full amount of the charges plus interest. I checked my account online today and indeed they have done just that.

I currently have outstanding claims of £420 with Capital One (thus far offered £96, and has been referred to the FOS), £522 with Monument (they've offered £261 but i'm pressing for more) and i've just received a Final Response from Natwest over a £180 claim that I plan to register with MCOL.

Thanks for all your help on here, to those going through the same and the admin for developing this site.

  • Hello

I received a letter from MINT yesterday with a cheque enclosed for £16 - they say this for the difference for the two £20 charges incured on my account before April 2006.

    I did ask for £88.00 charges plus £13.61 interest = £101.61

They are saying that the £12 charges are fair and in line with the Office of Fair Trading Standards.

I really want to try and get the rest of the money back but I am a bit stuck. I can't find a template letter for this stage!

    Does anybody have any advice??

I will bank this £16 tomorrow - at least I've got something back! :T
Barclaycard PPI £274.84: Currently with FOS
Barclaycard Fees £226.87: Still being hit with overlimit fees due to BC lowering limit
    MINT £101.61: Accepted offer for £95.05! 17/08/08 :T
Abbey: Waiting for list of charges
