Credit Card Reclaiming Success Stories

  • Sent 1st letter end of April asking for refund of £1900 charges. They responded with an offer of £740 which they credited to my credit card account. I responded, thanking them and saying that I accepted this amount without prejudice to my claim for the full amount, and said that I would be prepared to settle for an additional £1000 (£240 short of original claim). They took their time in getting back to me, and I was just about to send the Ombudsman details - got home from work that night and found letter saying that "as a goodwill gesture" they were refunding the whole of my original claim - just over £1900! Couldn't have wished for a better outcome - credit card account now clear plus some extra money. Now going for Capital One. Don't be deterred - it really is a simple process with this fantastic website's guidance.

    The story:

Applied for statements: 3 April 08
First request for refund: 26 June 2008 (was offered £8 plus 8% interest).
Wrote back on 8 July saying the offer was unsatisfactory but I would except £80 if paid in 14 days.
Received a letter back dated 10 July saying as a gesture of goodwill, they have credited my Barclaycard account with £8.64 & £77.76. This is great as I am gradually paying the balance off although I still have a way to go with this but every little helps!
Thank you Martin :money: and co and everyone on this site for their success stories - they really spur you on to go for it - nothing ventured as they say!
    Cheers all!

    using the letters on here...
first offer was 40, called the ombudsman and they said hsbc needed to send a final letter, so I called HSBC and said the ombudsman had asked for a final letter, so could they send one? they said they'd reconsider their offer and get back to me in 10 working days. They didn't, so I called on monday asking if it was in progress, weirdly my hsbc online card had disappeared from my online banking screen (even though it hasn't been cancelled), and I told them that if I didn't hear from them I would contact the ombudsman for advice on not receiving the final letter. Got a letter in the post today, woohoo :T and thanks Martin :money:
  • Provider: Monument
    Amount Reclaimed: £704.00 plus interest
Amount they paid: £704.00 plus interest

Took 4 letters (Letter 1, 2 & 3MSE templates) and my own fourth letter

First response they said they were looking into my claim...the second response they offered half the charges only. I wrote 2 more letter and got no response so I sent my claim to the FOS. A week after sending my claim to the FOS (who I havent heard from yet) I received a letter from Monument offering all the charges plus interest.:rotfl:

One more claim on the go with Capital One which has been with the FOS for about 5 weeks.

If you look through all the success stories you will see that I have had 4 successes in total and I have received all the charges plus interest on all 4 claims...like many people have said don't accept the first offer or if your like me don't accept anything but the full amount including interest.

Thanks to MSE and everybody who has posted on this forum:T

    The story:

This was so easy thanks to this amazing site.
Wrote a letter with £10 for my statements on the 14th June and got them on the 16th July. Sent a letter asking for £860 (full amount of charges + interest). Noticed on the 21st July they had credited my account with £300 so wrote another letter asking for the full amount or I will take them to court. Exactly a week later they credited my account with the rest of the cash!

Thanks so much Money Saving Expert... now going after Egg and Capital One... banks after that! Oh and I had paid off my Barclaycard before starting the process and have been able to book a ticket to Taiwan with the re-payment cash :) Very happy indeed :)
