    Claimed: £220

    Received: £220 + £33.84 interest

Wrote to Egg asking for the £220. They wrote back with the usual story, their charges are fair etc etc but they were crediting me £12.

Sent them letter 2 on 30 August saying that I wanted the £220 and I'd have the interest too or they were going to court.

Received a letter today to say that they are paying up the £220 plus the £33.84 interest. :j
  • Had some spare time on 28/8/08 so thought why not, give it a go and spent an hour or two trawling through both my husbands and my own Capital One Credit Card Statements. Repectively £180 + interest and £228 + interest was there for the taking. So i used the templates (very easy to use) and with both letters in the same envelope sent my husband to the post box to post. 2 days ago i recieved a "get lost letter" - ive followed and used the template to move it to the next stage. Today my husband received a letter offering him £114 towards his request of £180. He has accepted on the basis of its better than nothing. How interesting is it that he was offered a refund but i was refused at the first hurdle?
  • For those of you that feel like giving up hope on this, DON'T.
It works.. Im pleased to say Halifax are paying us out, still waiting on the money after signing the acceptance letter last week.
We asked for £1700 (without interest as we are suffering financial hardship. After waiting I would say well over a month to hear back we finally recieved the letter last week offering us £2038.:j
As u can see more than we asked for.. so we are well and truly happy.:rotfl:

The first claim was with Natwest it was a year or so back and cant remember exactly what we claimed for but remember we got something like £1400.:)

These amounts aren't huge but we wouldnt of had it at all if it wasnt for MARTIN.
    :T
So I just want to say THANKYOU to him for helping me and others getting back what is lawfully ours.
  • Hello all,
i have been claiming back a total of 4000 quid for what seems an eternity. Now i have entered a letter to the Halifax under the hardship claim. I sent the letter about 2-3 weeks ago and would like to know how long a reply from them should take.
I would appreciate any feedback from successful hardship reclaimers and any advise as to how to push my claim through quicker,
Thank you for reading my plea.
  • Credit Card Halifax
    Amount Claimed £425.19
Amount Received (once I receive cheque) £428.05

08/08/08 Sent 1st claim letter off with list of charges
18/08/08 Received offer back of £169
22/08/08 Replied accepting £169 without prejudice as part payment of £425.19.
09/09/08 Called to check progress. Told it was with Customer Relations Manager and they had until 10th Oct to respond (not my timetable but told they have 8 weeks since intial complaint - even though I made 8 weeks 3rd Oct!). Was told to call back in a week or so to help push it along.
16/09/08 Received full and final offer of £428.05.

I must say that Halifax have handled this complaint extremely professionally and the two members of staff I spoke to over the phone on 09/09/08 were really lovely (I think they hate their employer!). It's just a shame they weren't so helpful when I used to ring them all those years ago after they sent letters and booklets saying to call and they would endeavour to help (ha!)!

Thank you to Martin and everyone else here. The experiences and the advice up on the boards has been truly invaluable and reassuring. I now intend to pursue my other old credit cards.
    Thank you all again! :j
  • Barclaycard - £905 - Full refund inc. interest
Sainsburys - £650 - Full refund inc. interest
Halifax - £270 - Not full amount - I was silly and stopped at first letter stage
    Capital 1 £230 - Ditto!

Martin should get a knighthood! Any common or garden member of the public who thwarted a criminal and handed money back to its rightful owner would get some sort of citizenship award - think of the thousands of people he has been able to help!

I'm delighted to report my success with Sainsbury's credit card people - not mentioned often here so the latest I have is - go to the second letter stage - they will make you wait the full eight weeks from your original letter but in the end you (if my experiences are typical) will get the full amount requested plus interest. I am hoping that they will not simply pay off my balance - I would prefer cash in hand to spend as I choose. Barclays paid off my balance and I felt a little cheated! Not to worry - better off than I was before starting this process. Best wishes to everybody.
  • I just want to say thanks very much to the advice regarding reclaiming credit card charges.

Two months ago I started the process and calculated £510.63 in compensation.

I took the advice and I was offered £150 as a final settlement. Let me tell you..........I stuck my neck out and went for the full amount threatening Court action.........What do you think.........yes they paid out in full (including interest!!)

For others thinking of which way to jump, I took the risk and it paid off......many thanks to Martin (oh yes and Alliance and Leicester Credit Cards)

Yippee I got my cash back
  • i tried to get some
    :starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod::starmod:
  • Why dont you do 2nd letter accepting first offer without prejudice, you will still get the first amount as that is what they have offered you.

Dont give up now - lots of people on this site have recovered full amounts
by sending 2nd letter all it cost is a stamp!

    Good luck;)
  • Afternoon everyone, Been reclaiming credit card charges from Lloyds TSB, since April this year, got the standard get lost replies, I asked them to again look into my case, or give me a final response. Anyway this morning received their final response, saying they are refunding £347.15, taking this amount off my credit card balance, so I'm well chuffed. Only took 4 letters from start to finish, keep at it everyone, you'll get there in the end.
