I tried claiming my recent bank charges back from Barclay's but they told me where to go basically, they wouldn't refund anything.....so i thought maybe the credit cards might be a better option?

I can’t offer any advice about Cap 1 other than they are known to be a bit rigorous with defending any card charges.

As for your Barclaycard Credit Card, I wrote to them about a month ago complaining about the sheer number of charges they put on my account during 2011. I didn’t have any statements for the previous 5 yrs, nor did I send them a £10 subject access request. I requested they refund all the charges plus interest at their APR % and without any further correspondence or ping ponging of letters they replied and supplied a list of all the charges going back to 2006. The also agreed to repay £1200 which covered the balance with a little left over!

So get writing and don’t bother with a SAR …see what happens and it only cost me .50p for the stamp
  • Can I claim back PPI and Charges on a credit card at the same time? Should all the info be included on the same letter?

I need to request my statements so I can work out exactly how much to claim. (it's Lloyds by the way!)

    Thank you.
  • Hi All, just a quick reply to tell you that my finacee and I have just had some great news about our claim for PPi Insurance. We had two cards with the PPi's and we are to recieve approximately £2000 back from Lloyd's Bank. :j
A very big Thank You to Martin and his team for putting together a simple format of dealing with the application letters.
It did however take up to twelve weeks but we didn't care lol
Thanks again Martin and team, keep up the excellent work.:T

I'd do your claims separately to avoid risk of confusion and because it may be different departments that deal with each
(not sure though sorry, never had any ppi experience)

Don't request your statements specifically as they may charge you huge fee. Go on MSE site, it's all on there how to go about it all inc. template letters, interest calculator etc. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com

    I waited about a fortnight.
  • amount claimed £660 + £130 interest

Full payment noe offered by MBNA!!!!

    Hi
I treid to claim back just the £12 charges from MBNA total over £660 plus £130 in interest.

I went through all the letters on this site, and got nowhere with MBNA, they refused to pay anything.

so i thought that was it - last month a wrote to the FOS on the off chance they might look at this for me (i know they say they do not look at the £12 charges).

anyway got a letter in the post this morning from the FOS, saything that MBNA have agreed to a full refund, plus interest!!!!!!!!!!

Just goes to show, you have to try everything with them - DO NOT GIVE UP PEOPLE!:T
  • Hi All

Great to read all the success stories on here. It has got me back onto something I started over 2 yrs ago when i wrote 2 letters to MBNA to reclaim PPI and charges. Both letters were posted by recorded delivery in Oct 2009 and were delivered but I never got any response!!

So I rang MBNA today to ask for the exact address I should write to given that no-one replied to my 2 previous letters. The guy apologised and assured me that MBNA will now deal with this so I sent another letter today to reclaim charges (one step at a time) and if I have any luck with this I'll follow it up with a letter reclaiming the PPI charges.

Any advice from anyone re: MBNA would be really appreciated. Thanks

    Just a quick update.
Still no word from MBNA so rang today to ask if they'd received my letter. After speaking to 2 different staff at length I was finally told the complaint had been registered on their system and they'd issued an acknowledgement letter on 1st March. Turns out they sent it to an address we've never lived at!! Said they'd now re-send letter to correct address. Whilst on phone told them I also wanted to reclaim the PPI as it was missold to me - I never needed it as I always had other cover. They registered that & told me they had 8 weeks to deal with this and I replied I was aware of that but almost 4 wks have passed and I've heard nothing! Huuuuummmmmmmmm
  • After getting £1136 back from Tesco and £560 back from Mint, both for overlimit and late fees, I contacted MBNA about the fees I had paid:

    Claimed - £442 (includes 8% interest)

Recieved £38 and a letter saying thats all I was was getting. I then sent another letter saying I was going to take them to court, and they wrote back offering me.......

    Recieved - £937!!!:T

Not exactly sure why they gave me so much.

    Now onto Halifax....

I am over the moon! All £12.00 charges plus interest. Used the letter template and interest calculator from this site. They say they will pay off the tiny amount on my credit card and send the rest as a cheque.

I am going to use the cheque to make an overpayment to my mortgage :money:

Thank you all the MSE posters for your help and encouragement! :j
