    Hi All

Thanks for all the great replies!

Managed to get hubby to take me yesterday about 5.30'ish and TBH wasnt very impressed  Maybe i was unlucky on this occasion.

First problem was my wheelchair and getting on there..lol. Boxes everywhere, hubby pushing me and daughter pushing trolley.

Anyway, bought most items (also a few extras :o ). There was no fruit or veg by the time i went. I spent £31.00 which IMO seemed alot for what I got, especially as that included no fruit, lamb mince, veg or salad. So will have to spend at least another £10-£14. Hubby & daughter put a few things in trolley, but these couldnt of cost more than about a fiver!

Personally, I thought these items were good value:

    Medium Cheddar £1.89 500g
Black Bags £0.49 20 strong ones
    Dishwasher tablets £1.79 for 30 (3 in 1)
    Jaffa Cakes £0.59 Double pack
    Spagetti Hoops £0.11
Baked Beans £0.15 seem nice and thick
Own brand Utterly Butterly £0.59 500g
    Rice pudding tin £0.15
Cup soups £0.35 for pack of 5
    Sunflower oil £0.44 1 litre
    Honey Ham £1.19 250g
Meatballs £0.35 large tin (hubby likes these-yuk!)
    lemonade £0.19 2 litres
    Biscuits all under £0.25 packet
Dog Food In Tube £0.29 (enough for 3 meals)
Dog Mixer 4kg £1.19 Very Cheap!
    Kettle Crisps £0.49 Treat
    Bodingtons £2.29 for 4 tins (normally £3.50-treat)
    Cottage cheese £0.39 medium tub

Think I will stick with Asda for main shop, then maybe every 3-4 weeks stock up on cheddar, ham, dishwasher tabs, tinned items(beans, butterbeans, spagetti, meatballs, toms etc)biscuits.

I saw the mozarella for £0.49 in a squishy bag but had a short date on it and as I have never cooked with it before, thought Id leave it till I know how to make the pizza base

The quality of most food items looked very good, but was abit gutted that there was no fruit, veg, salad or minced lamb. I did buy a packet of chicken burgers to see what they were like and had a chicken breast meat content of 97% which is excellent-think the other 3% was made up of breadcrumbs etc.

    Thank you all so much

If you have a Netto nearby then try their frozen mince - 99p for a packet and nicer than LIDL's IMO, they also have turkey breast sometimes (but not all the time) which is much cheaper. Otherwise I love most of LIDL's food, I try to keep away from the icecream now as it's deadly. They also have caviar on occasion for around £2 which is a bargain. I think the products which aren't value-added (eg. the ready meals) are better quality and value.

They do a pack of croissants filled with chocolate, they have a picture of a bear on the packet (aimed at kids but I don't care!) These are delish!

Think you were unlucky with the fruit and veg as it's normally delivered daily and i've never had a problem getting any.

Maybe it was during the week where they have half price fruit and veg or maybe your lidl has bigger amount of fresh shoppers

    Shamish :)
  • Ive been down a few times since my last post and fruit/veg have been excellent and even better with 50% off..LOL.

Have started stocking up at Aldis for tinned items as I find them slightly nicer, but they may just be me.

Bit late to this one but things I buy in Lidl are:

Tomato products - tinned, puree, passata. Tinned toms are 13p/can and are far better quality than the equivalent Tesco value brand
Honey - bargain. 500g for £1.30? I think. I go through honey like it's going out of fashion for my porridge.
Jaffa cakes, like others have said - especially the raspberry one
Juices - we get the mixed fruit with 11 added vitamins. Not sure what it's called but we call it Superjuice!
    Cured meats - salami etc.

Cheese - for us this is the big winner. We love continental cheeses and Emmenthal, Comte and Gruyere are far cheaper here than anywhere else in the UK. Parmesan is also cheap and v good quality.

I would like to try the olive oil but I've only seen extra virgin on sale here - I cook with plain old olive oil.

Our nearest Lidl is about 8 miles away - I wish it were closer!

    Have fun!

 hmph, after reading this thread yesterday we went to our nearest lidl last night for a look (we hadn't been before). I've just checked the receipt and we have been overcharged by £2.97 - we have been charged for 7 shower gels - when we only bought one and we have been charge for a carrier bag when we had taken our own (after reading this thread...) so now I'm going to have to drive back to reclaim our money - although it will cost fuel - what a pain! - I do hope they are nice about it as I don't suppose I can prove that I didn't buy a carrier bag or 7 shower gels.

Their razors with packs of 20 blades are excellent. Seem to last better than some of the better known brands (e.g. Gillette) and only £2.49 including the free handle.

    £2.97 ... hardly worth a coronary ;)
