I've been really confused by the Barclays Pin Sentry process. My husband and I operate two joint current accounts with them, both of which are set up to access via internet banking. My husband was sent a pin sentry card. I wasn't. So he has to use the pin sentry reader when setting up a new payment customer via internet banking on one of these accounts. I recently made two payments to new customers via internet banking on the other joint account and did it without the use of the pin sentry mechanism, even though I've been allocated a separate internet banking account number. Consequently I'm unsure how our accounts are much more protected as a result of this process.0

Well I have never received a letter from Barclays re PIN Sentry. Tried to transfer money only to be told cant do this without machine! DONT HAVE ONE!!!!! Phoned BBank useless cant do transfer online without pin machine. ASked to speak to manager was told they would book in a time for me to speak to manager in 20 minutes. Said I would greatly anticipate phone call explaining why my account has been upgraded without me having equipment to use account - "oh no we cant phone customers we are an online banking service you will have to be on hold for 20 minutes!" NOW I KNOW HOW BARCLAYS ARE GOING TO GET THEMSELVES OUT OF FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES!!0

I just want to add that if you are a Premier banking customer there is no way that they will reverse this and you are forced to use PINsentry
I know as I have just spent ½ hour on the phone to Barclays asking to be removed from this ridiculous method only to be told that as a Premier banking customer it is compulsory and cannot be changed. Not a happy bunny.
Interesting this... I am concerned that my mum still hasn't received hers, and she tends to leave it to me to do stuff when I come to visit... but she's not a premier customer, so that might explain why she hasn't got it yet!- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

Having been caught out again without the device I had another grumble to the PINsentry help-desk, this time they instantly offered me a second PINsentry device conceding that a lot of people who travel/work are inconvenienced by not having the PINsentry with them.
Also confirming what was said earlier... if you hold a regular "Personal" account they will revert you to the old scheme upon request, however they seem to have a policy which prevents them from doing this for "Premier" customers. I suspect it's all just part of a staged roll out, for now its compulsory for Premier+Business customers.0 -
Joined Barclays in 1964 - leaving Monday (tomorrow). Mislaid Pin Sentry - would cost £6.00 to replace. I am going to find a better bank! I also suspect that the gadget is more secure for the sake of Barclays and Visa rather than the customer. Complete nuisance when you travel with a laptop and use a desktop - a stupid additional problem I can do without.
Thanks Money Expert - will now get decent interest on my current account when I move.0
