  • Pah. Show me a woman who doesn't have a handbag like a bloody tardis and I'll eat my hat. I'm sure if you moved the lippy, eyeshadow, hairspray to one side, you could fit in the pin sentry device quite easily

    (*runs for cover*)

LOL!! To be fair, i could fit it in, but to be honest I have my own reasons for leaving Barclays and it isn't the PINsentry issue.

In my handbag the the moment I have my purse, hairbrush and my timetable foe the gym....other then that I don't really do make-up!! But I know where you're coming from...huge bloody handbags! Not me...just phone and keys get thrown in on the way out! (Unless you leave the keys in your front door and some nice person decides to rob them...yeah...last night...total cost of new barrel cylinders-£42...ouch) God bless Mastercard...always there in a crisis!

Okay, totally off subject there...i'll shut up now!
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!

My wife has so many handbags, she needs a bag to keep them in.

She can't understand why I find that fact hilarious
  • I got through to the Coventry call centre after a world tour of them. I was then told that as a Premier Banking customer I could NOT have PINsentry removed without losing ALL the ability to do any on-line banking.

All I want is to log on as I used to and make payments to existing people as I used to. Fair enough if I want to make new payments then I could use the machine, no problem, as that is not very ofetn.

Apparently for "normal" customers this is possible but for "Premier" ones it is not. The Premier Banking managers have decided I am told.

Come on Barclays use some common sense - even set a threshold where it must be use or something but for ordinary viewing of accounts it is silly.
  • I have just received the PinSentry today. I tried to add a new payee onto the account and received the message that this was required. Okay I thought, got a similar process and ‘calculator’ with my RBS account, no problem.

Having tried to use it today, I now find, unlike RBS, you have to use it every time you want online banking, MADNESS. My pockets are used for my wallet, mobile, keys and loose change. Where am I meant to keep this lump of plastic?

Okay, you can bypass this by taking another option of the front screen, ‘Do not have my PinSentry’. However you have to fill in several fields with other information of your Debit card and you have a ‘temporary’ access for 2 weeks, after which you have to logon with the card reader and I assume go through the whole process to bypass it again!

It had taken my 30 seconds to dislike the system and then having looked at the alternatives taken another 2 minutes to really dislike the system.

I have rang up Barclays and asked for it to be removed. They are telling me it is the most secure system, well in some way they are correct. If you loose the will to use it, then it’s unlikely anything can go wrong, however for usability it is an inept system.

I also have a HSBC key fob number generator (corporate account) which you have to use each time. Another alternative.

Whilst tightening up security definitely has its merits, they have gone over the top with the system that is also used by RBS (the calculator), but have not gone for a user-friendly method like HSBC. I would assume this is down to cost!!!!

Well what does the future hold for my Barclays Online Banking?
I have lost the ability to add new payees, Well, I will just have to use my telephone banking facility. How much more does that cost them in administration costs in the long run, especially if other customers follow suit.
  • Am I the only one who doesn't mind the new PINsentry system?

I've been using it since the beginning of the year and while it does take a bit longer and yes, carrying the piece of plastic around could be a pain, I feel a lot safer knowing that someone would have to have my card, my pin AND the PINsentry machine to gain access into my account.

Mind you, carrying it around with me is not an issue. I'm not one of those people that needs to look at my account multiple times a day. I check it a couple of times a week at home and if I ever go away for a long trip then I sort my finances out before I go.
PROUD TO HAVE DEALT WITH MY DEBTS
  • Banked with Barclays so long I am a disgrace to MSE, so how come I know nothing about PINsentry, just been online and I can set up payments to new people and everyfink!

I feel really left out and I am going to sulk, or perhaps not, anyone care to enlighten me, should I want PINsentry?
If anything I say starts to make sense, PANIC!

I dont mind it either, had mine for a couple of months and it doesnt take me any longer to log in than before. I like the ever changing code and it makes me feel safer online.

I log on maybe once or twice a fortnight to pay bills etc and only use it at home so dont have the need to carry it around with me.

Just had a quick read through this thread. I've avoided paying anyone new since I learned that this would prompt the PINSentry thing. Survived a year so far!

But having just read (on dannyo's post) that you can get access without the reader, and keep doing so for two weeks without needing to use the PINSEntry, well, that doesn't strike me as too arduous.

I don't fancy carrying it around with me but I understand you can order a second one (for which you have to pay, but hey ho). That wouldn't be too bad as I could keep it locked in my drawer at work. I don't bank online anywhere except at home or at work.

So I guess it won't be too bad when I eventually have to succumb. But I'd rather not. I can see Barclays' side though. The amount of people who happily stick their login details into websites from phishing emails is scary.

I couldn't use a dongle at work as we're not allowed to stick unauthorised equipment into the PCs. Which is fair enough I think. That would preclude me from checking my statement at work. Which is all I use it for most of the time. (Online banking I mean, not my work PC! ;-)
  • Having been a long time Barclays customer, I was recently forced to acquire the Pinsentry device in order to set up a new payee online; what a total disaster!
Wholly inconvenient and takes away the point of online banking, I wouldn't have minded so much if you only needed to use the gigantic device in order to setup a new payee, but to have to use it everytime you wish to login is an utter shambles!
I've decided to carry out my online banking with another bank as having to use Pinsentry on every login is way OTT in my opinion.
  • Actually, I find it more convenient. To me it takes the same amount of time as before, and I don't have a problem carrying it around. It's certainly quicker than trying to get into Co-op Bank, Egg, and so on.

I quite like the little plastic thing. I thought I'd hate the whole thing, but I do feel more secure with it than before. So no problem for me. I've also got one for NatWest, but not used that yet.
