But at what age does living with parents become ridiculous?

There is no fixed age and it would be ridiculous to try and establish one. We are all individuals and it therefore depends on the people involved.

I am 55 - my parents are in their 80's and fortunately in great health both physically and mentally. We have a fantastic relationship and, if circumstances made it necessary, I could easily live with them tomorrow and it wouldn't be an issue for any of us.

On the other hand, I know lot of people for whom that would be an impossible situation.

You can't make a hard and fast rule for this kind of thing.

Many actors have chosen to stay with their parents. A fast google will give a list.
Bradly Cooper for example stayed with his Mum because her husband passed away. I don't think he has been short of female attention.
Plus of course it does not seem to have affected his career.

I think you are discussing a different topic

    I said

''having parents subsidize your lifestyle beyond 30 years old is insane''

I don't think Bradleys mum is paying his bills for him - the bloke is a super hot millionaire who has chosen to stay with his mother out of compassion - it is more likely he is helping her financially than the other way round
like I say, a completely different topic really - we are really talking about people who stay so their parents can subsidise their lifestyles

I'm sure his status as a multi-millionaire highly famous actor probably helps with the female attention. Think he'd be as successful if he was a nobody in an average job?

Also no one has suggested in this topic living with parents would affect job prospects, just relationship prospects. There are things which make finding a partner much easier and others that make it much more challenging. It's clear that living with your parents well into adulthood will make finding a partner much more difficult. As I've already said if the person is fine with this then it's no issue but they can't really complain about how difficult it is to find a partner without considering the reasons why.
  • Could you just imagine super Hollywood megastar Bradley Cooper sitting down with his microwave dinner that his mum made him ro watch Eastenders or whatever in her tiny council flat?

Not sure what reality Pearl123 is living in comparing Bradley Cooper to some friendless, no prospect, overwight loser being looked after by their mum while they're in their 40's.

If bradleys mum ever gets sick of him, he can come live with me

Why would someone living with a parent be, friendless, have no prospects or be overweight?
  • I don't know, maybe their mum treated them too much like precious little cherub when they were growing up. Who knows?

This reminds me of a really creepy guy I used to work with. He was almost like a cartoon character

I'm not saying that all people living with parents in middle age are like that, but this guy was something else

He was in his early 50s and his mum used to do his washing. He used to talk about waiting to inherit to his life could begin and he would own his own house at long last.

Overweight, friendless and I don't think he had ever had a girlfriend. He blamed this on his mother being alive.

He was quite eagerly waiting for their parents to die

I think that folks tend to do what they choose/ or need to do for the best....and I for one, think its up to them how they live their lives.
Until you've walked in their shoes, don't judge.

I wouldn't date someone living with their parents.....but thats because I am picky, and I know it!
