Time goes by at speed as usual. This afternoon there was a rare window of time and sunshine so I made the most of it. The veg plot is now rotavated and ready for planting, and I transplanted three raspberries into a more accessible space. They were at the back of the patch being choked by brambles and ivy coming under the fence from next door so losing this years crop isn't such a hardship. I've got strawberries to plant out too but they can stay in the tunnel safely for now. I notice one is flowering already so i may plant a few in the tunnel beds for early fruiting.
I also made bread (with fresh yeast, was best loaf yet) and made pizza for dinner with DS1. Much nicer than the shop bought ones we have been having.
I am shattered now, and remembering why I am meant to be taking it easy. Trouble is time in the garden doesn't feel like a chore. if i was cleaning I'd recognise my exhaustion point far soonerMy mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Doesn't gardening count as rest?
Maybe that's where I've been going wrong...0 -
This week we changed the older car. It has to meet certain criteria for the car allowance, was out on age so it had to be done. I'm not sure when spending became such a painful exercise.
A major purchase was planned, budgeted and saved for out of the allowance provided, but it still really hurt to part with that pile of gold. It's not like it was earning any real interest but I will miss its general comforting presence. We still have the emergency fund and the tax bill pot, and the start of the next car pot but my pile of gold is sadly diminished and this little dragon is rather sad as a result.
It's actually harder spending real money than it used to be taking out finance in the bad old days of spending.
Need to rebuild the pots which means easing off on the pension and mortgage big overpayments for a bit. I've got a bit complacent with spending (tired and busy equals expensive convenience sometimes) and not reclaiming everything I could. The business owes me a couple of months mileage and ten months of expenses, I just need to actually fill in the spreadsheet and pay myself. That would be a good start.
Nipped into tiny Asdar on the way to a meeting today and got 20p spring greens/carrots/parsnips and clearance cat food pouches at half price which is good.
Still no non bio washing stuff in liddle so will have to crack and try Fairy which we used to use years ago. Hope they haven't changed the formula. I vividly remember the day nursery sent a boy home wearing emergency underpants that had been washed in biological stuff. I can imagine that this would be even more traumatic at 16
Trying to minimise non essential spending so of course got stuck on M way, late back and chip shop dinner. I did at least microwave a tin of mushy peas.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Always painful to part with savings, still that's what they're there for. My mum always used to swear by Fairy.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

I know how you feel about the savings but it sounds like the new car was a bit of a must buy. And the car had been totally budgeted for so more debt hanging around in the background for months.
I last used Fairy when I was with the ex who was allergic to bio stuff. He swore by it too. Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

No, they are to look at and lovingly polish every day :rotfl: OH feels the same about the car, so at least I feel like it is still appreciated.Bath time reading for dragons...
I use Ecover, Bio D or other eco brands from the health food shop and they are both non-bio and unscented (it's the stuff they put in . to make it smell that I react to - and the smell gives me headaches).
Thanks, great books.
Think the smell is part of it, but Fairy I can get in the village co-op in the morning. Before the boys run out of underwear. Smelly teenage boys *shudders*Seasidegal58 wrote: »I know how you feel about the savings but it sounds like the new car was a bit of a must buy. Yes, think most people with car allowances at my place and his have one on lease, but at least this way we have spent a fixed sum and haven't added to the outgoings. I used to look after the car scheme in a previous role and it was always a pain with leases and gap insurance and what we could cover.
I have driven past a village called Bagthorpe a few times in recent weeks and couldn't think why it rang a bell. It's finally hit me, Bagthorpe Saga. Was it Helen Cresswell, and one of the books was absolute zero?the dog might have been called Zero. Time to do some searching. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I assume you don't mean the village in Norfolk? I grew up near there
But I'm guessing there are others.
Now you've mentioned the smell of teenage boys, I think you should invest in lots of scented candles and drench yourself in perfume daily to keep it at bay... And get fairy first thing tomorrow!
I had a debate about the car today as it cost me rather a lot, but it's still been less over the 4 years I've had it than it would have cost to have a new car with a warranty and service plan when you take depreciation rates into account. A long discussion with the garage, and if it can keep going without too much major expense for another two years then I should be able to replace it with an electric car. And I should also by then have managed to stuff a whole lot of money into my pension, finish the house and save up for a new car. It's the inconvenience as much as the unplanned expense (and I'm still trying to cashflow the costs rather than take them out of savings) - I'm hoping that all the new tech they put in cars will lead to predictive maintenance so the car can realise it needs work in a week or so, check my diary, book itself in for the work, let me know it has done it and arrange for itself to be collected and returnedThen I might start liking cars and thinking they were worth the vast amount of money they make disappear.
