Some great blind and paint bargains there. Buying house stuff is a never-ending expense unfortunately.

  • We don't have any blinds in the kitchen. It's a minimal look, but really because we can't afford them :rotfl:.

We did buy some window film for the french doors in the dining section so that our neighbours can't see into our kitchen. It was about £25 from Am@zon and covers the top third of the glass. We're really pleased as it lets light in but gives us our privacy :). You could get patterned film, but we chose a stone blasted effect as it looks the most minimal.

The blinds have not made it up yet. We were supposed to have visitors so the weekend was spent cleaning and cooking, only for them to cancel by which time neither of us was in the mood to sort it. We have six weeks till the pet sitters arrive, plenty of time yet.

Downstairs is a lot better in the 'surface tidy' sense but there is still a huge amount to do. Food shopping done, just need to put the dry goods away and then crack on

£1.65 of PA surveys done, and the usual plate spinning on SBs.

Some tidying of our bedroom done, and yet again the reminder that I own a faintly ridiculous number of jumpers. Old swimming kit has exited the building, and the new stuff is now in with the vac packed holidays only stuff to keep it safe from marauding moths.

Mince defrosting for meatballs in a spiced tomato sauce with pasta for the boys, and with courgette ribbons for OH. I'll be having something, currently unidentified. I don't like mince, or pasta, or cooked tomatoes.

Great blind-buying there Redo! The recommendations for curtains are good too - I'm a bit of a fan of Dune7m for that sort of stuff - the blinds for the kitchen and bathroom both came from there I think, and I know all our current lot of bathroom towels and mats did.

I couldn't live with WilliamMorris type designs either I don't think - it'd make me feel as though the walls were closing in on me!

  • That's infuriating when you have a frenzy of tidying, cleaning and cooking, and then your visitors cancel . At least the house is clean though and perhaps you can freeze some of the food.

Exactly, it was so very busy and fussy everywhere and stuffed to the roof with ornaments when we looked round.

They had previous form for cancelling so I had deliberately planned around freezer and packed lunches just in case so nothing was wasted.

Already quite sore today so I decided to add sore arms and hands into the mix, as you do. Our family bathroom has been a bit of an issue for a while. One of the few rooms that has been done, as I spend a lot of time in the bath. A shared facility until we sort our en suite, so it has a walk in shower and a short bath. Half panelled in pale wood, pretty mosaic tiles in a stripe round the shower, etc and a delicate blue/green bathroom paint on the window wall. It used to be lovely, but over time it has got grottier and grottier. We cleared the mould and re-painted a couple of years ago but it just comes back, despite the extractor fan. I was convinced the problem was the person who took ridiculously long (and expensive) showers, and who didn't always put the extractor on as I found when I came back from work early and found the walls dripping.

Anyway SS has moved out and after a few months of short showers, dehumidifier, etc the walls are dry, and the situation has improved. My plan today was to just bleach the worst of the mould off the window wall but actually whole sections came off in my hand so I've stripped the paint back to bare plaster. Nice, dry, flat plaster with no mould :)
  • That's good news re the bathroom mould. I'm glad extractor fans actually work for when we get one one day :rotfl:
