Greenbee I did check for cat damage but there wasn't even fur in the vents, never mind teeth marks on the cable this time. Not that she has many teeth.

Hurrah, they did indeed have the long ochre blind at £6 so that was purchased, and the olive and teal ones returned for a refund. Total spend of £2 on the spare bedroom, £12 top hall and £10 on the kitchen blinds. Pleased with that.

I have enough fabric in hand (bought at £1/metre) for OH to make new curtains for downstairs (2 sets DR, 2 sets Snug, 1 set and patio door x LR, 1 X front door and middle hall window), and enough thermal liner and curtain tape. Should be enough leftover to cover some cushions too. Upstairs needs a few replacing too, but I do have spare sets for the boys badly faded ones (4 pairs of plain blue bought on offer, and the spares stored till now) which would be better for some linings that OH can make. Only really our room that has a problem after that so will see what fabric is left over. Maybe its an excuse to buy those cushions and theme our bedroom from them :o Or I could try and re-purpose the living room cream ones if I can get them clean enough.

Buy the cushions redo! You made fabulous savings on the blinds. All those blinds still cost less than half of the blind we had to have made for Star Child's bedroom (damn sash windows).

With Mr Star out of the house this weekedn i'm hoping to have a sprice up in the house.

We had new dining table and chairs delivered earlier this month (yes I said new...actual house stuff that wasn't given to us or purchased from some old dear on Gumtree) the table has a glass top so all the junk dumped in the dining room is 100% visable and it makes me hate the space.

A good old hoover and wash of the walls. touch up the paint and hunt for new curtains. Again struggling to buy off the peg because of our lovely Georgian high ceilings. I need to look at getting a summer duvet for the guest room too as it is getting used a lot over the coming months. all costs will be from the joint account.

Must take stuff to the charity shop tomorrow too. I have a big bag of clothes and Star Child has a big bag of soft toys to donate.

A thorough hoover is needed too. including pulling suitcases (and snowboards ) out from under the beds and scrubbing the skirting.

what fun lives we lead :rotfl:

Starmummy - have a look and see if you have a curtain exchange near you. I got fabulous curtains for my Georgian house when I lived in London - far better quality that I could have afforded otherwise.

I know starmummy but I'm very conscious that I haven't done any 'proper' income earning work for a while so my spending has to be needs and not wants. OH earns enough for bills but I have to earn anything extra and its just dribs and drabs atm. I have made roman blinds before for odd shaped windows but bespoke curtains and blinds are silly money aren't they?

I've defrosted some chicken bits so it'll be the thai green curry later, served with the first of the home grown courgettes from the poly tunnel.

I've ordered a SBs voucher, and cashed out on PA. There have been a few more available today but ones that involve installing software/apps or hideously long so I haven't done them. I'm not keen on either :o

I'm doing the 15 minutes per room thing ahead of visitors at the weekend. Its amazing just how much junk gets left downstairs, and the solution is not to just dump it in their rooms. I wish I could convince everyone else to declutter actually, it would make things much easier.

  • I still have a dead microwave on my patio, complete with fat cat snoring on top.

I love sourcing and buying household stuff! When I was a kid I always wanted to be an interior decorator :rotfl: Sounds like you got a good deal on the blinds... I clicked on the art deco one and think I may have fallen in love with it. I know it's not what you've gone for but I've now decided I will have that blind in my future home one day!! :p

It might be worth checking costs for bespoke curtains with the chain stores. I made the mistake of asking a posh curtain shop when I first moved out of the city and nearly laughed in their faces, but my kitchen curtains from Dune7m weren't hideous considering I would have paid for the materials anyway and the chances of me ever finding time to do them were nil. I looked at a N3xt quote to get the living room ones sorted and that would have been doable too.

The fitted blind for the bathroom (also Dune7m) was silly extra money but means the windowsill is usable so worth it to me.

Yes she has that kind of bulk but is black. Her entire life is about sleeping, and finding somewhere to have a quick snooze before her next sleep. Best of all is sleeping on me so she follows me round shouting 'sit down' a lot.

I really liked it, but not for this house. There was a lot of William Morris stuff when we moved in but the busyness killed me and it had to go.

I agree, I was shocked at what MIL paid her 'little man' for over embellished floral curtains, the store made to measure are far better price wise. I'm lucky that OH can sew and is happy to do them if I cut them out. I can do that bit, but can't sew straight or get the tension right so its a good team effort.
We have blinds in a few of the darker/smaller rooms at the back where curtains would be too bulky and would block even more light.

The chicken got used on a cobbled together chicken in white/wine mushroom combo in the end. It was ok but not a keeper of a recipe.

It finally rained, so hard that my washing got soaked in the few minutes it took for me to notice. I don't care, the veg plot was desperate for it and I thought I was going to have to crack and get the hosepipe out tomorrow. Still need to water the tunnel but there should now be some free water in the butts.

Chucked it down all day here too. I'd love a veg plot but it's our first year trying to be gardeners lol

I have blinds... they've been here since January. I just need to get them up!

I also need to sort out water butts before next year.

Oh, and the utility room, kitchen and front and back doors... ideally before winter!
