Still no exchange date. All I keep hearing is "we're still working towards completion on 8th" which is less than a week away. Apparently exchange will be "just before" - is that the day before or an hour before?! No one seems to know. The solicitors haven't even asked for our deposit funds which can take a day to clear.
Does anyone know if they will need authority from both me and my partner to exchange? We both work jobs that means we can't be by the phone all the time so could easily miss the calls.0 -

Hi, new to this thread but want to know do solicitors take notice of the property info forms which ask when you want to complete. I am in a chain of 4. My buyer recently changed solicitors as the mortgage offer was dependent on them being on the lenders panel. My solicitors took a week to find out the file was sent over to new solicitor. Further up the chain the house my vendor is buying are waiting for searches which were only asked for in middle of Feb.
my mortgage offer is expiring and latest date to complete is March 31st. My vendor’s EA is trying to get info but meets with just can’t guarantee when searches will come back and my solicitor although seems to be responsive cannot work any faster with my purchase everything has to follow their process before I can review the report.
can they not all get on a Zoom call and sort things out so they all know dates we want to complete by?
Sorry for the rant but extremely frustrated, I have been trying to move since July 2020.0 -
@e93 my solicitor emailed me yesterday to ask for authority to exchange, can you look at your emails at work? I responded giving authority, and he emailed back to say he'd contacted the vendor's solicitor and would let me know. I've sent the deposit through, and have the buildings/contents insurance in place, as completion is 11 March.
Didn't happen yesterday, hasn't happened today. I don't know whether to chase it, or just sit it out.£216 saved 24 October 20140 -

Start of Sept - offer accepted from FTB
Mid Sept - offer on onward purchase
Two days later - vendors change mind and decide not to sell at all.Start of Oct - offer on new house accepted, told their are tenants currently who will vacate before or just after Christmas, but 6 month notice is end of Feb. We decide to take the gamble and chain complete.Lots happens between then and Christmas, mortgages sorted, enquiries raised and answered.Jan - solicitor reports on purchase and sends contracts for signing. More enquiries from buyers. Tenants clearly not vacating before end of notice.Start of Feb - buyers enquiries are all satisfied, we are all ready to go subject to tenants leaving. We were told they would leave mid feb, that’s been revised to end of feb now so thinking there may be an issue there. We’ve decided we will sell regardless of the tenant situation as our buyers have been so patient, so we’re preparing to go into temporary accommodation alongside hopefully purchasing our new house.I’ll be hanging around here enjoying all your good news stories for a while! Now we can crazily pack and clean the rest of the house ready to complete on the 9th.Congrats!!! I bet you'll have the best nights sleep tonight.I literally would have been on the exact same timeline as you, and should have been exchanging today too! 🤷♀️I guess I'll see you again on the home DIY/ mortgage free wannabe section of this forum in a few months 😁

Been watching this thread for a while and can finally join in. We sold our house in August, broke the chain to accommodate our buyers and then our onward purchase fell through the week before Christmas because of problems uncovered with the property very close to exchange.
We’ve been living with family since and just need our own space ASAP. All of the legal work completed yesterday on our side but it’s hard getting an answer as to what shape our onward chain is in. Here’s hoping for a March completion anyway.1
