Me and my other half are on completely different pages when it comes to packing.... I can't get over how much stuff we have, whereas he thinks we'll get it all in the back of a self drive ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

This is SO like me and my other half, he always seriously underestimates how much stuff we have, and also timings... he reckons we can get everything moved, new place redecorated and the rental cleaned and repainted (where needed), in a weekend.ย  I think he's totally wrongย  :D

you will almost definitely exit with some random things......we packed the whole house up in good time for the sale of our old house, furniture was dismantled etc a week before exchange (as dates kept getting pushed back) and on the day we left my car was full of random things I kept discovering in the week between exchange & completion....including a swimming float, wellies & a case of wine! I actually did a skip run after I had left the property too despite being convinced we had decluttered effectively! Half of the stuff I didnโ€™t pack properly is in the boot of my car awaiting our purchase to go through as limited space in our temp accommodation ๐Ÿ˜‚

@Caz_Mnaz it's the same here, when I think of all the bulky furniture - sofas, beds, wardrobes, garden furniture and then all the kitchen cupboards, drawers, and just stuff in general it makes me want to cry. We have been slowly chipping away at it since Christmas but still feels like we haven't even scratched the surface.
At the moment i'm being super organised about it and thinking about the room that i want it unpacked in but i'm sure in the end we'll have socks in with the knives and forks
I massively underestimated how many runs it would take to move our furniture out in a self drive - i thought 2-3.....itโ€™s was 5.....& have it all to do again soon I hope ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿปย

    Hi all,ย
First time poster, as many I've found myself on this thread as frustration builds.........
    Our timeline at present:
2/12/20 - sale agreed on our home, cash buyer but house sale going through.
3/12/20 - solicitor appointed for sale.
7/12/20 - offer accepted on house. (end of the chain)
8/12/20 - solicitor appointed for purchase.
15/12/20 - Mortgage valuation completed and mortgage offer provided.
15/12/20 - Searches paid for to solicitor.
5-15/1/21 - contracts for both sale and purchase returned to solicitor. queries raised by buyer which responded too.
29/1/21 - solicitor says nothing outstanding on our sale, but they were waiting a reply to a query on our purchase (since found out this was the gas cert, which id already seen).
4/2/21 - gas cert received from solicitor. Advised that buyers sale is completing on the 8th february 21.

Things have gone relatively quickly compared to some stories ive read on here (hats off to you all for still plugging away when things get complicated!!). With ours it seems the solicitors now have everything to exchange, do I just sit and wait for them to contact me or pester them like a loony to get it done!?

Nearly a week has gone by and we have radio silence from all the solicitors!
Is anyone else finding this extremely frustrating or is it just me ! haha!ย

I've taken notes from some of you RE: packing; I too thought I could do it all + repainting myself in one weekend, I have revised that prediction and will start this weekend for completion on the 26th Febย  :D

Just got an email from my solicitor (forwarded from seller's solicitor) AND from estate agent - busy bees all! Apparently hold up has been a discrepancy in share amount purchased on contract at the seller's side.

Sort now and hopefully will get the exchange call today/tomorrow. They're happy to accept the scan I sent of the contract execution page whilst waiting for hard copy - sent tracked this time!

    We shall see!

I'll distract myself by perusing local Freecycle/Facebook marketplace for people giving away moving boxes...

  • I'm only a few days away from completion! Can't wait - although useless solicitors just asked for the paperwork for my HtB ISA - even though I sent it weeks ago. Apparently they haven't done anything with it, so I seriously hope they haven't messed it up so that I lose the bonus.ย
  • The housing associations solicitors have asked for a cover letter from the bank stating the amount of the share Iโ€™m buying... not sure how long that will take!

To me itโ€™s pretty clear the amount on the mortgage offer as it states Iโ€™m buying a 40% share of the property, full value price of ยฃ155,000.
But they want it to state the amount of the 40% share.

Bad news again for us today. Still waiting on the asbestos report for the vendors onward purchase. Been waiting for it since last week. As it hasnโ€™t come in, it now means we can exchange and complete next week as our solicitor needed to order our mortgage funds today to be ready for next week.
So disappointed, feel like we are just getting absolutely now where. Waiting on this final thing is so draining.
