  • Solicitor has released contracts - are we nearly there? It's just us and the vendors, no onward chain.
  • Hi, is anyone having a problem with their solicitor not answering phone calls or emails? My son and fiancee had their offer on a house accepted in June, mortgage has been offered and accepted, all surveying has been done etc and there is no chain for either side. They are FTB and the vendor is moving in with her partner. My son spent 6 hours trying to get through on the phone today and we think they ought to change solicitors - has anyone else done this? Thanks in advance for any advice

yes I am feeling the limbo thing. For the property Im hoping to buy everything is bubbling along nicely Ive had all the searches and enquiries back with nothing to worry about. Nothing scary in the suvery and the lady Im buying from seems to be ok with her onward purchase. The fly in the ointment remains my buyers who have yet to get their mortgage sorted and so havent even asked for suveys etc. yet. they have/had an issue with their address on their credit record which they think is now sorted. They are FTB and even more clueless than me! I've managed to convince them to see my morgage chap who has been an absolute brick, which they are doing tomorrow. so hopefully I will know tomorrow if its a keep calm and carry on deal or putting the house back on the market. I've been waiting for them to sort this out since the end of July so I think I've been fairly patient. I just hope if its back to the drawing board my vendor is willing to hang on for at least a little while to see if I can get a new buyer. rather anxious right now:o

Hope everything has worked out for you now :)
We completed on 7th, went to house with our stuff and vendors had left loads of stuff so before we could even begin sorting our own stuff we've had to sort all that.
Been a long few days, on top of us trying to sort the rental out ready to give keys back and Going back to uni next week. Be glad to be in one place and not between two

Bank informed us via text and email they would be releasing the funds on the 19th ready for us to complete on the 21st, but we haven't officially exchanged yet....not really sure how that works but as long as we get the keys on the 21st I don't really care. Just want to move and settle in to our house now!

We got some ball park numbers on Friday which we can make work. Now to make those numbers official by having 3 other agents value the house. Should be fine but still eek. Still got our plot reservation too! :T
ahh that is good news :j

Dad on the verge of exchanging contracts, has signed the contract for his purchase. We're aiming for an October completion, but I'll believe it when the keys are in our hands! Over three years of waiting, but I think we're getting close now. We're extremely lucky to be in the position we are, but it's been a long time coming too!

We’ve now had our mortgage offer through and our solicitor is back on Thursday and will go through the paperwork and send her enquiries, hopefully we can exchange and complete this month (more for the sake of the waiting chain than ours - we’d be better off towards the middle of next month to minimise rent and mortgage overlap).

Annoyed with our surveyor, survey for homebuyer report was last Monday and not heard a word since - let him know that we are away and asked if he could let me know when the report is sent so we can call someone to pop over and grab / scan it for us, he hasn’t even responded to that.

    ———-

Before the current purchase we had offered on another house (made 10/08, accepted 17/08 following which we appointed our solicitor and submitted the first full mortgage application). House 2 then got back onto the market after the buyer decided to pull out three days before exchange - same layout but much cheaper so...

28/08 - offer on house 2 made and instructed solicitor to hold fire on house 1
    30/08 - offer on house 2 accepted
30/08 - 1st full mortgage application cancelled and new full mortgage application submitted via broker
03/09 - survey for homebuyer report taken place
07/09 - valuation survey taken place
07/09 - received search results from our solicitor (some purchased from previous buyer’s solicitor hence that quick). Solicior also received draft contract & other paperwork from seller’s solicitor this week
10/09 - received mortgage offer (email, waiting for paper version)
11/09 - checked in with solicitor and confirmed that all search results are back and they’ll go through paperwork in a couple of days

what kind of solicitor is it? a local one or one of the big conveyancing places? I have sold my house with purple bricks, which comes with taking their conveyancing partners PPL. Personally I haven't had any problem with them (so far...) but lots of people on here have, search for them by name and you'll find what other people have done. or post it as a new thread in the house buying section rather than in this specific thread, as you are more likely to get an answer that way. if its a local solicitor, and it were me, id go to the office and pester the receptionist to get someone to talk to you?
