So I kept wondering whether or not searches had been started by my solicitor. They came back to me to say that they won't start them until they receive the draft contract (which I haven't seen yet)

    Is that normal?

Looking at some of your timelines, it looks like some of you had searches before the draft contract was received.
in my case, the solicitor ordered searches on the same day when she received the contract pack
    FTB on no chain house

    15/8 offer accepted
    18/8 instructed solicitor
    20/8 instructed surveyor
    1/9 Draft contract received
    1/9 Local searches ordered
    15/9 Survey done
17/9 Survey report received. No major issue
21/9 Survey report sent to our solicitor
4/10 A bunch of documents received from solicitor (inc. local search results, fitting fixtures forms...)
    4/10 Enquiries raised

Hoping exchange in mid Oct, completion on end of Oct

20/10 Suggested 1/11 as completion date - let's see how it goes!

    1/11 Exchangrd & Completed!

My solicitor started searches long before receiving the draft contract. Thankfully, as it took four months for them to receive the draft contract (and it's very much a draft as I presume a new version will need to be issued once probate problems are sorted).
what? It took 4 MONTHS to receive the pack?  :o

Hi all, our searches are back and the solicitor has advised that the local search has revealed new roads planned within 200m, and that they’ve asked the vendor for more info. They’ve said that they need to inform our mortgage provider for authority to proceed.

Did anyone else have this - is it something I should be worried about (the mortgage lender that is - the planned road doesn’t worry me. I imagine that it’s connected to a development across the way, which is half built…).

@arfa and @birdmadgirl8 congratulations on exchanging!

Our saga continues. Looks like we have regressed back to last Friday morning! We are back to no responses / Radio silence and downright arrogant untruths from PPL, who have been consistently terrible from the start. Following yet another complaint to the vendors EA, and our vendor trying for the last week to get hold of them and all EAs and solicitors attempting exchange for 5 days straight, I have no faith in this bunch of charlatans. The EA had obviously had a word, and then rang the vendor this afternoon and asked him for some fundamental paperwork again, as this was apparently photographed at the wrong angle - now retaken and returned, so exchange "should" now be possible tomorrow. Which begs the question - why was this not done before there was agreement that everyone was ready?

However, they are still apparently insisting we are on track to complete on Tuesday - but given the levels of complete incompetence this week I am incredibly uncomfortable by the idea that we will end up exchanging and completing on the same day. I don't feel we can trust them to do everything properly in one day, so my instinct now is to move the completion date back a few days if they dont exchange tomorrow.

I am beyond furious, I feel more stressed than I have in years, and I am completely exhausted. Despite some pretty horrid times, this has been the worst experience of my life!

You must be exhausted with all of this. I think it’s because so much is out of your control and you are having to rely on others to get things done. I am absolutely shocked with the stories on here.

Chased with they informed us our contract had been sent out to sign yesterday and they just happened to look at our file yesterday…very convenient! Also as FTB I have no idea what the process entails and I tried asking but they didn’t really explain and just said review the pack. Just so keen to complete this month but not sure if it’s possible?!

Congratulations to everyone that has managed to exchange/complete/make movements this week!

We've finally exchanged today with completion set for 22nd October!!! I've never refreshed my emails so many times but feel like I can finally relax ahead of a staycation starting tomorrow.
Good luck to everyone for good news tomorrow!
  •  Oh @MrsBrush - I was so hoping you might have some good news by now. It sounds like something might have shifted today for you. I know how awful it feels, but it does sound as though you're close.  I'm willing tomorrow to be your day 🌻

@KittleSkittle Congratulations on your exchange 🎉 great news!

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes today. I am SO relieved and delighted to say that we exchanged at 4.50 pm (just as I was giving up hope for another day). It's pretty much a year to the day that we started this journey - I'm not sure I'd have ever started it if I'd known how tough it would be!!! But we did it - finally!

@MrsBrush - I really hope you exchange tomorrow, so that we can both celebrate & pack over the weekend. Not surprised you're angry - the whole thing sounds ridiculous. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and am sorry you didn't make it today.
    Congratulations @birdmadgirl8 🎉🎉🎉
So happy you got there in the end! It’s been a long journey but so delighted you finally did it. Wonderful news in time for your birthday too! A double celebration is in order 🥂🍾👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Well done to everyone else who’s made it too! It’s worth it in the end.

Hang on in there everyone else! You too will soon be surrounded by boxes choosing what to put where very soon!
