That's outrageous. What an absolute farce.

Sounds like your solicitor is on it, which is good. I'm guessing conveyancers are super hard to find atm, but maybe someone like a trust lawyer will have availability. I'm sure you'll make it happen!
  • My vendors solicitor has gone on holiday (again) and nobody in the office seems capable of picking the file up!

To add to my misery, it looks like my removal company has taken a confirmed job now so I've nobody to move me!

So my solicitor called. She said the lender is not satisfied with a document I had my partner sign, which they asked when they made the mortgage offer. They want him to seek independent legal advice before signing it, which they could have said 1 month ago when we sent them the signed form! Not wait until completion to say no sorry we want your partner to hire another solicitor the day before the stamp duty deadline. I've already called 4 and they are all above capacity, obviously, and one of them quoted me £2000 just to speak with my partner and witness him signing the document. This is insane. I'm furious. I must admit that I've been crying like a fountain. This is too much.
Crikey! Could you search for a small local independent? How much do you stand to lose in SDLT? Could you counter offer the £2k to make it happen? Good luck

@m4x1ne thank you, hopefully! I've got 3 options now: 1) suggest we do an extra paper to sign by my partner 2) we use the seller's solicitor if they agree 3) I ask the agent if the know personally some solicitor who could spare five minute of their extremely busy pre stamp duty holiday day to help us.

@Caz_Mnaz that's what I would have thought! He understands and we spoke about it all and he already signed the form so I don't really know why they would be holding it up now. At least they could have told us before!!!! I'm utterly fuming,

Update: I found one that didn't say no straight away. They would be speaking with the partners in the practice and then come back to me. Still hoping!
