I've now had 3 days with no-one responding to me. I'm a complete overthinker so now I think something bad is going to happen. My solicitor is normally excellent at responding but I haven't had an update from her, we also asked if we could potentially ask the question to our sellers if they would break the chain so we can complete buy the end of June and we would pay for their removals and storage for a month or so until their purchase goes through and no response to that either. I emailed the EA to get another viewing round our purchased house as we haven't seen it in 14 weeks and no reply from them either.I am so unbelievably fed up. I have a new job looming which I had to take and we really want to start trying for baby number 2 but this house move is taking foreverrrrr!

Well after lurking in the background seeing all the highs and lows I thought that now we were going through the same I'd share our experience to date (and maybe vent a bit of course
)
We accepted an offer on our house on 28/03, had our offer accepted on 05/04. Small-ish chain, our buyer (FTB), us, our seller and their purchase which has no chain. Everything was back and ready by the beginning of June. Nobody expressed any specific dates until the 15th where our seller insisted that we exchanged ASAP and completed on 25th June.
A mad panic ensued given only 8 working days notice to completion. We managed to arrange removals and sort mortgage draw down with solicitors on the 16th and attempted to exchange as requested whilst frantically packing. Didn't happen, sellers solicitor was now not ready and needed until Monday (yesterday). Yesterday came and went, still no exchange or response from their solicitors.
Started the process again today, spoke to my solicitor who said that the sellers solicitor said that the delay is with their purchase.
Called the EA today to follow up ASAP (what is the delay, when will it be sorted, will we complete on Friday) since we now live in what appears like a storage facility, paid deposits for removals and our buyer is getting understandably annoyed.
We knew that it was unlikely we would meet the SDLT deadline and was not in a rush, similarly our buyer wasn't affected by it anyway so we have both moved heaven and earth to accommodate our sellers who up until this point made offered no preferred dates.
Apologies for the rant, I do feel a bit better for writing it down
Good luck to those exchanging today!1 -

@laura_lau Yep and he’s quite a placid person.He only wanted a response to an email he sent a week prior asking if she had started the searches they discussed and how he was to pay because she never sent anything and she bit his head off “I’m busy - you’re not my only client you know” was what came out from her mouth apparently according to him.Which is why I’m surfing the web for time scales from you all.I’m going to wait until after the 30th of June for all the Stamp duty cases to be prioritised, then I’m really going to start chasing 😆.1

@vkz wow! that does sound excessively harsh! I would be scared too! I suppose if you don't have urgency you can wait a couple more days, but strictly speaking the fact she's busy shouldn't really impact your case, because no one forced her to take up so many cases that she couldn't cope!! Of course I know the reality is different, as we are all impacted by slow solicitors right now. It's been my biggest frustration of the whole process (this and slow lenders!)Debt free journey started 30/08/2023:

We want completion 23rd July. If I leave it until middle of next week to chase, it just slows us down.
Solicitors said the date I want is doable (insert stipulations here) but EA wasn't very confident. So if I leave them to it for a fortnight God knows what the EA response would be 😂0 -
uralmaid said:Our removal company are here packing the first load to go into storage ready for completion 29th. Now the solicitor has just rung to say there is a problem at the bottom of the chain. We dont know if they just mean they can't exchange on Friday or if they mean they can't complete on the 29th. I am going into meltdown
We have just had the same thing. Apparently the bottom of the chain are now not confident funds will be there in time for the completion date so they want to delay or do simultaneous exchange and completion. I don’t want to do simultaneous but the delay means our buyers will miss out on their stamp duty savings and of course they have to agree to this. The agent is trying to push for exchange and delay so am still waiting to hear.
I hope you have better news soon!1
