laura_lau said:Sounds like your surveyor wasn't the best, I am no expert but it sounds like you might be able to put a complaint and maybe get some sort of refund? But consider carefully if this is going to pile up even further stress on your situation, it might be a subtle balance there.I've been thinking about whether I have the energy or not - I feel quite aggrieved that they cost me £660 for the structural engineer to come and say that they were wrong... that's a lot of money! But ultimately it might be better to just let it go ...@climbthatwallseegar - I'll have to go have a wander and check out Wapping! Thanks for the tip@ss@ss2020jd - fingers crossed for tomorrow for you..@jenni_fer - that's so distressing. This system is designed to give people stomach ulcers1

Congrats Bounty Blink!
Against all odds and a complete roller-coaster journey that we've been on since September, we are hoping to exchange tomorrow and complete next Tuesday! We should have easily made the first deadline! I can't quite believe we're so close to making the second and it's taken a herculean effort on my, my vendors and our fantastic solicitors part!
Our chain collapsed at the top and was only complete again 15 May, and the valuation was only done on our purchase on Thursday, so it's been an epic few days of chasing. Please let it happen tomorrow so I can breathe again 😂
Good luck to everyone on this bonkers ride!4 -

So last I heard earlier this evening was exchange was happening tomorrow morning. Buyer solicitor stated they could only exchange between 9am - 11am due to a pre-existing appointment. FIne. I popped out to pick up keys for my rental and have just checked my e-mail for something (unrelated to sale) to find a message from my solicitor sent at 7pm stating buyer's solicitor now wants to exchange this evening! I have only just replied to agree, no idea if it's too late. So bizarre that after so much delay (caused by buyer constantly changing their mind over a retention) suddenly everything is happening so quickly.

Thank you all for your lovely words! It does mean so much! This forum has been such a life saver, if only to vent and have support on.When I posted earlier we exchanged I was actually in my car covered in hand gel, because the top flew off and I hadn’t been out or done anything all day, putting off getting items for dinner (like most of the past week) and the call came in. I called my husband and then was on here to update you all.. but with all the happiness I felt I nearly started my post with “trigger warning” because I didn’t want to gloat, not at this time of being nearly at the end of June. However, I thought... no, I will put it because I hope someone that has just had a chain above collapse, and feels helpless like they will have to wait another few months for chain to form and complete, might read my time alone and see that even with an incomplete chain it is possible with motivated people to get it over the line in a few weeks.Just keep on pushing guys, and do chase, because if you are chasing too much a solicitor or an agent will tell you.I was on another thread on another forum website and a property solicitor was helping others, whilst on maternity leave and she very much says chase chase chase. Yes the industry is busy, but so long as you are polite, keep your emails to one or two lines then people will try to help you. Like our solicitor did. There is still time for you to get this over the line by next week, and I’m cheering you on too. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️7

We should have been exchanging/completing on our first house tomorrow, but a cheque we have been given for the fees won’t be cleared in time (bloody monzos stupid cheque system). We were hoping for the end of this week, but now the sellers say they can’t on Thursday or Friday, only on 28th or 29th. We have to hand our notice on our rental in before the first, which only leaves around 2 days leeway, so naturally we’re bricking it.
Our solicitor doesn’t respond to my emails, and only really updates us just before something big happens/needs doing. My husband emailed her for the first time today asking what is happening with a date. She emailed back saying they’re waiting for the deposit, which she has not once asked for. I have since spoken to her on the phone and she never mentioned the deposit. We have the deposit but we are waiting for her fees, which she knows.
Can any of you lovely lot tell me if there is anything that can go wrong with exchange/completion?0 -
Thanks @BountyBlink, exchanged at 9pm this evening! A strange albeit welcome end to the day given that just 6 hours ago the buyer was pushing back yet again on a leasehold issue. So relieved that the stress is (almost) all over. Now just a small matter of finishing packing everything, shifting it into the rental house or storage and finding a house to buy. Another few months of stress beckons I’m sure!I think I’m also on that other thread on the other forum with the solicitor on maternity leave - she is amazing.Best of luck to everyone looking to exchange over the next week. It seems it can happen when you least expect!4
