Why so long between having the offer accepted and instructing solicitors? Apologies if you have already posted about this

I was waiting first for the vendors to find a house, and then waiting for the survey to come back before paying out for the searches. It took a long time to sort out the survey (over a month from asking the lender to transfer my mortgage to the new house). The surveyor has sent everything by post saying they don't have my email address, even though I have emailed them a few times already so they obviously do.

No idea if it is the done thing but we are also in constant contact with our seller. She kept us informed of any news on her side and we did the same. I texted her this afternoon about the possible date of completion for the 30th Nov and told her we would rather it is at the latest the 24th Nov.. She agreed that that date suits her best and tonight we got the email she forwarded to us from her solicitor asking if she is happy to complete the 24th Nov.. She of course said she is very happy to complete at the given date..

This makes me happy knowing that our solicitors and hers are really communicating as fast as possible about important information.

We are super happy tonight as it seems things are moving along nicely although each day without progress feels like a month..

Here is to everyone able to exchange and complete this week.. Good luck

  • Well we've moved in and the sellers did not make it easy. Boyfriend let himself in whilst I was still in the rented property and found the sellers had furniture, clothes, clothes washing and a fridge full of food here.

Seller arrived at about 2:30, quite ok we had a key as it was agreed we could let ourselves in at 2 and it turned out he'd hired a tiny van and the people loading it had no experience (loading everything on one side of the van first, not back to front.

They finally left at 6, with our movers helping them by moving their stuff out onto the drive but all the stuff still didn't fit in the van so boyfriend agreed to let them store it in the garage for tonight only.

Sellers mum in law then turned up at 8pm wanting to talk to us and see what was in the garage. We just sent her away as we've never met her and agreed with the seller they can collect things tomorrow and we just want to sit down and relax now and 8pm is not a fair time when they had all day to move things.

Couldn't thank our movers enough, gave them a healthy tip and also a 35cl bottle of whiskey each as a thank you which they they approved of.

Good grief dpearson, what a fiasco! can't believe mother in law turned up - the cheek!! Hope they come and get it all tomorrow as planned. Make sure you change your locks else they might pop back in to put a wash on or something  :rotfl:

Fingers crossed for exchanging tomorrow dancing star!
  • I know, I very nearly shouted at her but thought we are the new neighbour's and current neighbour's may be watching so we kept our cool.

We're in and out tomorrow so if it's a time that doesn't suit us it's tough - we've made sure we've got all the keys and checked with the mother in law if they are any other keys but will be getting them all replaced asap
  • Hi all well done those who've exchanged or completed recently. I'm a nervous wreck so thought I'd share my latest. So contract signed last Friday and deposi sent to my solicitor on Monday morning. Told my solicitor that my landlords have a new tenant moving in on the 18th so asked to complete 16th All fine he says only a couple of queries outstanding so we'll aim to exchange by the 3rd.
Nothing all week so far although a call from the EA on Monday said they'd chase things...
Don't know what to do now. Should I start planning / packing? Feel sick, can't sleep. If we don't exchange this week I guess we have early next but it will mean another weekend of stress. If we can't do it in time it will be best friend's spare room for a bit. Never felt so anxious and as a single ftb no one to share the stress with :(

Purple I feel your pain! We have 5 working days now before we have to give notice on our rental and still no indication of whether we can exchange before then.
We are thinking of giving notice anyway if exchange looks imminent, and asking the vendor of we can have access to the property (for storage of some stuff only - its currently empty) for a few days before completion as a buffer.

We had been aiming to get a month between exchange and completion in order to give notice on our rental but we are running out of time. Our letting agency won't let us end the tenancy after 9th Dec and will force us to pay rent until Jan 15th! We can't afford to pay for 7 weeks overlap between properties!

Purplepenguin.. I suppose you can pack and sort yourself out as much as you can as you still have two whole weeks to go. Just be prepared for the worst but keep on pushing for the best outcome.

I find reading other peoples timelines, worries and tribulations a good way of not feeling alone in the process..

She has form for this. I'm not surprised.

EA has texted, emailed and left voicemails yesterday.

I did suggest the EA tried a carrier pigeon, and he said that was probably the only method they had yet to employ.

Meanwhile, yes I am climbing the walls.

Juniordoc, I know I'll have overlap between rental and moving in, as I need work done, but that is the least of my worries and thankfully I can afford it, but my heart goes out to you. You too, purple.

Good luck to everyone else and  at the Mother In Law dpearson.
