Phoned my solicitor, got the receptionist/assistant. She tells me she needs to pull the files and will call me back this afternoon. I won't hold my breath. What does it take for to get to the top of her priority list?! Aaarrrrgggghhhh.
It's frustrating isn't it. I've only ever spoken to my solicitor once and that was at the very start when I made an enquiry to use their services! Since then I've only ever spoken to my solicitors PA. I've never actually met my solicitor, but her PA knows me well now as we only live one street away so I call round in person to collect paperwork etc!

I also told her I haven't received the contract she told me 10 days ago she was posting, so I pretended to blame Royal Mail and asked her which service she used so I can enquire with the post office. I am pretty sure she hasn't posted it yet, or if she has, that she posted it like this morning, 2nd class. I feel this wait is really not good for my sanity.
Are you able to collect in person? If not, I would instruct that all mail needs to be sent special delivery, even if the cost has to be added to your bill. If you're aiming for the end of next week, with the bank holiday you don't have time to wait on documents being posted.
No unfortunately, she's in Wales and I'm in Surrey... That's why I asked her the question, so that I can tell her to send next day delivery and add to my bill. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt first. I've also passive/aggressively ended the email with a "looking forward to hearing back from you before the end of the day" - this implies otherwise I'll be chasing again, and this time both by phone and email. Annoying thing is, they don't answer calls, you always have to leave a message and they write you back, and rarely call you back, so an email is usually quicker.

My solicitor doesn't reply to emails and rarely answers her direct phone, or calls you back if you leave a message. On the rare occasion she does email back, she doesn't actually answer the question you asked. It's so frustrating. I've asked her to call before 4pm, as I'm on a work call again then, but I seriously doubt she will. Fast running out of days now, and at the rate my solicitor and the others in the chain work, I can't see us getting this thing over the line in time.  :s

@Natbag this sounds literally my solicitor! She never replies to the question I ask in any of the correspondence! The rate at which my hair is graying is climbing up so fast!!!

Same here. It has been a very long and stressful journey, I've cried on the phone to her a couple of times, yet she just doesn't understand my need to exchange as soon as possible. Almost 2 weeks now since we gave the instruction to exchange, just over 1 week until the completion date, and yet nothing has happened STILL.

Same. Just spoke to my solicitor (who's fab) and he said he really can't see us exchanging in time for completion next Friday.... My other half starts his job on 7th so he'll have to move up early and sofa surf... Not ideal!!!

Oh no, have they said why? There are 5 working days this week and 4 next week, that should be enough time if everyone is ready to go - I hope so! If we can't make it now and my solicitor has sat on this for almost two weeks without any progress I am going to go absolutely crazy.

So to recap - my GF and I are selling our respective houses and buying a new build.  My GF's sale fell through a couple of weeks ago - the buyer couldn't get a mortgage and refused to communicate at all.  So I applied for a mortgage to cover the difference whilst she re-listed.  In the meantime, my own sale is nearly ready to exchange and she's had a few viewers but no offer yet.

This morning I got notification that the mortgage offer was issued (though not got it yet), which means we can proceed.  All good news - but suddenly my GF's buyers solicitors have re-surfaced and raised a load of questions - having repeatedly refused to communicate in the last few weeks with the EA.  We don't know if he's even got his mortgage offer.

I think we are minded to go ahead with my sale plus the mortgage route and not continue with the buyers and try and find new ones - they are from overseas and given the way it's all gone, who is to say they won't pay the deposit and then just disappear before completion?
I would probably steer clear from them, the lack of communication is a tad disrespectful and then to turn up out of the blue with questions! They sound like a big red flag!

He just said he thinks the bottom won't and I quote 'have their s**t together in time' 😂 they haven't commented on any of the dates suggested, and I think they'll be still want 2 weeks from exchange and completion.

Ah ok, that would be funny if it wasn't something so big/important. Sigh! We are ready, and our buyers and vendor are all ready, we have been for a while due to the hold up on the other side of the chain, so if I find out now that there's anything outstanding I'm going to lose it!
