@mat1964 - I think you do right, you can always bring her in later once her sale completes to someone more committed. But good news on you getting the mortgage you need to save your purchase, so pleased for you!
@FtbEmz - that's the completion date I'm aiming for. Next Monday is a bank holiday so I'm eager to get exchanged asap as we have two buyers to draw up deposits as well. Hope we can both make it!

Same @Caz_Mnaz - thank you. I've booked vans now as availability was low on that date, and I needed one for me and one for my ex to get him moved out too, but they can be amended/cancelled if necessary. Also booked broadband, as we need it for working from home, but again that can be pulled if it doesn't go ahead. Still hovering over the buy button on a dining table, as it's a 2-3 week delivery, but I daren't until we exchange. So if we move on time, it's going to be carpet picnics for a while!
Yes my broadband is an issue we probably won't have it for a week, I didn't want to set things in motion before we exchange in case my seller gets a bit miffed....
Well the buyers of my boyfriend's house have already, but we've checked and it's from a week after we move out so that's fine. Our sellers were in touch to say they were moving out a couple of days before, but we've arranged broadband for the day after we move in, so that should be fine. They might receive the router in the post, but I'll let them know and I'm sure they will set it aside for us.

So our buyers decided against a survey and instead raised  a couple of additional enquiries at the end of last week. Like other posters, we need to exchange this week so we can book a removal company. We are aiming to complete on 11th June and companies are booking up fast. All parties have agreed to 11th June, but don't want to book anything (and put down deposits) until those contracts are exchanged.
Hopefully we can resolve the final queries and then exchange ASAP. Currently going for the record of the number of times I refresh my inbox in one day.

In that case, they are talking to you and then putting a note on file, so it's the same principle.  They may not need to follow up an email confirming the telephone conversation to you if the conversation is not of a legal nature.  All telephone conversations between all the solicitors, council, lenders, land registry, man co etc do need written confirmation, which is why solicitors do not phone each other, unless it's to exchange or complete.
Absolutely. I work in a law firm so it's how I know. We have to type telephone notes up to record conversations between solicitors and other businesses/companies etc. If we're looking for confirmation of something then it's always done in writing, but general queries, updates etc, a quick phone call is usually the quickest way to get answers as emails are easy to ignore/forget about!
Haha, I also work in a law firm!

Good morning everyone, and congratulations to those who completed and exchanged on Friday!
I've just caught up with the last couple of days of posts, and I see about half of the people are having progress, and the other half are still waiting and super nervous about a new week of chasing solicitors etc! I am among those, I feel so stressed this morning! I really need to agree dates as I really need to complete by end of next week, but still have no dates! My solicitor hasn't written me since last Tuesday, although I asked her for updates on Thursday. I have just written her a new email now, telling her I really need her to chase the vendor very hard and that I want her to agree dates regardless of the two pending enquiries, in the hope they make the seller's solicitor wake up and reply. I also told her I haven't received the contract she told me 10 days ago she was posting, so I pretended to blame Royal Mail and asked her which service she used so I can enquire with the post office. I am pretty sure she hasn't posted it yet, or if she has, that she posted it like this morning, 2nd class. I feel this wait is really not good for my sanity.

Phoned my solicitor, got the receptionist/assistant. She tells me she needs to pull the files and will call me back this afternoon. I won't hold my breath. What does it take for to get to the top of her priority list?! Aaarrrrgggghhhh.

Are you able to collect in person? If not, I would instruct that all mail needs to be sent special delivery, even if the cost has to be added to your bill. If you're aiming for the end of next week, with the bank holiday you don't have time to wait on documents being posted.

Can you collect the contract in person? I've collected all of my paperwork from the solicitor as I know it'll speed things up. Would a phone call to them speed things up a bit too?

So, my solicitor should be back from annual leave this morning. How soon should I call her (knowing it's likely she won't be taking calls while she 'catches up'). If we don't exchange in the next day or so, we are going to struggle to complete on time, especially with next Monday being a bank holiday. I just want to exchange, moving vans are already booking up, and I just can't get excited until it's all nailed down.

Fingers crossed for you Natbag. I'd call her as soon as you finish the work calls you mentioned. I really hope this saga ends for you soon.

I'm in the same situation, work calls untill midday and then need to contact mine who in fairness is really good at responding to e-mails (on the other hand she never answers her phone!) My property freeholder finally sent a response to the latest never ending round of enquiries and I really need a confirmed completion date this week as the buyer wants to move in by end of June. I'm trying to stay calm and practice my 'what will be, will be' mantra...
