Forgot to say I passed on a large tin of golden syrup and a large squeezy bottle of it to my DiL yesterday. I already have a bottle with o my a small amount used so don't know why I had so much. More room n my small cupboard! I'm also kondoing rhubarb and quince from the freezer into jams as stocks are almost gone. More space in the garage freezer as I need to defrost the house one!

  • Yesterday I went through my notebooks and my Word documents where I made notes about the health books I have read recently and then wrote the information I needed into one journal to keep. All the paper notes went into the recycling.

I'm using up the last of the furniture polish today. I bought a long handled duster a while back and will use that instead from now on as I'm trying to cut down on chemicals in the house.:)

I've kondoed a duvet! I was using it as a mattress protector, and with all the building works going on, I decided that its time had come. So its gone :)

    I still have 7 :o:
    - 1 as a mattress protector, 1 summer, 1 winter, for my bed.
    - ditto for the guest bed, single size.
    - another one that's, erm, not wanted. Since its sitting in a storage bag on top of a built win wardrobe, I think I'm just going to leave it there, for emergencies or for when one of the current crop dies :)

  • So, the plumber was due today to sort out the leaking toilet. I decided I'd better give the downstairs loo a good clean, the cat has been sleeping in there (long story).
In a fit of KondoMania, I decided that I was fed up with the wine rack which lives in there, it went there years ago as there was no room in the kitchen and it was the only space I could find. It means the radiator is never turned on in there.
The obvious place would be beside the kitchen dresser, this used to be filled with a CD Rack which I Kondoed some time ago, and now only holds a box with CDs in that could be relocated.
I measured the space. I measured the wine rack. I emptied the wine rack and carried it into the kitchen.
I had overlooked the skirting and the profile on the dresser; the wine rack wouldn't fit.
I took all the plates and ornaments off the dresser. I shoved. It didn't move.
I took several bottles of gin :) out of the dresser. I shoved. It didn't move.
I removed several jars of mincemeat, jam and some other bottles, I shoved, it moved but not in the direction I wanted ... some time later, I shifted the dresser the 2cm that it needed to go.
    I cleaned it.
I wiped all the plates, ornaments etc and put most of them back.
I decided some of them don't spark joy, and could be found better homes.
I put the gin bottles, mincemeat etc back.
I dusted the wine rack, and put it back.
I put all the wine back in (I don't actually drink wine very often ... if I did I wouldn't need a wine rack!)

By this time it was 11.30 pm. And that, ladies and gentlemen of the jury is why I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the loo at 7.30 this morning. The dresser looks fabulous, the downstairs loo is suddenly twice the size it was, and I now know that I don't need to buy any mincemeat this Christmas.

The rest of the house is filthy, and now the b!%*&$ plumber (arranged through British Gas Homecare) has just phoned to say he's not coming! I may need to open one of those bottles of wine.

Surprise! I've been kondoing at work! It suddenly all came together: time, a willing boss, I reached the annoyance-threshold, bags for the shredding company, filing boxes, lightbulb as to a filing method.

There are now 2 large bags full of paper for shredding (an external company takes care of that this time), 4 boxes for the external filing company, a paper bin full of non-confidential paper, 13 empty binders returned to the stationary room. Half a shelving unit emptied :)

I'm also with the company 10 years, and they've given me a joyful bouquet, a bottle of champagne, a pin with two (tiny) diamonds, a certificate to put on my wall, and I'll get a cash gift of €300 with my next payday.

Polly -a real 'snowball' job with a happy ending ( apart from the plumber!)

Is it me or is everyone else fed up with 'black friday' - I don't want or need any more stuff no matter how cheap it is today :(

:p I'm bored with shopping in general.

Yup, I buy food, and fossick among a few favourite chazzers where I know and like the staff but, in general, I am completely disinterested in shopping and dread that certain important things (like a cooker or washer) will die because I'll have to Go Shopping.

Last time I bought a washer, I did my research in the Which? magazine in the library, browsed a store which is never knowingly undersold, went to the till and said; I want one of those, please.

The salesman looked a little phased at the speed but the whole transaction was concluded in minutes, including arranging delivery.

:D I've been accused of shopping like a bloke before now, and I resemble that remark.

Hahaha, my mum used to say that about me. I think she wanted the odd girlie shopping trip but even as a teenager I went into a shop, scanned from a few feet in and picked what I liked or said nothing here and wanted to move on lol

I know just what you mean!

I need to replace my iPad. If I'd done that today, I could have got a voucher for more apple stuff. But I don't need any more apple stuff, I don't want any more apple stuff. It wouldn't have really been a free purchase either because I bet there wouldn't have been anything to buy just for the voucher value.

So we resisted and didn't buy today. We'll do it tomorrow, when we have to be in town anyway.
