Been an odd week here so far. Although it's Halloween tonight and being in the country we don't see much it feels a bit like most people celebrated it at the weekend and it's all done and dusted already!
Mum was due back at hospital today however they cancelled her appointment saying they have no results and don't know when they will be back - may be another week. I'm really angry, it's now 9 weeks since her diagnosis and it feels like there is simply no sense of urgency at all. I'm trying to be positive with her but I'm talking with dad about the possibility of paying for private care rather than have continual delays.
Dark here already and cold and damp. Quite depressing that winter feels like it's upon us already!0 -
This is just a flying visit . Still struggling with this virus so hope to catch up at the weekend .
SM I'm not sure of the situation north of the border but in some areas in England there's a problem with cancer care for the elderly due to funding cuts . Maybe worth seeking a second opinion paid for at this stage so you know whether your mum is getting the ongoing help she needs and can make an informed choice between NHS or private care .
Take care it's exhausting fighting these battles .
I'll hopefully catch up in a couple of days . Take care everyone and I wish Nell , James and the boys many happy years .

candlelight Thank you for the news of Chris. Such a sad time, but at least it sounds as of Bob's funeral went as well as these things can. She and her family have been in my thoughts.
SM I'm so sorry to hear about your friend
Happy to say my second cataract op went well and I can now use escalators againand am getting used to the many things i need the reading glasses for. I bought a pair I can peer over the top of, so I can use the computer and watch TV at the same time:)
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is automatically reach for a pair of varifocals that is no longer there
I reckon I'll be able to see to sew again, so I had better have the sewing machine serviced as it's been sitting doing nothing for about three years.0 -
Wonderful to read you have two working eyes now ivyleaf. I hope you're soon back to sewing .
I've just had three failed attempts to edit a typo on the fence . I think I'll wash my hair and prepare for the great outdoors tomorrow morning .
Much love to all

Afternoon all, jolly cold here today and I'm typing wrapped in a nice warm fleece wrap (and still chilly). Have had a baking session this morning and made a sponge flan case to fill with fruit and a large orange spice cake that I've started to soak with some honey syrup and the house smells like Christmas. Much rugby on TV this weekend woohoo so I can snuggle up in my armchair and watch in the warm. Had a super few days with the Zebra child who was such a good boy and he and I had lots of fun 'trick or treating' on Halloween evening and super fun at the Steam Train Museum we visited on Thursday. We went to the theatre last night with DD and James and the play was hilarious, James treated us to supper out before the performance and we had a very pleasant evening together, got home late and slept like a log.
Hope Polly and DD are continuing to improve after viruses and the debilitating post viral symptom they leave behind, hope SM and mum are able to find answers to pertinent questions and get some action if it's needed, and Candlelight my dear, I hope you are a little less uncomfortable now and that your dear OH is managing to hold his own with his health. I think of all of you very often and hope you are all OK, as much as you can be xxx.0 -
Evening all from storm lashed Scotland. I spent a good few hours last Sunday washing my windows, I suspect by tomorrow morning I may not be able to see through them again!
My dear friends memorial service was this morning. It was a lovely service although very difficult. I'm well practised in keeping expressionless through these situations, in fact I'm known as the Ice Queen amongst close friends, however that slipped a bit today. I thought I'd come to terms with things a while ago as the tumour had taken away the person I knew so well but I think perhaps it's all catching up with me a bit.
I took mum out this afternoon though so that was a distraction. It Was intended to be a shoe shopping trip but was not to be. it was very wet and windy and no shoes were found but it did which result in her purchasing a beautiful vase and me finding some fabulous festive ribbon which may adorn one of the Christmas cakes so it wasn't in vain. Many friends have sent her flowers recently and it was her birthday this week so the house resembles a florists - she adores cut flowers and is happily arranging and combining bouquets to make stunning displays.
I plan to make Christmas cake number 3 tomorrow. The fruit is soaking tonight and I'm still working through father in laws donated baking supplies. I made him steak and ale pie yesterday and delivered it along with new potatoes and carrots from our garden. He was quite delighted. I did suggest he come for tea sometime and I think as time goes on that's a possibility.
Hoping for a better nights sleep tonight, last night was very restless and unsettled. Planning on being at the 8am gym class so I should get off to bed now!0 -
Good morning, I don't normally post on this thread, but often read along.
I just thought I would pop in and say hello to all you lovely people - hope you all have as good a day as you can, bearing in mind family illness, and stressful life events.
Take care, all of you.0 -
Good morning, although it is very murky here today.
Yesterday was really lovely, blowy and sunny all at the same time so washing was dried outside.
SM you do seem to be having an awful time at the moment, I hope things improve soon.
Scarlett you are more than welcome, I know you post on the Daily thread
Lyn since your move to Gloucestershire your life seems to get better and better, you sound so happy.
Ivyleaf I am so pleased you have now had both eyes done and can see. My left eye isn't quite ready yet, although to be honest until I get these legs sorted out I think the eye will have to wait.
I have an appointment for a pelvic xray on the 13th November, so no hurry then. The pain isn't as bad as it was and the trouble is I don't know whether I should be resting or exercising because I don't know what is wrong, no doubt all will be revealed in the fullness of time. Himself is being very attentive despite having dodgy knees himself, but we get by with a combined effort.
DGD has just finished scraping all the wallpaper off her bedroom, (Has taken months on and off) so hopefully she will be painting soon, as she is hoping to take a couple of days holiday.
All the DGC will be having money this Christmas, but I have a couple of presents for each of them so I want to wrap them soon. The money is more beneficial to them than me trawling the shops and buying things they don't really want/need.
It is a quiet day today, No jobs really to be done, none that can't wait until tomorrow. I did have a good sort out on Friday and I have 2 bigs sacks of stuff for the charity shop. How many handbags does a girl need, not many when you are my age, so several bags and shoes, and lots of little bits that I have bought for presents over the last couple of years and have never used. I feel almost cleansed when I de-clutter.
TA, did send you a pm a couple of days ago, but I am thinking of you and the gift for the Hospice sounds lovely
Well have a good day all and Polly I hope you and DD are at the end of that awful virus, take care xx0 -
SM However much we think we are prepared to say goodbye to a loved one it does hit us that we really aren't . My late husband needed to be at peace and I thought I had come to terms with that for his sake . You will have the feeling part of your life has gone but in time the memories will keep your friend with you and you will smile at the times you shared .
I'm glad your mum had a good trip out and is surrounded by lovely flowers in the gloomy weather .
You seem to have perked your FIL up . I can picture him anticipating each lovingly prepared meal . It must brighten his day so much .
Candlelight Some gentle movement even sitting down will stop things seizing up until you know what's going on . Nothing extreme , just to keep things working until you have proper medical advice .
Thanks to everyone for your kind wishes . GP has been on holiday since we last saw him 3 wks ago so we'll see him Tuesday . Methotrexate is giving dd a kicking again this weekend . The consultant did mention adding something else in so that's something to bring up on Tuesday .
Welcome to Scarlet Ribbons you're welcome to join us if you wish .
Meanwhile AOT I've just noticed you've been reading here . I'm so pleased to see you around as I have been worried about you since you last posted on the Poor health thread . I will catch up there today . I hope you're ok .
