Hello all,
It is bitterly cold here today. We did a small shop this morning and I was glad to come home the wind was so cold.
It hasn't been a good couple of weeks, but I saw another GP on Wednesday and he thinks it is arthritis in my hips not polymyalgia, so he is booking me in for an xray and no more steroids. I have worked out what pain killers suit me and when to take them. Thankfully I am not in as much pain certainly not first thing in the morning.
Chris says the funeral went very well and the church was packed, although of course she didn't want to be there talking to people. I said it just showed how well Bob was thought of and what a lovely man he was. She now needs time to gather herself because she has lost the man she has spent all of her adult life with, and evidently the family did him proud with their readings and poems, I couldn't do that, I think they were very brave.
We have a quiet weekend planned, Himself will watch the Mexican GP tomorrow, at the moment I can just manage the supermarket holding on to the trolly, I am doing light exercises and lovely Lainey recommended a supplement which I am going to take. I know it won't work overnight but the reviews are very good for joint problems.
Lyn I hope you are well layered today what with the choir and the rugby and you have managed to keep warm.
SM I hope your Mum is going on OK, and I think it is lovely that you have resurrected a good relationship with your FIL, let us hope outside influences don't spoil it.
Have a good weekend all xx0 -
Well, I awoke to below freezing temperatures this morning and whilst it did heat up a little it's still below 5 degrees - brrr. I had planned some indoor things today but I ended up gardening. My dear friend, who was diagnosed with the brain tumour at the start of the year, passed away this morning. Whilst I'm desperately sad I'm also relieved as she had no quality of life for the last six months. For some reason I simply couldn't face being inside so in wrapped up and headed out to sweep up leaves and clear up things in the garden.
I'm now back inside and have made a baked chicken with bacon base and wild rice for dinner. It's from a new cookbook which I was given recently (Magnolia Table) and it smells delicious. The kitchen is also nice and cozy so I'll hang out here until hubby comes in. Dad had some problems with a new born calf earlier so hubby is helping as they try to get it to drink for the first time. It can be challenging but it's amazing how once they get the hang of it they never look back.
I'm looking forward to a night in, perhaps a bath and an extra hour in bed tonight, it's been a long week!0 -
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend SM brain cancer is a horrible disease x Enjoy that warm bath.
It’s been so cold here and very wet this afternoon, I was glad that I had been over to the yard earlier to see princess pony and was able to stay in the dry. We have also succumbed and put the heating on, don’t mind when your able to stay busy but sitting down to read I wanted to be cosy. I made some of MB’s mincemeat buns this morning, another one with a good smelling kitchen
Stay warm lovely people x0 -
Bitterly cold here today and the most beautiful frost this morning, we had to defrost the windscreen twice! The concert was in a picturesque village high up in the Cotswolds, a lovely church, very plain with only two stained glass windows but elegant beyond belief. The lovely Churchwarden had the heating full pelt and the building was as warm as a church can be which was a blessing, the concert went very well and HWK and I served coffee and cake to the audience as they arrived and the choir after the end and the choir ladies had made some beautiful cakes which were very well received . After the performance ended the musicians and the Churchwarden were given a bottle of wine each by way of thanks and the Churchwarden, having been outside to escort anyone who needed it back to the car park came back in saying 'It's snowing out there, big fat flakes' and it was too! First snow of our new life, such fun! Rugby was a cold affair BUT I put on thermal base layers, T shirt, Warm jumper, down coat, fleece scarf, hat and sheepskin gloves and a heavy fleece wrap on top of that and was fine! Poor DD1 set solid though and we had to help her home as her arthritis had made her hips very painful. Dear James had tea ready when we got in and we soon warmed up though. A good day and now home to a warm house and hot supper, lovely!
SM I'm so sorry to hear that your friend passed away but as you say so sensibly and more than that so understandingly her life had been a burden and sad though her loss is, for her it's a mercy, bless you both xxx.
Candlelight, look after both of you, take life as easy as you can, stay as warm and comfortable as you can and take the pain killers regularly. Wishing you cessation of discomfort as quickly as possible xxx.0 -
Cold day again but unlike yesterday it's wonderfully bright and sunny and still. We have the treat of lunch out in a local tea room so I don't have to cook and we have DD1 and |James coming for afternoon tea so I've made welsh cakes, Ginger Parkin and a large scone round on my bakestone this morning the whole kitchen smells of 'home'. I'm just about the put the vacuum cleaner through before we walk down for lunch, the washing is already done dried and sorted, the lounge tidies and bed made so I can have a nice walk after lunch and then come home for tea and company, just as a Sunday ought to be!0

Another beautiful day here although, again, it started below zero and didn't get beyond 6 degrees. I did manage to get my sheets on the line as there was a fair breeze and whilst they were not dry they were 75% of the way and they are now draped across the airer to finish off.
The cold snap has prompted a flurry of new arrivals at the farm. There were around 5 cows expected to calve this week. 2 new little ones arrived during the night with another 3 offspring born this morning including a rather unexpected set of twins so only one of the original 5 due now! Twins aren't terribly common and since things went high tech the cows are scanned during their pregnancies now but nobody picked up they this one had two on board. They all seem to be quite healthy which is the most important thing.
I have my first Christmas cake in the oven now so there is a good smell wafting toward me. I make one for my parents and one for one of hubby's friends. I'm also planning to make one for FIL although I won't mention it. He also reminded me he is fond of soda bread. I attempted it many years ago for him and not even the birds would touch itthat was in the days before I had a breadmaker so I may have another try soon.
Parts of my garden are looking a bit bare after my clear up yesterday. I think some pansies would brighten things up. They aren't my favourite plants but chrysanthemums seem to be in short supply round here so the pansies are my fall back. I recorded the last episode of Gardeners World last week so I could watch it on a cold autumn night - it always feel very wintery once the series ends!
Off to decorate a Halloween cake for the office now - chocolate sponge with vanilla buttercream frosting - I just need to make it look appropriately spooky now:)0 -
I can tell you all now, I couldn't say anything until after today as DD1 wanted to tell her sister before it was made public, she and James got engaged while they were away on the German school trip earlier this week. They are so well suited, so totally in love and so happy as is Mumsie! it's wonderful and we are really blessed xxx.0
