  • Oh your poor mum SM . Families are great when they work but not so when someone makes things harder . In a situation like your mums she's in a situation she had no control over and needs care and kindness . You seem to be landed with the lot and apart from that the lack of contact with your mum is unkind at a time like this .
Whatever happens on Wednesday I hope the hospital can make your mum aware she needs to rest and recover rather than trying to do all she's used to doing . Easier said than done when she's used to mucking in and getting on with things . I have farm owning friends just a couple of miles from here and their hours are long and hard . The nights are pulling in and the weather cooling here although I'm glad you saw the sun today . Does your mum have any sort of hobby assuming she's had time ? Something gentle and distracting could pass some of the time for her and she'd still feel she was doing something .
Meanwhile look after yourself as much as you can . We will all have you both in mind on Wednesday and I will light the magic lavender candle .

  • Afternoon, altogether a much better day here weather wise, the rain has finally stopped and it's been slightly warmer today so much more comfortable. We've had a run into the city and collected some of HWK's tools DD1 and also been food shopping so the cupboards aren't sparse any longer. I've re-discovered Morrisons and am impressed at both the quality and prices. We were heading for Lidl there was some sort of traffic problem and we shot into Morrisons car park rather than sit in a queue, good stuff.

We've been moving the water butt in the garden this afternoon to make a space for the woodstore that arrives next week, then we'll find a source of logs to go in it, wood wombling will commence from now on!!

It's lovely to see the leaves changing colour, noticeable change every day and there is a lovely old silver birch directly in line with the upstairs windows by the brook that is gradually turning to gold, all frothy branches like a waterfall of colour, fantastic.

It all started off quite misty and gloomy here but the sun soon broke through and it’s been a smashing day weather wise. It’s so mild and the temperature in my car read 20 degrees driving home from the yard an hour ago!
Lulu was a good girl for her Mum, we just did some inhand work so working from the ground but she listens to me now and almost knows what I’m going to do before I do :rotfl: tbh I did worry that I could never love another horse like my lovely Bill but she is a real sweetheart and I love her to bits.
Sorry that things are so rough for your Mum SM hopefully the visit to her hairdresser will lift her spirits a tad.

Right, supper is calling, love to all x

Lainey I remember you had quite a wait for the lovely Lu . I reckon that was dear Bill waiting for the right one to send to fill the Bill shaped hole .

Lyn Many years ago I started shopping in Morrisons . They were the only shop in this area selling Organic foods such as wholemeal pasta etc . They also stocked a wide range of foods for allergies and food intolerence which both younger daughters needed . Those products were very expensive in the health store and much cheaper in Morries .
The store was eventually replaced by Waitrose but years later Morries returned on a much larger site . They didn't seem as good but recently did a big change to compete with the major supermarkets and are now up near the top . They now stock pretty well everything I buy and I love the wonky veg , paper bags rather than plastic and the hard to get items they stock . I know you prefer to cook from scratch but I keep some items in the freezer readymade . The individual quiches from the deli section have saved us here when we've been ill and exhausted . I don't use the microwave often but you can put them in on a plate and have a meal within 4 mins . I just do some veg or salad with them , hardly any effort and little washing up .
They also have a wide range of vegetarian foods which pleases dd .
If you look them up they are a company with good ethics unlike those who have their suppliers over a barrel lucky to get any return for their hard work .

I hope you're beginning to feel a little better Candlelight candle is lit x

Positive thoughts for tomorrow .Sm Hoping all goes well .

  • Good afternoon, much better weather today and decidedly warmer. We went for coffee with one of Nell's choral society colleagues who invited us round and she has an Aga, we sat in the kitchen and were blissfully warm, I want one!!! it was lovely and so is she. We went to the allotment and cut a few bunches of grapes to take with us and HWK has harvested the rest this afternoon and I will stew them, put them through the jelly bag overnight and make grape jelly tomorrow which will go into stews and casseroles through the winter, it gives a real 'lift' to the sauce/gravy. The lovely tabby cat next door let me stroke him again today, purred too which was lovely.

HWK has been to the allotment again this afternoon and lifted a small patch of 'ground cover plants' and the soil underneath looks fantastic. Next year should give us a better crop than we ever managed in Hampshire and it turns out that what I thought was a cherry tree is in fact an apricot that has fruited so it will stay and we'll hope for fruit next summer. Love apricot jam.

I went to the charity shop this afternoon and found my bus friend from last week and gave her my mobile number so we can do coffee one day soon so something else to look forward to, life is beginning to sort itself out nicely, we're so very lucky xxx.

Lyn Are you finding it much colder where you are now, compared to Hampshire?

You sound so happy and content Lyn everything seems so you and now a friend to meet and chat with too . I remember when your dog walking friend moved before you and you missed her it looks as though Docky has sent you a friend just as Bill did for Lainey .

Ivyleaf it's very cold here in the NW . I had the long , hevy Craghopper coat on when out yesterday and that's usually for winter . I don't think being ill has helped but the neighbours are muffling up over the last few days when dog walking and I use them as a guide . THe only place I felt a bit too warm yesterday was in m&s but it's always hot in there . It was freezing when we were in the Drs and has been for a while due to NHS infection control to try to reduce spreading the bugs , A wise move in my opinion .

Hoping Candlelight is feeling a bit better today and Himself is ok .

Thoughts today are with SM and her mum and of course Chris and her loved ones .

  • Some days it is Ivyleaf but today has been much warmer than it was for the last few. It's going to be wetter here and DD1 has always said it's colder overall than the deep south of Hampshire but we've good winter gear to wear and we'll get used to it.

Docky most certainly has had a paw in this, our coffee friend is proposing to adopt a rescue Labrador and I'm hoping that when she is away (she is often away for a couple of days) we might be able to Labrador sit, that would be nice. We'll have to wait and see but she lost an old lab 18 months ago and is just to the point of having decided to get another one!
  • Just a quick update as I'm off for a much needed shower (been at the gym). The news today wasn't quite what we expected , mum will require further surgery next week as the cells weren't all caught last time. This will delay the radiotherapy (which may now be up to 6 weeks worth) until at least mid November. So I think mum and I were both caught on the hop but we will simply need to deal with it.

My hubby has taken it very badly though - I think a combination of just having lost his mum to cancer and the fact that he is actually closer to my mum than he was to his own. At least my father seems to be relatively calm tonight - for now at least.

  • SM, try not to worry. A friend I worked with who had breast cancer not longer after myself, had to have 2 further ops. the reason was that she had very small breasts and it was difficult for them to obtain the right amount of tissue each time.

Me, on the other hand, had lots, and they managed to get everything first time.

    Thinking of you all xx
