  • Good morning,

A beautiful morning here but my goodness it s cold and a small amout f condensation on sitting room windows.

Himself was up before 6 am in order to watch the Japan GP, so he will need a nap shortly!!

I am going to make leek and potato soup later, one of my favourite soups, that will be for lunch, and I made shepherd's pie yesterday so we will have that this evening with green beans and carrots. I have a small gammon joint in the bottom of the freezer so want to get that out to cook for tomorrow. I am trying to be very good and use some of the food in the freezer instead of adding to it.

The curtains I ordered should have been delivered yesterday, needless to say they didn't arrive. They are supposed to be delivered by Royal Mail, according to the tracking info, I can't imagine they will be delivered today.

TA, if you are reading, it is very cold outside, stay warm with your lovely husband and give him a gentle hug from us all. I can't imagine you sleep too well in a reclining chair but at least you can stretch out. Look after yourself.

SM I hope the baking went down well with your Mum's visitors, and I hope she is in good spirits. Will she have her stitches out later this week, I think mine were in about 10days?

Take care all, and hope you have a pleasant day xx
  • We've had a lovely day, DD1 and James came over for lunch and then James and HWK got working to move phones to different positions and plumb in the small TV to the aerial in the conservatory once they'd got the wiring sorted out. Dd and I went for a walk through the village and round the lake in the sunshine which was really nice and found a free outdoor gym which we hadn't found before, magic! Lunch was delicious and they went to meet James boys at the local church where mum takes them for the afternoon family service every week and came back to us for a cuppa and cake, they've just left and I'm still smiling, they're good company.

Hugs all round and a special very gossamer gentle one for Bob, TA love and hugs xxx
  • Hello all,
    ,

Overcast here today, but we did pop out for a few things, I noticed the eggs I had were well past their sell by date so restocked those just in case I feel the urge to bake this week.

We have just had the last of the leek and potato soup I made at the weekend, and have home made shepherds pie tonight. We were going to have it yesterday but neither of us were very hungry. Himself and the cat are asleep on the sofa and I have just cleaned the top of the cooker.

Lyn you must have had a lovely day yesterday by the sound of it, this move seems to have made your life absolutely complete now.

The new curtains arrived this morning for the sitting room, they will have to wait until Himself is having a good day, but hopefully they will be easy. They are ring top the same as the others, so not too much fiddling around with them but they are thicker, and hopefully will stop any draughts.

I am going to put the garden furniture to bed this week, I understand Wednesday should be a good day weather wise and I have 80 grape hyacinth bulbs to plant in a big trough, and then stand guard to stop the squirrell digging them out!!

Sending love to TA and her lovely Bob, to SMs Mum, hopefully recovering well and to Polly and hoping Lainey's knee is now improving. xx
  • Oh my, we've just taken out the trunk and roots of the 'wasp tree' by the back door and relocated an obelisk that had parted company with it's honeysuckle plant as the tree grew. The honeysuckle is now threaded around the obelisk and looks much happier. We've also given the climbing roses on the back fence a really good 'dead wooding' and have tied one of them back into it's original fan shape on the fence it will have much more light and growing space next year. HWK taking 5 as he's shattered, bless him.

He's raring to go on the wallpapering for the pickles room too, I think he's beginning to feel this is home, rather than feeling like he's left home behind. He'll get here, I'm here already xxx.

I wonder if I can join you please? As some will know from the daily thread I am on oral chemo "until it stops working" so I am sometimes not able to post but love to read along. Have a confession though , what are T words please?
Mrs LW I read that you visited Batsford recently, I live about 4 miles from it and it certainly is a gorgeous spot. The Birds of Prey centre next door is also worth a visit. Right, I have promised myself I will do one job today as my energy levels are better and then reward myself with a drink at the village coffee morning.
  • Hello Poppy, of course you can join us, it will be a great pleasure to have you along love. Batsford is such a lovely place isn't it? we had a golden day to walk in and the colours on the trees were just beautiful. The restaurant is a bit of OK too isn't it? not to mention driving up from our neck of the woods through all that glorious countryside. We are truly blessed in having found this house in our village in such a lovely county as Gloucestershire, closer to all the family and full of lovely places to visit. I love Westonbirt and Slimbridge and a place in the Forest called Wenchford where there is a gravel bottomed stream for paddling in and huge shady trees to sit under and even a little tea rooms and public loos close by. Heaven on Earth!

My dear SIL's father is in exactly the same position health wise as you are my dear, he was diagnosed with mouth cancer some years ago and has had a couple of major reconstructions and is now waiting, as are you, for treatment to be less effective. The family are packing as much time into the grandchildren as is possible to do and building memories for all of them, particularly SIL's mum, we've taken a 'family back seat' because they need the kids more than we do now and hope that FIL has more years of health ahead to share with them all. Chin up poppet, we're here for good and dark days, just chat, it's nice and informal and extended 'family' here xxx.
  • Hello all,

Well an absolutely glorious day, bedding out having a good blow, the plumber has been to look at the sink unit and he will fit new one and taps on the 19th of this month.

Poppy you are more than welcome. We are a small but happy band on here and "T" means tough, we try not to mention that word. I think we assume that most of us, at some time, have a tough time but we carry on regardless. We are always happy to see a new friend, and believe me, we are friends here. Several of our virtual friends are having a difficult time at the moment, but we are here to listen and help if possible.

I seem to have another water infection so need bloods doing tomorrow to see what is lurking oh joy of joys.

Himself has been out in the front garden cutting the hedge and hacking away at an enormous potentilla (I think). Of all the things that died during the drought and this bush just flourished to the point where I could hardly see out of the window (slight exaggeration but you know what I mean). We are all tidy now, I was going to help him but the pain in my back is quite intense so just did the bed linen and re-made the bed.

No further news from TA so sending our love and hugs to all the family and hope dear Bob is as comfortable as possible. xx

Have just noticed a post from TA on the daily thread. They are just beginning week 4 in the hospice, everything is so much more of an effort for Bob and the family can see a decline each day now.

Their DD has set up a Just Giving Page on Facebook in aid of the Monster Halloween Dash for the Hospice and they have been pledged over £400 already, that is wonderful.

"Margot", their second granddaughter has auditioned again successfullyfor pantomime this year, I can see she will be on TV eventually. They must all be so proud xx

Just dropped in to say welcome to Poppy. You'll find lots of very caring, thoughtful people here. It's a nice place to come when life is a bit
of a rollercoaster and you need some hugs or when things
are a bit brighter and you have something nice to share.

    Thinking of the TA's.

Mum is due back to hospital on 15th to have the stitches out and talk about her treatment so I should have some news then. Trying to organise work so I can go with her. Think it's good to have someone else along to listen and take it all in.

  • We've been offered an allotment.....went to see it just after lunch and straight down to the council offices to pay the years rental! Woohoo!!! It's got a nice little shed on already with the most amazing grape vine trained long the back and side of it, covered in perfectly ripe dark purple grapes, going to make some jelly, a plum tree, a damson tree, an established asparagus bed, some globe artichokes, a rosemary bush and the rest is rambling strawberry plants, and the odd patch of crops gone to seed. There are some old raspberry canes on one boundary and a row of old gnarled currant bushes which we'll grub out and replace and the strawberry riot will have to be cleared too but the soil is good and the plots around well tended and with really good standing crops, I now have carrot envy! A water tap on the corner of the next plot over so we're really well set up. Nice sheltered position too not too close to the entrance but well away from opportunist pickers. HWK very happy therefore I am very happy too!
